1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

1. For a new doll owner who has nothing, yes the pair of eyes that might come with the doll (again not all companies offer random eyes) is essential if you were not planning on buying a new one soon.

However I have been in the hobby long enough, I have more than enough eyes sitting in a big box so it does not really matter. In fact, like others have mentioned, I rather not get a pair if the eyes are acrylic.

I started with Acrylic 5 years ago too with my first doll. They are NOT bad especially when compared to nothing. However, they are not realistic looking and photograph not great. I moved from Acrylic to silicone (bought many of those) and on to glass and resin.

From my experience, it is very difficult to know what color eyes will really look good in your doll until you actual have the face up and wigs on. I have many dolls that end up with UNPLANNED COLOR eyes.

Besides, even when the company says Random Eyes - usually they are Blue, Green or Brown. The basic eye colors. If you want a particular one from the three basic colors then by all mean let them know I know in many cases, companies do ship that color to you if you asked

2. I'm a little confused now Keeper... in your previous post you called it ridiculous to not get the colour you want (or that's how it reads anyway) and now you're saying it's selfish to expect it?

3. Just remember, the costumer is always right. Some save for years to get a bjd, so "they should have enough money" doesn't apply to everyone. Also, consider time. I waited 3 weeks for an outfit from LW. I think it isn't ridiculous to feel this way at all.

4. Actually I really beg to differ with the whole 'the customer is always right' mentality. At no point do the companies say they will give a customer the eyes they specifically ask for, many will try to do so but they're under no obligation to do so and a customer kicking off about it wont change the logistics of the situation, especially when they're demanding something that wasn't offered.

5. Eh? No, I was quoting the person I was replying to. Sorry for the confusion. No, I think it's a given that you should choose specific eyes.

6. Perhaps it would be best to actually quote what you're responding too in that case to save confusion in the future as it's hard to know exactly who or what you're responding too otherwise.

7. I have both acrylics and glass eyes. The acrylics I have are a lot better looking than most I've seen. Little to no pixelation, and amazing detail. They come out even better in photos, so for me, as long as they are quality, it doesn't matter what they're made of. ;)

8. Perhaps it would be best to actually quote what you're responding too in that case to save confusion in the future as it's hard to know exactly who or what you're responding too otherwise.

^ That is quoting dear, see the difference in font?

9. Click on Reply with Quote, then you will get the correct way to Quote other people

10. Actually dear, as Anavel says there's a button that formats the quote so it's obvious because simply italicizing the text isn't particularly obvious at all. Failing that putting the text in

(minus the space) tags has the same effect. :daisy

11. Now I feel dumb. Still a newbie here I guess. XD Thanks. :)

12. The one thing that bothers me about this hobby is the attitude of entitlement shared by some. "The customer is always right," doesn't apply when the customer doesn't understand the culture he or she is buying from. This is an Asian hobby-- rules of Asian culture thereby apply. First and foremost-- don't be rude, and don't show your feelings of self-entitlement.

Be happy that the doll company is giving you eyes as a GIFT, a small token or thank you for doing business with them. And if you don't like the gift, do the polite thing-- sell them, give them away or toss them.

Oh, and it must be summer, because I see daisies!

13. This. Exactly this. The companies don't HAVE to give you eyes (in some cases, even wigs) for free with your doll. What you pay, unless it's a full-set (and there, you get exactly the eyes you paid for), is the blank doll - no extras added. Even free of charge seem-sanding is a bonus and not something you're entitled to.

Besides, the doll-companies I've ordered from, so far, all were really cooperative and tried to give me the eye colour I politely asked for. The blue ones I asked for and got with my first doll even were so nice that I haven't changed them since. They're perfect.

(Random thought: You don't exactly get to choose your kid's eye-colour, either - they also come with "random eye colour", don't they?)

14. Well, while the costumer may always be right, the customer is frequently entitled, brattish and as far from right as it's possible to be. At absolutely no point during the purchase process is the company obliged to give you anything whatsoever outside of what is expressed as included on the sales page. If that (as they mostly do) says explicitly that you will get random eyes, that's what you're going to get and if you don't like that, don't purchase from that company in question. It's a pretty simple premise really, voting with your feet.

The logical arguments as to why this thread's opening gambit is a hotbed of entitlement have been laid out multiple times, I'm honestly amazed the thing is still open since, as ever, it's really a non-issue that people are just circling around endlessly now.

15. Isn't it the whole life goes like that?))

customers are humans, humans are not always right, therefor, customers are not always right.

16. I admit, this thought has crossed my mind when putting out this amount of money on a doll.

But, it is the customizing that makes these dolls so special to me. There are hundreds of eye variations to choose from. Maybe the doll manufacturers think the eyes will be something likely to be changed/picked out from places that specialize in offering all those choices. Even the placement, which has so much to do with the expression of the doll, as well as pupil size...well, we all know all the factors that go into giving just the right expression/soul to our doll. Eyes are a very important and personal detail in the creation of the persona of a doll.

I have found it a little fun to have the eyes be a surprise. Even if it means sometimes a bit disappointing. But, just another thing to swap and trade about with each other,,,which is a big part of the fun of being a bjd collector.

17. If the eyes are free, why complain about what colour they are? ._. You say they're only $6 so it shouldn't make much of a difference? If you think that, why not just buy some $6 eyes with your doll? Then your doll comes with two pairs of eyes, s'what I did. Simple, right?

18. They're not entitled to give you anything for free, you should be thankful for any extras that you get, not complain about what you don't. I mean well done for saving so much money! But that's what they're priced at, what did you expect? What do you want, a medal?

19. I always thought it was weird that we couldn't chose our eyes too..but eh *shrug* It doesn't really bother me too much.

I like to hoard eyes anyway. I swap em around my dolls every so often just for grins.

20. The random eyes don't bother me at all. As several others have said, I'm thankful to have eyes come with the doll at all. If there's a specific color I want, then why not request it? The worst that can happen is you get a different color and have to get new eyes, which usually happens anyway.
