It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. If Soom released their monthly dolls as a basic line next year, how would you feel?

Jun 9, 2010

    1. i would laugh. and laugh. and laugh.

      and then buy a monzo ;;

    2. It seems like people are forgetting that Soom did not create the second hand value of these dolls, WE did. The 2nd hand value doesn't affect them at all.

    3. I feel exactly the same way about all of this. I feel lucky to have snagged a Bix quite recently, but I wouldn't feel any less lucky if he were re-released. I have no plans to sell any of them, and I no longer expect dolls to hold their value on the secondhand market.
All of my Soom MDs are just humans, so other than my Onyx girls being white and grey there isn't much difference in what they'd release in the future if they made human versions. I don't see how the basic human versions are the same as the limited special versions, nor do I think that they will kill the resale value of the limiteds that are sold default. And I'd love the opportunity to own twin NS Amber human boys! :love

    4. Yes your doll would still be limited and special. The only way it would no longer be LE and special is if they rereleased the entire package -- fantasy parts, blushing, faceups, wigs, skintone, etc as basic dolls. That's not what's happening, and quite frankly, I doubt it would even be feasible to do that. It's not just the sculpts that make limited dolls limited.

    5. i would be thrilled, because then you could buy the doll in different skin tones, e.c.t. and if a certain sculpt you loved but couldn't get as a MD came out, then you could buy it.

    6. Ok whatever they are doing with the new Beryl.... I wish they would just tell us already!

    7. I personally wouldn't mind one little bit, it'd be lovely to see people who just didn't have the funds at the time or weren't into the hobby get one of these old limiteds instead of having to sell various internal organs to get them off the marketplace.

But I do understand that others may get very annoyed- I know some people specifically collect limiteds, others- those who sold their kidneys to get them off the marketplace would be quite annoyed too (though I agree with your point on that, Kurokami). I can sympathise with those who would get annoyed.

I WOULD mind personally if they brought them out cheaper than the originals (meaning if they brought them out with fantasy parts and all... if they brought them out basic, it's pretty logical they'd be cheaper), that would be rather unfair on everyone who'd bought one. I wasn't too put out financially in getting my Appini, but I know a lot of people really scrimped, begged parents, friends, family spouses, signifigant others etc. to get the money together, and if (not saying the will) they were cheaper, that would be quite unpleasant.

Though to the actual question of if I thought it was a dishonest thing to do... yes, I'm afraid to say I do see it as dishonest, whether I actually MIND the idea or not.
I guess if they brought them out as basics it could be seen as more of a little white lie, but if they brought them out with their fantasy options and everything...

One question though... What the hell ARE Soom thinking? First they drop the Gems, then the WTFery with the Idealian, now the Super Gems are going. Then there's two new sizes with the Monzo and the Aphan, now there's the rather confusing limited (is it? Does anyone know what's going on with it?) Beryl... Who's back to the now-removed Gem size.

    8. I am thrilled - THRILLED! - at the idea that IO and Sard might be be back in glorious unlimited quantities!!!! It's one of the more exciting developments in the hobby in a long time!

    9. I am going to have an imperial army of Cuprits... and they will take over the world.

    10. Ditto to that, except it will be the tinies! I'd kill for a decently-priced Hati/Skoll!

    11. Well... it will so good for the people that doesn´t had any ^^

but for the people who spends a lot in a doll that is limited & don´t whant the fantasy parts (basic are without this parts, and you can seet sometimes only that parts on the marketplace) I supose that feels angry U.u

    12. I think they're going through a possibly total overhaul that's going to take them a year to three to do. It's a little odd to see them taking down lines, but maybe they just don't have the space for all the molds/casting areas in the warehouse? I think it's a thought-out overhaul that is looking really clumsy to us since we can't see what they're planning.

    13. I strongly disagree with your statement... if you sell off the fantasy parts either through a split or on the MP, you end up with a VERY cheap doll. Most likely cheaper than what SOOM will charge.

For example: We'll use Glot for this first example... I'm using aftermarket price assumptions btw.

ALSO! I come to the head/body price after subtracting all the other prices! This is assuming you sell off all parts except the body and head!

Blank Doll from Soom: $327 (I'm not including shipping, fluctuates too much between buyers)
      Body with Head: $162
      Horns: $20
      Resin Wings: $20
Hooves: $125 (We'll go about mid-range for these)

Looking at the price for just the blank head with body... wouldn't you say that's pretty darn cheap? I don't see how you can call that 'a lot of money'.

      Next, let's use Beyla...

      Blank Doll: $327
Doll OE Head and Body: $107
      Horned Head: $80
      Cutie Hands: $20
      Tail: $20
      Hooves: $100

Wow... $107? That's cheaper than a blank puki! You can't tell me that $107 for a doll is 'a lot of money'. It's even cheaper than the BBB/RS MSDs!!

I'd do the larger MDs, but as I've never purchased one and don't watch the larger doll MP, I couldn't be able to accurately deconstruct proper values.

    14. I just can't believe that some people don't understand that this new Beryl IS NOT the same Beryl from two years ago. She's a total different version so Soom didn't lied about not releasing the MD's again.

Also, even if people who have the MD's and sold the fantasy parts, still have a limited doll because they are white, grey or tan skin and some have fantasy ears (well, I think Chrom was normal skin, but one of his heads have wolf ears).

I think this new realease is awesome and will benefit a lot of people. I just started to save up for an Amber one month ago so if Soom releases human Amber in the next months, I'm sure it will help me a lot cause maybe people that have Amber, but always wanted a human one, will sell their fawns to get her and I will be able to get my dream doll (though I will may consider buying the human Amber). I know the price is so high, but what can I do? I'm totally Soom'ed by fawn Amber, she's my holy grail :doh

    15. For Tallenvyare (and others interested):
I bought one of the big dolls and sold off all the parts, except for the head.

      Soom Topaz:
      Originally purchased for $850(ish)
      Including:
      Faceup, Wig, Eyes

Sold: (these were sold on the marketplace between March 09~April/May10)
      Fairy Parts: $190
      Wig: $40
      Eyes: $35
      Body: $400

So in the end I paid about $185 for my girls head(this is including the price of the faceup). I bought her a new body (Iplehouse EID) for $350.. So total my "limited" girl cost me: $535 which is over $100 less than what she was originally selling for blank on Soom, and still less than what a standard Super Gem would have cost. If I would have kept the original body it would still be less than what she normally cost, and only $1 more than a standard super gem. I know this won't apply to everyone who purchased a MD but here's a good example of why the fantasy parts are what makes it so much more

    16. I think:

For people who do NOT own MD's already, they would be pretty pleased because they would be finally presented with an opportunity to get one, if they wanted one.

For people who DO own an MD: they would probably be upset because it would take away from the sentimental value of their doll being limited edition, and it might make thm feel as if their doll were less special.
These are just my thoughts, I'm not saying everyone feels this way.

    17. I just don't understand why this matters. Soom is trying out some new ideas. Good for them! They're probably getting really bored with the cookie-cutter fantasy thing. Lucky for us, all we have to do is sit back and wait for the next doll announcement. ;)

    18. The thing that really confuses me is this: people buy a limited doll, then they sell off all the parts that makes it limited and then they complain that it's too much like the basic?

If one would take a Volks limited Megu, sold the outfit and wiped the face would it really then be alright to complain to Volks because she then is hard to tell from the basic version?

People who have a basic soom made up of limited parts chose to do so, it's not sooms nor anybody elses fault.

    19. This.

It's embarrassing to see the nasty comments left on Soom's site with every monthly doll. Comments like these make it look like the hobby is filled with entitled, spoiled brats.

Don't like it? Don't buy it. Or better yet, make your own.

    20. You misunderstand my question, it's not a critisism, it's more of a "Huh? RANDOM" puzzlement. Business wise it's quite self destructively nuts. They're a great company, I'm just stumped at why any business would do this to themselves.
