I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I agree completely. Especially when the pictures of the doll you're ordering has eyes that fit perfectly, but there's no guarantee you'll get ones even remotely the same color! I would rather be able to choose than to get a pair that I'll never use.

    2. Well, I dont care about random eyes, but I do care about random=brown.
I agree with people who said it would be better if the company gives you a list of in-stock eyes and let you choose.

    3. i dont really mind it unless they give me a colour that doesnt suit his "character"
I might add hints into the "request" section when placing an order and hope they catch it xD

    4. wow... I really cannot believe this thread is still going... 19 pages devoted to a pair of < $5.00 acrylic eyes. I am pretty sure the inventor of the acrylic eyes would be so proud.

why random eye usually does not bother hobbyists? because most of us (as beginner with their first doll) move away from that within weeks from receiving the doll.... For me, within seconds. Also in order for the doll to be my doll, eyes must match the face up and the doll personality and wig etc; unless the person packing my doll has the same eyes as mine, does not really matter if they give me a pair of awesome urethane eyes as random eyes, I hardly think that the doll will be perfect since that is NOT my vision. Some dolls just look better with weird colors -

Current fetish is DS Eyes. They photograph so beautifully

    5. I don't mind, I like the surprise! And if they don't work for that doll in particular they'll always work for another, and they're free so I can't complain

    6. I got into this thinking I was going to buy lots of different eyes and wigs anyway,so the random eyes thing doesn't really bother me. When I order a doll I always order a backup pair of eyes in case I don't like the ones they send me. I didn't like the eyes that came with my RS Lan,but the default eyes that came with my Soso were just perfect. Sometimes you get a nice surprise like that.

    7. Well since I know they're gonna be a random color when I buy the doll, it doesn't upset me at all. Sometimes its a fun little temporary surprise for me. And in the end, I'm going to change the eyes to glass ones anyway.

    8. I don't think it bothers me really because they could just NOT give you eyes at all. From personal experience I actually liked the random eyes I received with my original Delf purchase many years ago. =)

    9. I think it'd be nice if it was an option but I agree with a lot of the previous posts, it's nice that they even send us eyes to begin with. My doll came with really creepy orange eyes and the other one really creepy clear eyes which I will be changing soon but it's better than having him sit there with no eyes while I decide what color would look best on him [:

    10. Well for me it's not too big of a deal. Though apparently when RS/BBB says random eyes, they mean random yellow eyes lol. Though for my AoD girl she had random glass eyes and it was a nice surprise. I had wanted her to look like Alice in Wonderland as she did in her listing. But she came with random eyes and a random wig. And I liked them. Idk kind of makes them more realistic in my opinion. I mean when you have a kid they come out with w/e eye color/hair color they come out with (for now lol). But I admit for certain characters that you might be creating, you want a certain color or type. When I got my drow girl I asked RS to give her red eyes if possible. They sent me a pair marked as a gift. But they were pupiless so no go, but the thought was nice. Also, acrylic doesn't measure up to glass in my opinion so I ended up replacing them anyway.

So to sum it up. If they're random acrylic...it's w/e b/c I'm gonna replace them anyway. But they're a nice little placeholder until then.

    11. I kind of like the random eyes :u it's a bit of a surprise you know? (i enjoy surprises) and if the eyes aren't what I want then just buy new ones and say hey! now I have two sets of eyes I can do stuff with. Although it is nice to see some doll companies allow you to request eye colors if they have them. For example, Souldoll lets you put in the customer request box what eye color you want on the doll. if you don't specify, you're sent with the ones in the pictures. so that's a nice feature you find sometimes.

    12. I like the surprise because I never even know what I want! I tend to always go toward the same 1-2 colours ^^; this gives me a chance to discover and try new colours :)
I got some really lovely glass eyes with my fairyland doll but they were one size bigger (fairyland seems to prefer when you can't see the white of the eye because they always give big eyes!) and she could not use them. so even if they had let me picked the colour....

    13. When I ordered my first doll I just knew she would be sent with brown eyes. Which is not want I wanted for her. I ended up ordering a pair of blue eyes so that I would have them for her in case she was sent with something I didn't like. I was lucky and they sent her with blue eyes! However, it was the exact same pair I had ordered so now I have two of the same. Oh well, I love the color so I can use them for a future doll. It's funny because I kind of hope my next doll will be sent with brown eyes. He'll probably come with blue ones.

    14. This thread is so tragically amusing I had to read through all 19 pages.
For all parts I agree with chibaraki some X pages back, when the doll company tells you they include a pair of random eyes then that is exactly what you are entitled to get, anything else (complying with a specific colour request, etc) is a service they offer if they can and feel like it. The amount of self-entitlement some people feel is sickening, it's like buying a lotto ticket and then complain to the hosts of the lottery that you didn't win 'because you spent a lot of money on this!!!'

As for me, I really rather like the surprise factor in getting a pair of random eyes. You might get something really cool, or you'll get that pair of really hideous X coloured whatnots that you'll store in the back of a shelf and forget until the next time you throughoutly clean your house/room. The moment I decide to buy a doll I usually have a certain eye colour in mind, so I'll order a different pair anyway.

    15. ...The way you worded this makes it sound like the very term itself somehow morally offends you, like someont talking about "colored dolls" or something. You may not like being given a random pair of eyes, but I don't see how the term itself is bad...

    16. I am just happy to get a free pair of eyes. Though it is nice when you get a pair and they are not ones you would have chosen, but you end up liking them. Also, with my first doll I didn't have a lot of money to buy extras beyond the mold at first, so to at least have a pair of eyes to start was nice.

    17. I think random eyes are a great idea, it's nice for the company to send free eyes with a doll and they make good placeholder eyes while waiting for the ones you ordered to arrive. It also helped me decide which colour eyes I wanted for my doll as she came with blue and I didn't think that colour really suited her character.

    18. I happen to like random eyes for characters I haven't yet fleshed out. For those I have, then I'm not looking for the free eyes anyway. I'll want something specific and I'll go on eBay for that or order them with the doll if available and on sale...

Of course, I also have a box filled with eyes I use when playing around with their characters, so I'm not picky. :D

    19. I don't think it would be fair to the companies, like Iplehouse as it would be quite hard to fulfil everyone's needs. Actually if you ask them (in the comments box) when you order to send a specific colour of eyes, or to NOT send a specific colour they always fulfil it. All four of my Iple's come with the eye colour I wanted for them.
Then again a great suggestion would be to do something like what Bambicrony does. Where they have premium Mako eyes in their company promotion shots and they give you the option to order the eyes with the extra charge. That could be something that Iple could do in the future which would make us happier with their dolls...As if it is even possible to make them better!!

    20. Iplehouse sometimes offers the option to purchase the Enchanted Doll eyes shown in an LE's sales photo. They don't offer it with every LE, but they started that years ago. I bought some lovely EDs with my Circus Master Tedros (and then they turned out not to suit him at all, anyway ^^). For the other LEs with acrylics, they are pretty good about responding to your request for a specific color if you ask them beforehand.

When it comes to an unchangeable random-choice colors, *pfft* just take the random ones for free, then go eyeball-shopping elsewhere & get on with your life.

(I'd also hesitate to call Mako eyes 'premium'. -_-)

 Yeah-- some people would complain about the rope you give 'em to hang themselves.
