If Soom released their monthly dolls as a basic line next year, how would you feel?

Jun 9, 2010

    1. i dont understand why people are so upset about this beril.
the doll isn't listed as "basic" and there still no info of what Soom is gonna do.
why make all this fuss based on nothing?
but i well remember peole was more iper happy when soom sold 8 sard in normal skin. and he was with fantasy parts.
like someone told before, could be that this beril is a new limited herself, maybe is limited by number or less time to buy , who knows?

    2. I think it's a good idea. I don't think they'd ever release the limited dolls along with their previous limited outfits and wigs and eyes and face ups and parts. I was under the impression that was what made them limited. I think it's kind of elitist to be angry about the normal sculpt being released. If I were a soom sculptor I would be angry about people being angry about me releasing more of my dolls, a decision made under the constantly changing demands of customers.

And with all the pressure on popular companies like Soom, I don't blame them for being "hypocrites" now and then. With so many people saying DON'T YOU DARE RE RELEASE THIS and DON'T YOU DARE NOT RE RELEASE THIS it's impossible for them to be the good guys, ever.

    3. The MD were limited versions; they had their own face ups, fantasy parts, clothing etc. I personally do not mind at all with them rereleasing the sculpts in basic form. They will still be different in their own way without all the limited parts. I think it would be slightly off for them to re release the whole package of a limited doll again, but even that wouldnt annoy me, its a company, they do what they want. And I am a person who bought the full set Chrom. All of this does not matter to me in the slightest.
Im excited to see which ones get released as basic versions and what they will be presented like :) Even Chrom! I wanted Chrom badly, I got him. I still have him and still adore him. If I didnt get him I would be very pleased they were rereleasing so i could get him, but still upset that I didnt get the original because of his fantasy parts.

    4. Should Soom conduct their business in the same way as other companies?

Regardless of whether we consider an MD turned into a basic no longer a limited, it seems that Soom allowed those that asked to believe whatever they wanted to. Using a loophole, doesn't change that there might have been deception. Will most of us still buy from them? Well, yeah. :)

    5. I think the funniest comment on there was someone threatening to sue Soom. I think people are blowing this waaaaay out of proportions. There are much worse things to worry about in the world at the moment.

    6. What's up with the negativity? There's nothing wrong with expressing feelings in this forum, as long as isn't intentionally snarky to anyone else.

I am happy to have him. :D

Yet, I think it's normal for people to wish they could pay less. I don't think that makes anyone bad for wanting that. In fact, it makes the most sense to get the best deal you can.

    7. What taixonay said. I would be pretty mad myself if I had paid assloads on a limited I didn't expect to be re-released, but guess what? I would have no one to blame but myself. As many others have said, these are luxury items, and you willingly chose to what to buy and how you prioritize your finances. If getting a crazy expensive doll was worth it at the time, there's absolutely no reason you should redirect your buyer's regret at the company that made no profit whatsoever from the marked up prices. Be mad, but be mad at yourself and quit it with the immature comments towards the company.

    8. Oh my god.

People. Grow the hell up. Seriously. =___=

To the people who OWN MD's. You've got your doll. You're happy. So why be bloody selfish numb-brains who dont like seeing others happy? christ all-mighty!

No-ones taking away your doll. You can still make them worth the money you put in u___u it's a hobby for customizing. If you don't like the fact that companies need money to survive? well...

      go live underground : )

To be honest. You limited owners have something others will not own. The limited parts. Hooves, horns etc. Soom aren't remaking these. Nor are they offering us your precious limited CW skin .___.

It's not the same doll. Same face, yes. Same opportunities you got? No.

      Please just grow up.

And to the person who's going to SUE soom. get a life. xD really.

      Whats your case?

"omg. This company brainwashed me into spending all my money D: boo hoo!!!"

.___. grow up. Life goes on. It's just a damn doll. u___u

I think people need to chill out and look at their MD's. If this re-release is SO hurtful to your dolls. Why not just smash the limited parts? since the work put into them mean nothing to you .___.

the doll is easily re-produced. Those clear resin parts, or horns or tails... even the clothes. They can't be made again. Not even the resin colour can be made again. Stop being so selfish. If you dont like the new release, don't look. No--ones making you. Just like they arent making you spend your money on a doll. u__u that's your choice, isnt it? Or have soom forced your hand? ^^;; nobody ever NEEDS a certain doll. they WANT. you pay for what you want. If you regret it, sell the doll and move on. solved <3

    9. The many people who are pointing out that plenty of doll makers have done this before are right, obviously – but woah, never have there been so many statements of angry backlash for it from people, at least that I’ve seen. Even in the most comparable case (which IMO is Volks owners who had to pay VERY high aftermarket prices to get the original version of the doll just as some people have had to do for Soom monthlies.) Slight irritation yes, but floods of disgruntled feedback posted directly to the company? Wow.

If monthlies are released as basics (though personally, I suspect this Beryl will be similar to the NS Sard run), I feel for the people who paid a lot for their originals on the secondhand market, really – you couldn’t have spared that money easily, and to save laboriously for a limited you love only to have it rereleased for less later must not be fun– but please remember that Soom didn’t do it to spite you, they did it to please and make happy others. Just think, now more people are going to have the chance to own a Beryl, and theirs will bring them as much pleasure as yours has brought you. Isn't that a good thing?

    10. Yeah... it's this kind of thing I'm noticing a lot. It's like people are unhappy no matter what doll companies decide.

    11. Let's not forget that this thread called for members to post how the situation with Soom made them feel. Even though I personally agree that attacking Soom on their website (or legally) would be fairly unproductive, people should still be able to voice their opinions, negative or positive about Soom's new business model concerning the sculpts of their MDs in this thread. Let's not attack each other for being open and honest about our feelings in a forum meant for it :)

Also, hopefully it means that if people can express some of that fear/resentment here, they might get it out of their system so to speak, and won't spread it to Soom's Q&A board. I was able to get my initial flip-out over with when this thread first started (BEFORE the re-release of Beryl was announced) and now that I've had time I can sit back and digest what my MD means to me personally. I was glad I had the initial opportunity to flip out a little at the start, and read other people's opinions, and allow my own opinion to evolve and open up after.

You're not going to change anyone's mind by telling them to "grow up," or "stop complaining" :)

    12. I bought my Amber in pieces and yeah, she did cost quite a bit. I still nevertheless love her so much. She's actually off getting an ear mod, because I didn't want her with her deer ears.

I think this is great, actually. The fact that they're releasing them in different skintones and possibly a different size is appealing. I would love to get my mits on a Topaz or a Vesuvia (tan Vesuvia... hoooo boooyyyy) and I'm happy at this prospect of getting to own them in the future.

Other companies have done this. Quit crying about it. Volks is usually really bad about it. They'll do re-releases all the time. Get over it! They're not LYING to you.

I've noticed this trend going around that you're going to have to get used to. The companies do what pleases their consumers. If your consumers want an item and the company wants to make money... I'm sure you can figure out where this is leading. Most of the time the people that missed out and want to buy a doll outweigh the elitist jerks. It's not like Soom is seeing any of the profit on the secondhand market. : \

    13. I think if people can be annoyed about the re-release, surely others can be annoyed at the hostility that's being spread? xD;

it;s all well and good getting your frustration out... but some people are being FAR too over the top.

      Threatening legal action?

and completely slating the work put into the monthly parts must hurt the company.

u___u to be honest. what does this prove? People dont care much for actual LIMITED production parts. they care about if their faceplate is OOAK or special.

Also. no, saying grow up probably won't help or change people's mind. but it makes me feel better : )

    14. Of course not. But bitching, whining, and complaining isn't going to change Soom's mind about whatever decisions they decide to make as a company either. And for those who want to 'flip out' on a public forum so they can feel better, well fine, but it does not give others a very positive impression of them at all. Sure, it is a discussion thread where you can voice your opinions and relate with others, or what not, but it would be fabulous if people considered how ridiculous they sound before hitting the 'post' button.

    15. I agree Deni, I'm more annoyed at the way people have dealt with this (on Soom's page), more than I am about them releasing a mould. I think some of the people have proved to act very childish on Soom, and it doesn't give a great impression of people in the hobby.

    16. Yep. imagine the newer members?

If they sign up to see all the hate and flaming of a company that will damage the company unlawfully.

SoOm never lied. i see no official statement on their site binding them to bin their molds after one set of use.

.__. they worked hard on their dolls. its up to them if they wanna re-release. if people don't like the fact that it happens in this hobby, maybe a new direction is needed?

Try something less variable... knitting? xD

    17. I personally would love the idea if they released a simple basic version of their monthlies.

I mean, imagine if you fell in love with one of the monthlies, but hadn't the feesable means to get the doll in the time allotted? Yes there's layaway plans, however there are also people who save for their dolls because of life happening so they set aside a small amount as often as they can.

If they release a basic, one would assume it wouldn't have any special bits, it would have perhaps one or two skin colors, and that's it. It's not the super special one they had in the monthlies, it's just a plain doll with the face-mold you like.

    18. Here, here Remiera!

I'd be happy for them to release these molds again.

Everyone deserves a chance to own a dream doll.

I have a MD head myself.

Doesnt make her any less special

    19. I would feel awesome if they made NS, no fantasy part, no special resin versions of all the MDs. That way the fantasy parts and special resin still give the Limited versions the "value" they currently have and if anyone ever wanted a normal version of _____ MD they can have it!

Can really blame soom for trying to make a profit, they have bills too!

    20. People are angry and I aggree with them. Sometimes the buying of a limited doll (direct from Soom), is done because of the limited availablity of he doll. That if you don't buy now you have lost your chance. So you buy the doll, and there is an assumed value to the doll, one of which being the rarity/LE that it is only 1 of X amount of dolls. Because of this, Soom monthlys have fetched a high price in the secondary hand market.

Now Soom is making more of what was once a limited doll. Even if re-release is limited as well and different from the initial release. There were some assumptions made, or even people were told by Soom that this limited edition would not be re-released. So they are going to be hurt because in a way Soom has gone back against their word, or they lied. The doll that was limited WILL loose some of it's market place value, and it's value as a limited doll. It's now 1 of X now it's one 1 of X but there is now a bunch of Ys when there weren't even Ys before.

Some people will sell their LE MD doll and buy the other edition, because the new edition is more what they want, or is cheaper and they didn't specifically like the entire doll but just the facial mold anyways, so just focusing on what they wanted is obviouslly better for them. Those people who wanted the LE MD dolls but couldn't get them due to not knowing about them, cost, etc... will have a better chance of getting the doll, (atleast for a short while), as there will be more in the market and at a cheaper/lower price, and these people will be happier.

These people who are happy about the re-release can't seem to understand why the original owners/buyers of the LE MD dolls would get upset, and not happy about the situation. They see that the person already owns the LE MD doll so that it shouldn't matter that more are released, there status of the owning the doll won't change. The monitary value of the doll may go down but unless they were planning to resell it, and since they are not likely to that shouldn't matter. But the issue is that the VALUE of the doll is not simply Monitary, but the availability for the doll, and why it was LE. And the re-releasing is devaluing that value (along with the monitary second hand value), regardless of if they want to sell their doll. These are 'art pieces' so preceived value means alot.

As for those who say 'but now more people can enjoy/appreciate/get the doll'. Thing is, it's not like the LE MD dolls were display only, they were/have all been available in the second hand market. Usually people who comment that they are happy to be able to get the doll now, really mean 'happy to be able to get the doll without paying second hand market prices', and not caring that the original purchase's dolls are being de-valued because their own personal needs/wants come first.

Then you have those who say 'but it's different, it's in a different skin tone, etc...and therefore that makes it okay'. But people bought the LE MD with the assumption (propegated by Soom) that they would not be re-releasing. That if they wanted a Tan Beryl the would have to get a LE MD Beryl and dye/paint it themselves. With the customization available in this hobby basically anything and everything is possiable, people just don't want to pay for such. (Including the risk that the mod may not go right).

So one can be happy for yourself and for others that this makes the doll available to more people, but one has got to respect that those angry about this change are more then justified in their anger, and thus again I totally support those who are angry at Soom. I am angry at Soom and I don't even own a Beryl but I use to, because like many I had to get one when they came out because of the belief that they wouldn't be available ever again.
