1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If Soom released their monthly dolls as a basic line next year, how would you feel?

Jun 9, 2010

    1. See but you had people who talked to the sales person, and the manager, and were assured they wouldn't restock, and so they had to buy the doll now so they could get it without paying secondary market prices. So they bought the item now, with an idea that it was limited to only those set number of pieces. A year later you come into the store, only to find the same thing, but now in a slightly different shade. It's wrong to be mean to the store of the situation, as they are just trying to make a buck, but the buyers do get upset when this sort of thing happens. Because yes they were lied to. But because it's a company that's out to make a buck, it's allowed.

    2. Second this. I really, really hope that Soom doesn't take these comments to heart. Those comments are uncalled for, no matter what you think of the company.

    3. Volks does it all the time, and you don't see us complaining. Why must people be so rude? They [Soom and other doll companies] rerelease dolls for the benefit and enjoyment of others. This temper tantrum people are throwing is uncalled for... We aren't toddlers.

From all the speculation... If they release a basic doll in a different color without the extras that made the limited so 'special' then I don't see the reason to go crazy.

We're adults. We should act like adults.

    4. Yeah, after all this, it wouldn't surprise me if they never released another version of any Soom MDs. -_- I wonder if people are flipping out on the other language boards about this (and on the Japanese board for Soom), just curious. But I can't speak anything except English (and Texan...) so I can't check.

Edit: Ah, I didn't know there was no commentary on the Japanese Soom site. :) Never checked these things, you see.

    5. There is no Japanese board for Soom.

    6. The way I see it is this:

      1. I'm willing to shell out $xxx amount of money for Sard hooves on the secondary market. I KNOW that it is overpriced, and I am willing to spend that amount of money. I have made that choice.

If a month later, Soom decides to rerelease those parts for a single day - and they're at 10% of what I paid second hand - then so be it. It was my choice to pay that much. These are luxury items, folks. These companies owe us nothing. It was my decision to purchase these - so if I'm upset at anyone for shelling out more money for them than they're 'worth' - then that is technically ALL ON ME.

    7. I think it's very sad some of the comments being sent to Soom over this matter. : X

I would rather give my money to Soom (who actually made her) then a scalper, if I wanted this doll. And Beryl is still in demand after all!

It is nice to own limited dolls, but it doesn't bother me to know someone else has that doll too (or how/when they acquired it). Seems a strange way to look at things.

At the end of the day, dolls are nice, pretty things to have about the house. Why make a nice hobby into something horrible by telling the dollmakers to go to hell?

    8. But it's not the same thing, right?

For example, you went in that store to get an iPhone. It's sold out & you are told it won't be sold again. A few YEARS later, the company re-release a very simplified version of this phone.

Perhaps not the same situation, but there are some similarities.

It's more then a different colour. This Beryl comes with nothing else from her Limited set!

    9. I wished people kicked up a riot with that oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, or the fact that Israël is attacking convoys in International waters.

    10. This could be so. But then again its going to happen anyway. If you dont like it dont buy Soom products anymore.
If you want to fight it out with Soom in court, be my guest.

I just wished people had the decency to put in a sound argument instead of spamming very shamefull comments on their site. They wouldnt dare doing it on DoA because of a banhammer you could get.
People get THIS worked up over a doll. There is more important things in life to get worked up about in my honest opinion.
World famine, human trade for sex-industries, war in serveral countries and nature disasters. You put your energy in the wrong cause then.

    11. Someone is threatening to sue? hahaha that's hilarious!!!!! I read some of the comments on SOOM's other dolls, psychotic springs to mind. I think there is a small contingent of very weird SOOM "fans" posting comments on their site, the shit they write is unbelivable, really aggressive and petulant, along the lines of "oh I don't like this doll it's not cute, it's hideous, I hate the joints, I hate the face etc etc". If they said that kind of stuff on DOA I'm pretty sure they'd get warnings. I say if you don't like the doll, just don't fking buy it but don't go abusing the talent!

    12. People are, just not on doll-related forums, where that would be seriously OT.

I'm going to expand this post because you're not the only one making that argument, and it's not fair to only respond to you. I'd just like to point out that none of us knows if people who are complaining (or outright flaming Soom) are completely unconcerned with greater issues in the world. Yes, there are horrific things in the world, but there are also small things in our lives that we want to talk about. Not talking about a doll company's business practices doesn't reduce any of the suffering in the world, I'm afraid.

I still feel like Soom was not perfectly honest here because they did tell customers they wouldn't re-release this sculpt, but I'm certainly not going to tell them where to go O_o;. Who knows, one day I may even buy a re-released doll (although the sculpts I like are around in the MP for reasonable prices, with the exception of Hati/Skoll) from Soom.

    13. I still want a Lazule, and he's basic going into limited soon... T.T
If SOOM re-release him in the future as MD... that would be awesome! *just kidding*

      Chill guys... chill... X3

    14. Oh my..just please calm down..this should be just an hobby..that would mean that should sweeten up our life..not embitter...com'on people..just keep the feet on the ground.

    15. Me too. ;)

I just skimmed the comments myself, and some are outrageous.

I don't feel bad for Soom though. Their stance seems clear with the title they gave Beryl. Basically, I think they expected this situation, and won't lose any sleep over it.

    16. In terms of value...

So, I'm not convinced that anything Beryl-related is necessarily going to drive down the value of the MD release... Volks Williams, for instance, has had two types of re-releases in quick succession, the SD17 release (which, okay, was super-hard to get), and the limited SD13 run at the next NY Dolpa. Trawling the marketplace... his head (of any release: 2006, one-offs, SD17, etc.) is quite frequently going for MORE than his fullset used to go, a couple of years back. I was chatting about this with a friend who mentioned it happened to another LE doll that had just been scheduled with a re-release, too.

This struck me as a bit odd, but who knows... don't write off your Beryls as devalued, though... the only thing that'll determine her aftermarket value is going to be... the aftermarket! ^^

    17. Oh I just thought of something, someone else has probably posted this and I missed it but: People are saying nasty things on SOOM's comments section so we know a small minority are verrrry angry, but what if a lot of people are pm-ing them begging them to re-issue the most wanted MDs in some form and they decided to do it for their fans regardless of their previous statement? I know I did this to Iplehouse with Kamau after he was released the 1st time, I begged on the Q&A section and also pmed them, and hinted strongly on this forum too - that they release him again in any form because I'd take him! People Power works ;D

    18. And can't 'people power' work in the opposite direction as well. Enough complaints about what they are doing and then hopefully they won't release the other LE MDs again.

    19. I'm sure they do market research before making any kind of business model changes, whether it be reviewing fan letters, Q&A board posts, forum threads, etc.

Usually the most disgruntled customers are also the loudest, and most companies realize by now that internet flaming is often times just a small minority of people who actually purchase their products :)

*Edit* If Beryl is being released as an experiment and sells well then they also have their answer.

    20. This. All the shrieking children in the world aren't going to make a whit of difference if she sells like crazy.
