1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If someone broke your doll?

Jul 11, 2009

    1. That would depend on the circumstances and how badly the doll was damaged. If it only recieved some minor chipping in the face up, some small scratches and whatnot I'd be a little annoyed but I wouldn't demand they paid me for it, an apology would suffice. But if a leg broke off, the torso chipped, a finger broke or some major visual thing that would leave a permanent ugly scar on the doll I'd demand they replace the parts damaged or compensated me the full doll (or doll body) price. No $100 for a leg or $40 for a hand, because I don't think a whole lot of doll companies would let you buy only a right leg or a left hand like that, and I'm not filling in the remaining $____ to buy an entire new body to replace a single leg.

IOW. Common store policy applies: you break it, you replace or compensate it.

    2. for me, i think it depends on how they broke it. i've had people unintentionally break toys before by dropping or whatnot and not cared. then i've had people break things by being jerks and whipping it around/ being aggressive with them. if it was intentional damage i would ask for repair costs for sure!
it would also depend on level of damage. if it's something i can fix myself, or minor, i probably wouldn't care. but if they managed to break, say, a peanut in the legs so the joint wouldn't work, i would probably ask them if they would be willing to replace it/ monetary compensation.

    3. Hi together,

Perhaps the question is a little bit strange, but I’m curious and I hope this thread doesn’t exist already, because I didn’t find it.
I don’t have a doll yet, so that didn’t happen to me and I really hope it didn’t happen to anyone at all, but I started thinking about the what ifs (yeah so sue me, I’m a little bit of a pessimist and most of the time expecting the worst… especially from people I don’t know)…

So… what would you do if someone had damaged your doll while handling it? Perhaps even without your permission (the handling of course)? What if said someone wouldn’t see it as a big deal or would even refuse to pay for the repairs? Would it be worst if the culprit was one of the community? Or someone you know? Would you want to get the repairs or whatever paid? Perhaps even the whole doll, if the damage is more than… let’s say… a broken finger or something like that? How would you handle the situation?

    4. Sometimes a group of people may crowd your doll out of sight just before it gets broken and no one fesses up. Sometimes you just can't prove that someone broke your doll. I've had two dolls broken like that. But if I was 100% sure of exactly broke my doll, I would very calmly say "Please do pay for that."

    5. I don't let anyone touch my dolls for exactly this reason - if they damaged it you would want them to be responsible, but I just feel it's better to be on the safe side. (Is it weird to not want anyone else touching your dolls?) I also don't touch anyone else's dolls, but if I did cause any damage I would own up and offer to make reparations.

    6. Momiji2010 It's not weird. I don't let anyone else handle my dolls anymore, unless it's for a good reason.

    7. This is one of my BIG fears.
Breaking my own doll? Not a big deal.
But if someone else broke my doll, I'd be quite upset. If I broke someone else's doll, I'd feel even worse.

If I broke the doll, I would of course offer to pay for it. Even if I couldn't really afford to, it would have to go on the credit card (I usually have a "no dolls on the credit card" rule, but in this case I would make an exception).

If someone else broke mine... well, I would probably want them to pay for it, but I wouldn't ask them to. I'm too non-confrontational. Especially if they seemed to feel really guilty.

    8. I don't really like people touching my stuff in general, but if a doll of mine were to be handled and then broken... They'd be paying for it and really fighting to still be my friend (if they were to begin with).

    9. Well, if I had given them my permission to hold my doll and it was clearly an accident I'd let it go. I wouldnt consider it their fault at all since I gave them my permission :) Now if they were handeling the doll without my permission, or god forbid they did it on purpose then I would consider it their responsibility to replace, or pay me for the damage.

    10. if you break it, you pay for it. (:

    11. first I would grip their shoulder so they couldn't run away. then I'd quietly inform them of the price and value of the doll, make them understand it is a legitimate hobby, and then say the word 'compensation' a lot. Very friendly-like. I would then take out my phone and gather their contact info.

      Because wow. Just no.

    12. One time I was at a convention watching from afar a group of BJD owners playing with their dolls. Someone was trying to pose an arm, and broke someone elses bjd. IDK what exactly happened, but it was clearly broken at the elbow in a way that would not stay on and cracked or something. I had to run away and cry. I can't imagine how that owner must have felt. ;~;

    13. I'd be fine if it's not something major and is replaceable, but if it's a major part of the face or body, I'd demand compensation, but then i would not be able to replace those parts because it just won't be the same doll imo.

Probably have to resort to modding, who knows, it might just add to the aesthetics. (hopefully)

If I broke someone else's doll, however, I would offer to pay compensation immediately, as I can imagine how it feels if that was my own doll.

    14. I don't have that problem, because I close the door to the rooms that my dolls are in when someone comes over ;)

My sister is the only person that I've let hold & play with my dolls, & she has dolls of her own so there has never been an accident. *knock on wood* :sweat

So far I've bought Volks stands that hold around the waist, but I wanted the saddle stands so their stand would not be in the way of their dress. I looked into what other people had & a lot of people had the same fear that their dolls would fall off the saddle stand, and break something.

All of my girls were FCS, so I would be rather upset if anything happened to them, bc it's not like I can got to the Volks INC site, & order another like you can the dolls that they sell as kits. If it was something that I could replace I would.

    15. I think I'd say something along the lines of "You've heard of, 'you break it, you buy it?' well in this case it's 'you break it, I break you'."

But seriously though, anyone who did any damage to one of my dolls would be expected to replace the broken parts. Dolls are not cheap!

    16. Depends entirely on who, what, and how. Non doll people and strangers are NEVER allowed to handle my dolls, so it's barely applicable. However, if it happened by a stranger, like they grabbed my doll from me and something happened to it? You can best believe they'd be hit in the face, be it my left fist, my giant ring of keys, or a leg of lamb. Sorry, but I don't play. A person I don't really know at a meet? "So....paper or paypal?" A doll-friend? I'd just have them fix it or pay up later on.

Now if I did that, and broke someone's doll, they wouldn't have to say anything. They'd have my paypal address so fast it would make their doll's wig spin.

    17. I think it depends of who the person was that broke it, for example if it was your best friend and it broke on accident then I might be a little less mad. But if someone was trying to brake my doll, and they did break it, then I would make them pay for the damage.

    18. Well, the first thing I'd probably do is cry.
I would offer to pay for damages if I broke someone elses doll, accident or not, it's just the right thing to do, so I guess I would probably expect someone to pay for damages if they broke MY doll. Even more so if they were being careless or were handling my doll without my permission. In that case I would flat out demand payment.

    19. Oh gosh. I think that would really make me very sad. Especially if it is the first doll.

    20. i take good care of my dolls and my other stuff . so if someone broke my dolls, i think i will get extremely mad about it.
