1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I personally do not mind. This one aspect of firsthand BJD acquisition that remains a surprise is, to me, rather a nice touch. I like being surprised by the eye color and material my BJD is sent with. However, BJD producers are masters of their own domain; and eye creators are the master of theirs. Essentially, what I'm saying is that those who specialize in the production of eyes tend to possess a greater proclivity for producing consistently high-quality eyes than a company who focuses primarily on BJD production. So, as Wendalynne so aptly put it, I'd end up simply storing the eyes away until I found a suitable doll. However, I do think that the ability to select your own BJD eyes with your BJD purchase should be allowed.

    2. Seeing as they're nice add-ons to your purchase, I don't think that the company should have to give you the right to choose what colour they should be, unless they say that if you ask they'll give. Then it's just really annoying if you make a request and they don't fulfill it.

    3. I don't think it would be that difficult for a company to have a few consistent colors in stock (brown, blue, green? Whatever) and let the buyer choose. And if the element of surprise is *that* important, how about a "surprise" option too? It's not rocket science. They somehow manage to handle other variables like body type and face sculpt.

    4. The product page clearly states that eyes will be random. This stipulation is built into the price for various reasons and, thus, costs less than if the company allowed you to choose specific eye colors. Let's compare how giving random eyes is different from specific eyes for a BJD company:

      Random Eyes
-no need to keep a specific stock on hand
-no need to sort through eye colors - employee grabs a pair of eyes from the eye box and it's done

      Specific Eyes
-need to have employee keep an eye on stock and order specific colors when they run out (employee time costs money)
-need to have a check in place to make sure that the requested eye color was put in the package - extra step before shipping
-need to deal with complaints from people who, by error, did not get the color eyes they wanted and ship out the correct eyes, at company's cost, to those people (after all, they were promised the specific color and didn't get it); this takes customer service time away from bigger problems, like damaged dolls or lost packages, as well as adds on an extra expense for the company
-need to charge extra to cover all of the above and, inevitably, have complaints from people who don't want to pay for these eyes because they already have eyes or because they want to buy eyes elsewhere

Why would a company want all the hassle? You (general) will end up paying for this service, so how is it different from just buying your own pair of eyes separate from the doll? Lots of companies even have an eye section where you can buy the exact eyes you want, provided they are in stock.

Also, and this has been said so many times already, many companies will be happy to accommodate your request for a specific color if you put it in the comments section when you place the order. All you have to do is ask :).

    5. i hate it, if i'm spending $500+ dollars on a doll the least they can do is tell me exactly what color i will be getting

i dont want to buy separate eyes in the color i want....only to find it came with those ones anyway, i remember buying my DoD tahlia and requested the purple in the preview pics, only to be told i could get that only if i paid for another pair of eyes

    6. Probably gonna sound like a moron hear but....Would Junkyspot be also able to do that request?

I mean I don't wanna hassle Emory (really he's just plain awesome and I don't wanna stress him out) but if it's not the case then I don't really mind random eyes.

Better then not to have eyes.

    7. Arashi Uchiha, I never bought from Junkyspot, but it doesn't hurt to ask. There were a few instances when I requested that the company send me specific color eyes (and, in a few cases, even specific size!) and every time the company sent me what I want.

At the end of the day, companies want to please customers, and if they have the color you want in stock, chances are that they'll include it with your doll, unless it's a funky color that they don't stock .

    8. I don't really mind. I mean, it is like a free little gift, and a surprise is always fun. Sure, if I didn't get an eye colour that I liked, I would be sad, but then I can always buy more. To me, it seems a little silly to fret over it, though I can understand why some people would.

    9. I just really want the gold eyes that sometimes comes with RS dolls but I won't be upset if she doesn't come with them. That just means I'll save up and get her the ones I want if I don't like her 'random' eyes.

    10. I understand why they do it and that it's based on stock but it would be nice to at least be able to put a request in. Even if they can't give you the eye colour you wanted, they could at least get it as close as possible.

Then again, I understand that it's a freebie, they don't have to send them and so even if the eyes were hideous, I'd be disappointed that I hadn't been luckier, but I'd still be grateful.

    11. There's too many places that you can find eyes in gorgeous colors at good prices..... you can start looking on doll company's sites, get them second-hand, or find shops on etsy or ebay that sell them cheap (I've found many that I liked) if you REALLY are particular about the color you want.

I haven't owned any dolls yet, my first is on his way, and I'm about to order my second, but I don't really mind that they come with random colors. I was thinking of choosing a color, but I could never really decide, and well the way I look at it is like having a child that was born with blue eyes when you expected brown. It's not what you wanted, but it gives it it's OWN unique quality having a color eyes you didn't pick, and becomes part of who he/she is.
But since it IS a doll and not a human being, and I decide I don't like them, they're seriously not hard or too much of a bother to replace.
Besides, most people who have the money to invest in a BJD in the first place (ESPECIALLY fullsets) should have just a little bit of cash laying around to invest in some eyes that are only around $6-$20 in most cases.
If you don't, you can save up for it.

I understand your point kind of, but as others said... it's free.
also, I guess I'm not alone in being excited about the surprise I see XD

    12. I don't mind random eye color; mostly because I understand the logistics required to provide for color choice. If I want a specific eye color I go ahead and order exactly what I want.

I just ordered a doll I specifically wanted to have dark eyes; so I ordered a pair to be shipped with her. Worst case is that I have an extra pair of the same color eyes.

The extra eyes are saved for future purchases or given to my girls for their dolls.

    13. I agree. For the price you are paying you should get to pick eye color or at least know what eye color you will be getting.

    14. I guess a lot of people don't understand that you're paying that price FOR THE DOLL. Some companies don't even give free eyes at all!!! I believe with Soom you don't get eyes unless you buy them with the doll.

You're not paying for the eyes, they're just throwing in a pair so you won't get a creepy, eyeless doll. I appreciate the free eyes a lot, but mostly because free eyes means free eye putty, and I just buy fancy glass or urethane eyes for my dolls (The free eyes are almost always cheap acryllics).

    15. I know soom, limhwa and supia don't send eyes.
supia offers you to pay for a random wig and random eyes. now that's cheap! xD

but the random plastic eyes that is announced on the doll's page are indeed free. they take cheap one so it won't make them lose that much money or higher the total price.

    16. I don't take offense to random eyes. I doubt that I'll be using their eyes in the end as I do a lot of trial and error color buying.

Back in the day when Luts was offering delf they also offered random glass eyes. I asked for grey and I got it. If you ask nicely and they have the color you might get it. It's nice of them to offer any way because they don't have to in the end.

    17. Yeah, man. I bought a Soom Goss, but I didn't get his eyes with him (because I wanted to get some urethane eyes of my own). The only thing I'm bummed about with the lack of free eyes is that I have to buy eye putty, or take some from my other doll. >_> At least Iplehouse gives you GOBS AND GOBS of eyeputty!

    18. I know Soom doesn't, unless it's a Basic I believe, and Angel-Studio doesn't. I try to have extras on hand. Back when I got my first, and Luts was giving out glass eyes, I asked and got light blue glass. Mike's since been switched to another pair and someone is using his eyes, I think, but they're still here.

    19. true that!
I think I shared the putty of 2 dolls into 4 and I still had some spare! so that's nice :D

    20. It doesn't bother me. The eyes are free. But some times you can request what color eyes you wan't. And they will often try their best!

plus, if you don't get the color you wan't. When you buy the pair you do, you have a free extra set!
