1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

I take issue with the term 'Random Eye Color'! Do you?

Jan 8, 2012

    1. Uh - you are aware that most companies also have pics of blank dolls or at least, blank heads on their websites, aren't you?

    2. Sorry I got a little ranty. Yes some do most don't not for everything and I am happy when they show you the blank doll I really am.

    3. The second doll I bought came with random eyes that needed fitting by myself, which I did not mind. However the eyes did not match at all, one brown and one blue, just like my human friend who was visiting at the time my doll arrived. We laughed so much. I still have the doll today. I would however prefer if we always had a choice of eye colour as I have often changed the eyes to get the look I want for that particular doll. I think it should be buyers choice.

    4. You could of course ask for a picture if there's something you'd like to see and it doesn't show on their website.

Point is, only taking pictures of blank dolls isn't going to sell. You have to show what the doll is capable of looking. That's why Soom, for instance, spends a lot of effort on their sales pictures: they generate customers.
It's like when you buy a chair online: you get to see pictures of it standing in a living room that's nicely decorated. Now, you're only going to get that chair and nothing else in the picture, but by showing it in a well-done room, the sellers are showing its potential. I doubt anyone thinks that fantastic fireplace is also part of the deal, nor the patchwork blanket lying on the seat.

    5. It is the buyer's choice, always. ;) You can visit loads of different webpages and sales threads for dedicated eye-sellers to select the right eyes for your doll instead of feeling you're at the mercy of a company's whimsy when it comes to random eyes.

I vastly prefer glass eyes for my dolls and I usually buy from Hand Glass Craft because I really like their style and quality, so it really doesn't matter to me whether companies include free eyes or not because I'm always going to be changing them to the eyes I, the buyer, have specifically chosen for my dolls.

I think the thing to remember is that it is up to you to finish your doll to your taste, most companies seem happy to accomodate polite requests for specific eye colours but because there are so many eye sellers and shops around you don't have to buy all your doll accessories from the same place, you can shop around for a better price/style you prefer/material/quality. Unless you're buying a full-set or a full choice or a la carte doll (where you've instructed the company to create and finish your doll for you,) your doll arrives at your door ready and waiting for your customization choices to finish it off.
