1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I think its fun thinking of what color you might get. With my girl, she came with green eyes that shockingly liked in her that I might try finding green-blue eyes for her now when it comes time to get glass eyes. Tho I do understand that an options to choose would be nice, such as choosing eyes the company sells and maybe getting a small discount on them for buying a doll. I do find it odd they don't do this but have multiple option parts.

    2. I htink it is nice that thye do not come all "staring" out of the box, but my last few have come with eyes I immediately changed. Until they home, and with the desired wig, how could you pick the eyes?!

    3. I consider those eyes to be freebies that companies throw in as a convenient courtesy. For me, they're placeholders that make the face look cohesive upon arrival, and aren't really intended for long term use. I prefer glass eyes to acrylics anyway, and I'd want to choose my own eyes from different dealers.

    4. I think at one stage, I did request eye colour in the notes when I bought from some doll companies, AKA Felix doll, and fairyland. Felix doll did comply with my request, and I thought it was really nice of them. Fairyland did so (or maybe it's a coincidence) with my first orders, but then subsequent orders less so and now, I don't even bother because I have so many at home with colours I do prefer.
I think I do wonder how they choose the random eyes. I guess if you write a suggestion, maybe they would? But yeah, it's much nicer when the company throws in a pair or random eyes rather than sending you an eyeless doll, then that annoys me.

    5. Yeah that kinda confused me too why dont they have an option to pick from it or have it where you can buy from the company i think that might be easyer too because you can pick out everything in one go instead of going on a man hunt on ebay and doll sites @w@;

    6. --this. Not one of my kids is still wearing the eyes s/he came with. In fact, the one time I did specifically request an eye color (and Medusa at BlueBlood was sweet enough to include them for free, along with the random eyes!) I ended up changing them anyway. Randomly included eyes just go into the collection box for future use.

I'd say, think of them as a free gift along with your doll, not part of it. =)

    7. i think they should give an option to choose since i AM paying a very high price for the doll i agree with you but some companies do allow the option to choose the color

    8. Well, I've seen a lot of dolls that come with FREE EYES in a random color, and I am perfectly OK with that. If they're not the color or style or whatever that I want for that doll, then I am free to buy whatever eyes I want...

    9. It doesn't bother me at all to be honest, I will eventually have a use for all eye colours, if the doll I've ordered doesn't come with the eyes I hoped for, I'll buy them, no big deal really =3

    10. Some places will give you the eye color you request. I know that Dollmore.net will put in the eye color of your choice, but only if you request it in the comments box at the time of ordering. at least, that's what their website says, and that is what I ordered - my doll hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know if she will arrive with the eyes I requested. If you don't make a comment about your eye color of choice on Dollmore, the eyes will be random. Not sure about any other companies. DenverDoll is very very helpful and I think they would do this for you as well if you contacted them about it, just based on how helpful and nice they are (I spoke to them on the phone). I do agree, though, that there should be an option, like a drop-down menu, to choose a standard eye color to be installed in the doll.

    11. I love surprises like random eye color and such. Than again, I'm the kind of person who would rather buy a grab bag of eyes/wigs than pick them out. I love random chance. Plus, admittedly, I've had horrible luck every time I pick things out myself. @.@ Only -one- of my purposefully chosen wigs has worked out positively, whereas the grab bag I got worked out AWESOME.

Plus, I rarely know what eye color a doll needs until I see them and hold them and check them out. Heck, most of my dolls have ended up with colors I never imagined! And, yeah, a couple of them have their default eyes in. Heck, I had a whole little chain reaction of sharing default eyes to get my dolls perfect. XD

    12. I do agree. We pay so much for this doll, and I feel like we should have some choice of eye color. I am grateful to get any eyes at all, but I would like an option. They have us choose everything else, so I should get to choose the eyes I get with my doll. That's all.

    13. I've said it before in this thread and I will say it again: there is a safe, simple and foolproof way to choose the eyes you get with your doll. Buy the exact eyes you want for your doll. Most of the doll companies are not in the eye business, they are in the doll business. It does not hurt to put in the comments as you are ordering 'please include X color eyes if possible, thank you', but unless there is an option for choosing specific eye color, it's the owner's responsibility to customize the doll to their likes, not the doll company's.

I personally don't use most if not all of the eyes that come to me with a doll, and I would not want my doll order to be held up because the eyes I wanted in Special Snowflake Purple weren't in stock when my doll was ready to ship. :daisy

    14. Lunarbreeze: I totally agree with you and others on here that the choice of eye color is a small and inexpensive way to please the customer. I hate that I cannot pick the eyecolor when I order a doll. I think it is ridiculous compared to the huge amount of funds that go out to adopt a BJD. These companies can be much more flexible and allow the customer to pick eye color. There are choices with skin tone and face ups that have fees attached to it and those are choices we can make. Why not eye color as well? I absolutely think that the "random" eyes thing should be abolished. Maybe one day these companies will evolve into giving one more choices.

    15. I would push my luck and go with the random-eyes. since in any case if I really wanted a specific kind of eyes I'd probably get them from a shop exclusively specialized in eyes, rather than dolls....and in the end I like to risk and enjoy the feeling of expectancy that would come with a casual choice! XD

    16. I think getting random eyes is fun :) It's exciting to see open your doll and see what color the company chose! Even though they are acrylic eyes, it's a nice gesture from the company.

    17. I never used any single pair of the eyes I got with a doll. Those eyes are not great quality, and I prefer it being just right about my dolls. I don't think some $1 eyes will suit them anyway, - as I said, I havent seen not a single pair of them looking good, in life or on pictures.
It is funny how people complain about such things - "oh my god, why I cant choose the color myself??" Well, why can you? Guys makes dolls and sell dolls, if you want eyes you choose a company who make and sell eyes, and buy it from there. I guess there shouldn't be no "free eyes" or "free wig" thing at all - then all these ridiculous complaining will stop. Specially smth like "oh, bjd cost so much, why cant I get smth what I want with it?" Because this is the cost of a bjd, not bjd with eyes, wig, or whatever. No one pushed you to buy bjd, your own choice. So why all the whimping? Get a Barbie then, it comes even with clothes in the box.
I can't imagine to go to cosmetic or clothes shop or whenever and say - oh, this cream is so expensive, I want you to give me that mascara as a gift!! No, I don't want samples, I want a mascara!! Or - this table cost soooo much, you must give those chairs for free! And the lamp!
      Seriously?

    18. Because doll companies do cast dolls and paint face-ups, but they don't produce the eyes that come with the doll. And since doll companies order eyes from another dealer, there's a great risk your order will be delayed when the eye colour you wanted is no longer in stock. Not giving the option to choose is making sure the customer gets the doll he/she ordered in time.

The past few posts I've heard the argument that because these dolls are expensive, we should be allowed to choose which eyes we want with our dolls. You know what, I'd like to get a red car to come with the house I'm buying, because it would look great on the drive... doesn't mean I'm going to get one.

    19. I don't take issue with random eye color. This is the way of the doll hobby. Every company that I've ordered from or seen offers random color so I've come to just expect a surprise. Someone said Volks allows color pick but I can't afford Volks. lol

Now, one time I have asked for a specific color. I sent a really nice email asking if I could have the color I wanted. I got a nice reply thanking me for my business and stating they'd provide the color I requested. Never hurts to ask, right? And I got what I wanted.

I look at it as the "random eye color eyes" as starting eyes, not meant for the long run. Over time I have replaced all the eyes in all my dolls (except my Iraki because he's so new). I think it's just part of the hobby. Plus, random color helps me keep a wide variety of eyes so if I want to change the color of my doll's eyes, I can easily!

    20. This. Totally.
