1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I don't usually like the random eyes I get, but they've worked out better than the ones I chose twice so far. :) As for the other ones...maybe I could put them in a jar and use them as a prop or something? xD Either way, it is exciting not knowing what I'm going to get, regardless of whether or not I'm going to be able to use it. ^-^

    2. I see. Thanks!

With the darker coloured resin I think it's a bigger challenge for companies to get those colours stabilised. It's a bit like the darker the formula, the higher the risk of marbling or an unstable colour reacting to light. If there was a way to have perfectly stable tan/real skin colours more companies would be doing those colours as part of their standard range. Its impressive that Bobobie/Resinsoul and Dollshe, for example, are able to work with so many colours for their standard dolls.

    3. It doesn't really bother me that much to be honest, but it would be nice to have the choice :)

    4. I don't really care at all. If you don't like the color they sent you then change them. No big deal.

    5. I guess it doesn't really matter. It is easy to trade eyes or buy a new pair. I've actually benefitted from random eyes from a company. When my friend got her luts doll, he came with purple eyes. I ended up with those eyes and love them. Plus, I think it's nice for the company to give any eyes at all. They may not be the eyes that I wanted, but I can still do stuff with my doll that I ordered until I can get the eyes I want, instead of an eyeless doll that I can't do anything with.

    6. It bugs me a bit, today I got a doll and I just hate the eyes, I look forward to them usually because If I don't like them for that doll I can use them for others, but these are just an ugly dead looking blue. >.<
More than that, eye size bothers me, I once got the most beautiful glass eyes I have ever seen but they are 18mm, which was way too big for the MSD doll they came in so I could never use them.

Trading/selling them is always an option though, so its not a huge issue.

    7. Random eyes don't bother me one bit. Most of them haven't worked out, but that's not a problem, I just set them aside, and one set has found a home in another doll (others may be sold later). Ultimately, I'm often looking for something so particular, the range offered as "defaults" as a company wouldn't do me one bit of good, anyway.

Similarly, most companies really don't offer everything listed off in the opening post of this thread. Dolls either come with mobility joints or they don't. They either come with double joints or they don't. FairyLand's the only one I can think of that offers hand choices, and only through the ala carte system. (I'm certain there are others, that just happens to be the only one coming to mind at the moment.) Skintones are often limited to two choices only. Why get worked up over a basic set of acrylic eyes anyway? You aren't even getting a wig or clothes, take your freebie graciously.

That said, you are not taking issue with the term "Random Eye Color," you are taking issue with the practice of including random eyes with dolls.

    8. I actually really like getting random eyes! It is a big surprise when they come in. With my second doll the photos on the website showed her with purple eyes, and she came with green. It's like a kid in some ways I guess; if that doesn't sound too weird. You wonder what eyes they will be born with.
And while on a kid you can't change their eye color with bjd's you can even if the pair they come with is just filler.

    9. I think they are supposed to be some kind of gift for us that comes with the doll so I dont really think we have a right to chose which one we want. I mean, we can ask them for something specific? But if that wish wasnt fulfilled we shouldnt get upset Q~Q /meownopinion

    10. I don't find it a big problem, if you are already paying a fortune for your doll, then buying the eyes you want is just a drop in the ocean cost wise. I don't even think its always random, maybe they put some thought in to it - When I got my doll they had given her beautiful purple eyes that went great with her purplish face up, never even opened the color that I brought for her. I think opening the box and seeing what color they have used is part of the joy of getting your doll.

    11. I've never worried about random eyes - I've always found uses for them. The 16mm glass eyes that came in my MNF girl (which were WAAAAY too big for her) look great in my SD girl. Since they're technically a free gift, I think it's really nice the company sends them so that they doll doesn't come with empty eye sockets. Sure, they might not be to your taste/the dolls character, but you can always save them for another doll, or chuck them up on the MP

    12. I feel like if they did add that option, they would have you pay extra for them. I would rather get a free pair of random eyes. If you don't like them, you could always sell them to pay for the eyes that you do want. And chances are, that if you can get enough money for the doll, you can find a way to get enough money for new eyes. I just always thought it was nice they give you eyes at all.

    13. It doesn't really bother me all that much; I'm happy that they give eyes with a doll. Although it would of course be nice to choose, but I understand that the company can't always please a buyer fully and that they can only do so much. ^^

    14. I'm kind of interested to see what my doll comes with, even though I know most likely I won't use them. I do see eyes as more of a "free gift" with purchase.

I really liked the photos on the company's website in which my girl's eyes had no pupil, so I'm going to find some eyes like that for her, though I haven't decided on a color.

I guess it seems to be like the random eyes are just like buying a doll with a face-up, wig, and/or outfit. I bought the full set for my girl, even though I know I will be buying her a new wig and clothes. But paying that extra to get the full set means to me that I can start enjoying her right away, and not worry about making sure she's dressed and do a face-up before I can get to know her.

    15. I am not a fan of "random eye color"...
It will be much better if some companies will allow to choose the exact color of the eyes during the making of order.

    16. It would be cool if they offered for you to choose, but I quite like the anticipation of not knowing what it will be and it doesn't really bother me anyway. Sometimes the random eyes turn out to be better than the colour I originally wanted anyway.

    17. I don't like the idea of random eye color... but I have never questioned about the policy. When my Howl (LUTS) came home, I was very disappointed with the brown glass eyes that came with him. I then ordered a pair of blue eyes for him just like the official site's photo.

    18. You can request a certain color and most will try to give you that color if they have any in stock then. So it doesn't bother me.

    19. I think it'd be really cool for companies to offer the random eyes in categories. That way, you feel like you had some control over the random, but it still gave the companies the freedom to give you what they got.
For example, three categories, normal color, warm color and cool color. You pick one and they pick something within the category. you are more likely to like the eyes since you had a vote in the matter but they got the final say since it is their product and all...
But I haven't ordered from a company yet so yeah..

    20. I really like the surprise of random eyes AND random wigs. I think it lends to the anticipation of the wait. Honestly, I have no idea what color eyes or wigs will suit my doll until I GET my doll so I think it's neat to try something I might not have picked.
