1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. I'm a curious person and kinda like the surprise of random eyes, it intrigues me,
kinda makes me want to buy the doll more if it has random eyes and a random wig.

    2. Yeah, unless the eyes are exactly what you're looking for, I guess it's better to save that money for something else.

    3. Well some of them are included in the price of the doll so free eyes - why not?
I think it's also fun to see what eyes you got when you finally open the package.

    4. I wish they would at least tell you what the color was, I get that they are free, but if I knew ahead of time what the color was and I didn't like it, I would buy a second set of eyes right away. I didn't like the color I got with my BBD doll and then had to wait an extra couple of weeks to get the pair I liked. Just sayin'.

    5. I agree with Mariano that we should be able to choose the eye color! Maybe 1st choice and 2nd choice in case they are low on a particular color. And if there is a lot of demand for a particular color, stock more of that color for your customers! It would be the icing on the cake to receive our long-awaited dolls with the eye color that just "makes" the doll for us.

    6. I'm not into the "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" way of thinking. I like something free if it's of good quality and I have a use for it. Otherwise it's just another waste of the earth's diminishing resources that is hard to justify. Our hobby is already not environmentally friendly.

Luckily big companies usually honour eye requests on the order form. Small companies are more problematic, I wish more had an option like Musedoll where you pick your eyes from a menu of what is currently in stock.

    7. I think the free random eyes are a nice gesture. Not every company does it. I also enjoy the surprise. I've bought a few dolls that kept their random eyes because I liked them so well.

    8. I also have an issue with this, if you choose the skin colour, sculpt , mobility types, and bust sizes etc, I think we should at least get to choose a basic eye colour...

    9. But you do get to choose a basic eye colour - you can buy any eyes you like from any eye company!

    10. I'm stoked I get free eyes. I'm not picky about the first eyes.

    11. I'm kind of in the boat that, companies don't have to provide anything free with what you buy, i've been pretty lucky though, i've asked a couple of times if I can have a specific color and they try their best to work with for me to get it , I don't know, maybe just asking them would be a good option?

    12. I think it's nice to get random eyes if their included with the doll. 3 of 4 of my dolls so far have a default eye color for that sculpt. The one who came with "random eyes" is tan and came with blue eyes which I don't like for her, but at least she had eyes while I waited for her $15 glass ones to come. Most companies send inexpensive acrylic eyes anyway, so it doesn't seem like such a big deal to get different ones. Having eye color as a choice would still not give you the freedom of picking the exact color you want. Even DDE carries a wide range of colors, and eye companies like Captured in Glass have even more. I'm willing to pay a little extra for that freedom.

    13. I know that some companys are very accomidating if you put in a request for certain colors in the notes/comment box when ordering.

    14. I found a really nice use for these random eyes. I've started giving them away as gifts.

Not like, "Here noob, have my unwanted things!" but a couple of times already I ran into someone at the meet who was new, got a doll without eyes/with eyes, but not in the colour they wanted, and I just happened to have the eyes they liked. So I've given the eyes to them. ^^ Otherwise, I'd usually carefully pack the default eyes away and send them off as a present to the new owner of the doll if I sell one.

In that sense, it's kind of neat!

    15. That's actually a very good point that I never thought of.
I've always thought of the free eyes as a nice gesture, even if I don't like what I get. But putting it into terms of waste, well, I do admit I have some free eyes that I will never use and I just don't think are nice enough to give away. They will, more than likely, one day end up in the thrash can. And, really, what's the point in getting free things that you are just going to throw out?

    16. And woops, again i got purple eyes! This time in a puki. Sooo hate purple eyes.

    17. There's no reason to just throw away a perfectly useful set of eyes, though, even if they're not "first quality" or exactly what you wanted yourself. That really would be needlessly wasteful.

As several people have already mentioned, there are much better things to do with them... Gifts to other collectors who might want or need them in spite of their cheapness, temp eyes for future in-coming dolls of your own, freebies to go out with dolls or heads you decide to sell, craft projects or what-have-you. There are things that can be done with them beyond chucking them into the bin.

    18. Calling these companies 'wasteful' is a bit harsh, I think. If we'd use this logic, none of us on earth should ever do, or make anything again. We're using resources day in and out: even when making a drawing we're making use of what used to be a tree.

To me, these free eyes are a nice gesture. They are doing something nice for us, and I appreciate it.

    19. I use the eyes I don't like as freebies with dolls I sell! I've given away really high quality eyes, purely because they can with a doll and weren't what I needed!

Maybe we should start swapping eyes we don't want?
Though, I wouldn't mind if companies gave you choices of their instock eyes, as some companies adhere to eye requests :)

    20. I do find it annoying like when you order a doll and they show it in a nice outfit and it doesn't come with it but there is no option to buy it. I'm like GRRR fine and why show us a doll with eyes if your not going to give us the eyes in picture. So you're showing us a picture of a doll that has lovely make up blonde with blue eyes and frilly dress. But what you're really selling us is a blank doll with green eyes a similar face-up, thats it. Well that makes me mad. I know they want to sell dolls but really think of it why not show us a blank doll with no eyes and no face-up and in the different skin colors you offer. Show us the truth and then show pictures of dolls with outfits on it at are available with the doll. Thats why I don't buy many different skin color dolls because they show whit and flesh tone ones rarely tanned and I find that awful because what if you bought a doll with tanned skin and it doesn't suit that doll then you have a dol you wanted to love but now can't think about it these companies lie to us.
