1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If Soom released their monthly dolls as a basic line next year, how would you feel?

Jun 9, 2010

    1. I think it would be absolutely tragic if Soom were to let such angry, hateful comments as they've been left bully them into not doing what they want with their own business.

People on DoA have been (by and large) reasonable. But Soom aren't seeing our comments - they're seeing people being incredibly, and aggressively, rude and hateful to them on their own boards. I personally hope they completely write off the negative comments they are getting as coming from people who clearly don't value their company anyway, to be honest.

Also, I really do hope that everyone here who approves of Soom re-releasing Beryl takes a moment out of their day to send Soom some encouragement. It would be a real shame if they only see the anti-re-release side of this, and not the fact that the majority of people are either in favour of it, or mature enough to not hold it against them. Anyone hoping to see a NS Onyx or Topaz, or any other sculpt, be resurrected, make sure you let Soom know that you support them :)

    2. Well the opposite is true too--If Beryl sellls well but their MDs sales drop like a stone, they will probably react accordingly to whatever works towards their best interest. I think this is truly an experimental stage for them.

Also--There isn't a whole lot we can tell from this Beryl from just the one picture. I think it will make a pretty big difference if she's a Gem sized and not Super Gem, if she has the fantasy ears or not, etc.

It really does seem kinda early to tell 100% what's going to happen with what little we know so far.

    3. I for one would be SO EXCITED if they offered some monthlies as basics. I didn't go through and read all the crying and apparent meanness in this thread so I have probably missed this being pointed out already or I could be totally misunderstanding it but as a basic it would still be different then the MD's right cause...no animal parts?!? So those who bought the MD when it came out oron the second hand market, or even those who paid the scalpers and got...yanno..scalped....still have something super special and the rest of us who think Amber would look amazing as just a human or those who would love to own an Io can do so.

I think it is amazing that Soom is considering doing this and I really hope they ignore the whiny and just do it cause seriously it would make them money and make people like me who look at the MD's that came out before I even knew BJD's existed and feel like screaming cause they missed out feel better.

    4. Ditto also money dosen't stink.
Besides i'm quite happy that soom give opportunity to severals to buy agin Beryl,in very different form, size,or resin color.

    5. I hope there are no repercussions to DOA because of the actions of some of it's members....I love this forum and have literally only missed a couple of days of logging in since joining in 2008. I don't wish to take away the right for members to have their own opinions and viewpoints on the 'Beryl' issue, but am severely dismayed that some of the language used, was more emotional than articulate....

The point I'm trying to make is like this: when I was at secondary school, it was made very clear to us that we represented the school and any bad feedback as such would be dealt with severely. Of course, the SOOM web page is nothing to do with DOA, but it's obvious that a large number of it's members are posting comments....I'm just saying, if you are a member of this wonderful forum, IMO, the best bjd forum there is, please at least try to post your comments constructively and articulately on doll shop websites....lets not besmirch the name of DOA and it's members at least. :)

    6. Again what I keep seeing is a bunch of people who are finally able to get a doll they couldn't afford, and everyone else be damned because they are getting what they want.

No one cares for the person/people who originally saved up, went into debt, ate top ramen for a month+ so they could get Beryl when it originally came out, because they were lead to believe BY THE COMPANY that this was their one and only chance. If Soom had stated, 'we may consider a re-release' in the future, it would have been fine. But no, back when Beryl was first for sale, Soom said most explicatedly there would be no re-release any way/shape/form.

So what your telling me it's okay for the company to manipulate people into a 'buy now or I'll never get it' mode is okay. A false mode after all, obviouslly done to sell product. And so now you have the re-release and it's okay because well they are company to make a profit and allowed to lied to their customers.

Don't people see the problem isn't just about Beryl but a company revealing themselves to not care about their customers and only profits. Yeah maybe people should have expected it, but it had seemed for years that the company was noble and wouldn't do this, but then they go and change. So there is anger.

Iplehouse and Soom have been very popular for the last few years. But when Iplehouse released a LE doll, same as Soom released one, with Iplehouse you were rather sure they would re-release a standard edition of their LE doll. But with Soom, it SEEMED your only chance was right then and there. So with limited funds which doll do you pick up? You obviouslly get the Soom doll, because there will be future oppertunities for the Iplehouse one. But wait...now your telling me I didn't have to make that choice, I could have gotten the Iplehouse LE doll which I really would have prefered the outfit for, because Soom was going to re-release their LE doll. (Note: The 'mold' / 'face' being the important part why you liked the doll not all the extras, however as mentioned the Iplehouse extras would have been nice to have just not must have). The company/Soom manipulated me into spending my money now when I could have just waited for a re-release?

    7. It would be more than okay with me if they sold their MDs as basics. I have been wanting a beautiful Super Gem for my Chrom. I'm waiting to see if they re-release Amber as a basic. I love her sweet expression.

I have spent a lot on limited dolls and I have a wonderful collection of BJDs, but I've come to think that "limited" doesn't really exist. My LE 10 Dollmore Thistle Lusion really isn't any different than any other Lusion except for her clothes, for example. This thought is fine with me.

    8. vampireanneke... >.> it's an LE Beryl. Not a basic one. An Limited Edition. A normal human one, but LE. And MD Beryl is not the same with this one. Just like many people had stated before, SARD NS is just a Dia boy. =_= Dia is a basic, SARD is an MD. Soom just announced they're going to have an event where people can buy "another" LE Beryl, who doesn't fall into the MD category. And can you tell me which MD that Soom had said would never be reproduced again? The MD Beryl? The one with fantasy parts and special make up and special outfit and special wig? >.> They haven't released any of that one, except for the Lottery Event. Did people get angry at them when they made the event? No. So why all the fuss now? When they release a Beryl which is not even the same as the MD Beryl? >.> If you all pay attention closely, this Beryl is an EVENT. =_= SPECIAL EVENT DOLL. Not basics!!!

    9. @vampireanneke, we don't even know whether this is a basic yet, and besides that, if you were to have bought an original beryl without any extras, and sold off fantasy parts, I doubt she would have been much more expensive from the company than this doll is going to be. Furthermore, it is not the fault of soom if a person had to live off top ramen for a month or go into debt so they could buy something they couldn't actually afford.

    10. AGAIN: Don't people see the problem isn't just about Beryl but a company revealing themselves to not care about their customers and only profits. Yeah maybe people should have expected it, but it had seemed for years that the company was noble and wouldn't do this, but then they go and change. So there is anger.

Frankly I don't care, I don't have Beryl (bought her originally, sold her off), not buying the new one. I just understand why people are angry, and they have every right to be. They shouldn't take it out on the company, but you can't tell these people 'no don't be angry, you have no right to'. Yeah maybe it's the buyer's fault for assuming but the company DID represent themselves as not doing Re-releases.

    11. Ah, I was referring to vampireanneke's comment. ^_^;;
I think what Soom is doing is fine, myself! Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying too?

I would rather people who missed out had the chance to get her. No one should be going into debt & not eating properly for a doll. That sounds unhealthy.

    12.
    13. 1. Your key word is "seemed". Has Soom actually said "we're never ever releasing Beryl again"?
      2. This isn't your opportunity to get Beryl again. This Beryl is a NS human. The original Beryl was a WS demon. They're two different dolls. This isn't a true re-release.
      3. Soom has already proven they're willing to re-release complete, older MDs again. Remember the NS Sards? Which leads me to....
      4. Beryl was originally released in 2008. It's now 2010. Things change. At that point Soom was just beginning to test the fantasy waters. I imagine if Beryl (or the entire MD line) had sank we wouldn't be seeing her again.
      5. Most importantly, Soom is a company. Companies make money. They do so by listening to your opinions, true. But they only do that so they can make more money.

    14. in 2007: sabik was a monthly LE twice. spinel was a monthy LE.
in 2008: vega was a monthly LE. deneb was a monthly LE. sard was a monthly LE.

all of these dolls took their turns as being "monthy stars" and each of them was/has been available for however long as "regular dolls".

i find the most hysterical thing in the world and i am sure soom is joining me in the laughter that the beloved "sardSARDsard" is 'dia' . it has always been dia. and: "a rose by any other name still smells like resin" . helllllllo people..... wake up! 'rose queen dia' folks.

beryl: "love me or die" . soom is rolling on the floor laughing over you guys. it is totally time you got with the program and joined in the fun.

    15. I so completely and totally agree with you, I can understand some of the anger but people are being such B-Stards! That's why I just let my increasing anger at these people get the better of me and went and posted a fiery blast at them on that site in defence of SOOM...:blush

    16. That's all true, Cat. LOL on the rose comment...

The only thing we know about Beryl's special release is that the numbers of those who order from DoA will tell us SOMETHING. And again: If you chose to save your pennies, and eat ramen for months ---- well, that was your decision. No one is twisting your arm to buy a company's dolls.

You know, all this anger and resentment towards her is actually making her more appealing. Who knew one little Beryl could stir up so much controversy...

    17. Really? Really truly and for serious? :?

I could have bought the original at the time. Decided not to. Regret that. Still plan on doing so when the finances are in order, and there's one available somewhere. It's not something I've made a major priority, then or now, or I would have it by now. I mean, seriously. To be utterly blunt about it, what's currently listed in my sig alone in terms of financial investment should make it pretty dang clear that if a $2500+ Beryl was the answer to all my dreams, it'd happen, or would have already.

That has not changed a single bit with this release.

I might get this one if I can afford it, but that's uncertain, and really, if I miss this one, I'm not going to lose much sleep over it at all.

Personally, I don't see this as the same doll in any way. It's not a succubus from what I can see. It's not in the same skintone. It doesn't have the same faceup, does not appear to have the same clothing or even the same style (fantasy) as the MD version. It doesn't appear to have the fantasy parts, even the eyes and wig are different.

Why is it that other companies can release a limited doll that is just limited by faceup or skin color or costume, but heaven forfend Soom makes a doll with a MD head mold that is otherwise entirely different? Why is the sky falling here when it isn't on Volks, or Luts, or Dollmore? I don't see people screaming bloody murder about how the collectors don't care about other collectors when Dollmore releases yet another version of their "limited" sculpts in a new resin color, or reinterpretation.

People buying this doll are not getting the same items the people who purchased the MD did from what we can see of the item.

Why is it OK to shriek like rabid dogs at Soom to their faces in ways that are better suited to a flame forum or a child's temper tantrum? There is no justification for that sort of behavior, and it does reflect on all of us. So, really, when thinking about what is truly selfish, think about the people who can't be bothered to control their verbal venom enough to behave like civilized people.

Because what we clearly want is Soom to just get so annoyed with the abuse the international market hurls at them regularly that they stop selling to us, right? Right? That's gotta be what we want with the way some of us are behaving. That'd make everybody happy, right? Then those people who couldn't afford it back then won't get any dolls, and that will just be fantastic!

      ...or not. At all.

    18. Is true. She was the first hooved doll they released, and I remember at the time, it REALLY boosted Soom's popularity. Somany people went nuts about her (and then Sard followed, and then the rest is monthly history, haha...)

Somebody else (do forgive me, I can't recall who...) suggested earlier in the thread that the person replying to the Q&As, i.e. "Will Beryl ever be released again", might just have been the extent of their knowledge regarding the doll at the time. It could also have been lost in translation. Having seen some of Soom's former apology notices, their English is good but not crystal clear, I'm sure others would agree. They could have assumed the questioner was, indeed, asking if the Beryl Neverending Dream set was to be released again... to which the answer was no. (And still is "no.") I mean, who knows what happened? They might even be under new management between then and now. I dunno.

I think there's quite possibly more to this than just assuming Soom was being deceptive and out to rob your monies.

That would truly be terrible and I really hope that doesn't happen. I think Soom gets these sorts of reactions frequently (though not quite as violently as this) with most monthly releases. The comments under the product are usually along the lines of "Omg I love him/her" followed by someone else saying "Omg why didn't you make it with a dragon tail/better face/nicer resin colour/WHAT I WANTED IT TO BE" etc., etc. ... repeat. I hope they are able to shake this one off too.

    19. wow! i hope they do. i would not be upset in the least if everyone was running around with human versions of the limited dolls i have bought from soom (there aready are alot of the doll i had (amber),even more of the one i kept (heliot)

i always feel bad seeing people who want a heliot SO badly. i would love for them to have a human version

and for my own happiness i would be overjoyed if i could get my hands on beryl sard IO and topaz, human or not, because i love their faces so much.

i guess i feel like this because to me it doesn't matter if i paid more for my doll. he was limited. i dont think this beryl is going to come out with horns and hooves. so the people who got neverending dream beryl still got something special, and something limited. and i know the dolls im dying to get, i would be happy with a human version i might still want the fantasy but human version is better than no version.

    20. Thank you. I agree 100%
