1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I'm happy if I get free eyes at all! If I want a specific color then I can buy it myself. I might get annoyed if they came in a random size though!

    2. My Kassia from IH will be blonde hair, blue eyed so I let them know in the comments hoping they would put blue eyes in her. However, I wound up getting a pair of their aqua eyes as well so at least I would be happy with the eyes and not have to wait to get them. I found it amazing there were so few colors to choose from on their site. It does seem such a small, inexpensive item to grant the new owner the color they wish. I guess, I am not even sure if I would go up to the 14 mm so will be stuck with two pairs of 12 mm. I do prefer the glass eyes and assume whatever they put in would be acrylic. First doll from them so guess I will find out mid Oct.

    3. Random eyes are fine by me xD they are usually quite nice even if they don't match the doll they come with. I always buy my dolls specific eyes that fit their character if they don't come with matching ones, and the ones they have in I simply save aside for when they're needed. Sure enough there will be some doll they fit eventually!

    4. When I ordered my boy there was the option to state a preference, but they're not guaranteed. I think that's fair enough. I get the feeling that the eyes are really more of a 'throw in' than anything, and most people probably change them sooner or later. I'm hoping I get the ones I requested, but it's simple enough to buy a different pair, so I won't be too bothered if I get randoms.

    5. Honestly, I think most companies would allow you to choose the color of the eye if you specify it! That has been my experience, at least.

    6. I never use the random eyes anyway. I would rather buy some high-quality eyes so long as the doll's eye wells can accommodate them.

That said, I do have two ahhh, "less expensive" dolls whose eyes seem to be beveled for cheap eyes. I can't physically get any better quality eyes to fit, nor can I modify the eye wells due to the thinness of the resin at that spot. So, those two will have to live with having cheap eyes unless I can find someone to custom-make eyes with extremely low domes.

    7. I think it's super nice of companies to include free eyes when they do--I've also heard that most companies will tend to oblige if you request for a certain color of eyes (in the comment box or something). I was surprised that my blank DZ head came with lovely glass eyes, when I had ordered a pair of glass eyes along with him. Leah's default acrylics suited her well, but then I switched them out for the eyes that came with the DZ head and they're absolutely perfect! Plus, it's always nice to have spares.

And I've never seen glass eyes for $6... I've never even seen acrylics go that cheap, at least from a company. On the secondhand market, sure. But I think the cheapest eyes I've seen were $10 or so. Most eyes seem to be $15-$25, depending on the company and material. Obviously really nice urethanes are more expensive than basic acrylics.

But even if it does cost $30 to change the eyes, that's way different than having a car repainted (which is in the hundreds of dollars). It's like if the car company said "comes with free steering wheel cover/plush seat cushions/air freshener" and you were upset because you wanted a pine air freshener and they gave you vanilla, when it was a cost you normally already factor in outside of the car. If that makes sense.

    8. Hehe.

I'd feel entitled to request what I'd prefer from the freebie eye department, but not to be indignant if the company (for whatever reason) ships a different pair. Cheap, random eyes are included so you don't have to stare at your creepy hairless hunk of resin and feel like they might possess your soul at any given moment. It's just a nice gesture on the company's part.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you bought something battery-operated and it already had a pair of batteries included so you could play with your new nifty thing right out of the box? It's like that. No one complained that they came with cheap batteries or what have you, because it was understood that they were given freely to enhance the enjoyment of the actual product you bought, and you'd replace them with something longer-lasting a bit later.

    9. It doesn't really bother me too much, I think because it's what I've come to expect. But I think it would be nice if instead of giving you a random pair, you got to choose. What you would do is go to the acrylic eyes section and add a pair to your chart that's in stock and they'd send that pair. But at the same time, I kinda understand why they wouldn't want to do that. I personally think the random eye color is how they get rid of eye colors that are low on sales at the moment.

    10. I don't think it's an issue, if I want a certain eye color I'll ask for it in the order comments. With my 3 incoming dolls I didn't even bother to ask (praying one comes with brown though >.<). Not to mention if it's really that huge a problem, I can just buy nicer eyes anyways.

    11. While I would love the option of choosing the eye color, I would NOT want to wait any longer for them to get that color and size back in stock. It is a pain though. I totally understand because I am SOOOOOOOO hoping my RS dolls don't come with the yellow eyes. Yellow eyes are just not my thing.

    12. I really don't the like being given random eyes. I wish you could get the same color as the picture, or were able to pick, but I understand why they aren't able to accommodate. Just wish they could.

    13. Well, it is a bit sad that we can't choose which eyes we want, but then again, it's usually offered free if it's random with a doll, so I don't mind it. The only problem I'd have is that I won't be able to use it anytime soon as I don't have many dolls. Of course, depending on the persona of my dolls, different colors would be useful as some of my character personas love to wear different colored contacts.

    14. It's also very hard to find really nice looking eyes and usually the ones you get with the doll are nice quality. Has anyone else experienced this? I can't ever find especially light blue colors. Maybe I just don't know where to look?

    15. I don't mind. They probably don't have all colors and sizes in at the same time. If their are eyes I really want I'll just buy them along side the doll so I know I'll get them. The random ones are bonus. Plus with my Anthony doll I ordered both red and grey eyes but fell in love with the blue ones he came with. I would have never bought blue eyes for him but they look so amazing I can't bring myself to take them out. :)

    16. You are right on that one. My Linda macario came with violet eyes and I would have never chosen that color, but I love them on her :)

    17. Haha...I have the RS yellow eyes in one of my dolls! Got him in January. I was going to get rid of those eyeballs right away, but now I can't really imagine him with "normal" eyes. So I am glad about his random eyes.

I never would have considered an unusual color otherwise ;)

    18. I asked for the eye color in the one doll I cared about immediate eye color for and I got it. Now of course I think it's the wrong color for her.

    19. I was not bothered until the third one came with brown eyes too! same as the other two. so why do they have so many brown random eyes??

    20. When you have a child you do not know how his eyes will be. So I see it as a surprise... But I buy the eyes I want with the doll. I do this only once. When I think that my doll must have grey eyes, then he/ she will have it for the rest of their lives....
