If you could make a diorama/room for your doll, how would it look?

    1. This is truly inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, ResinRapture.:D

    2. Thank you, @PoeticSoul . Maybe one of the tutorials can be helpful to built your own furniture.

    3. I have a whole room in basement of our home just for my dolls and all their stuff as well as the other things I collect. While I do have two spaces set up like rooms on shelves for my dolls after seeing the video below on YouTube I would love to do something like this very much, but right now not a good time. Maybe one day.

    4. In my doll story, one of my boys is an archeologist who works for the British Museum. I had wanted to make a diorama of his office. I got the shell partly made, and that's as far as I got before life got in the way and I had to set the project aside. I do try to collect props for the room, but haven't got many yet. I would probably make most things, including furniture. I used to be in the dollhouse hobby and made my own furniture and props for that.
Part of the problem is lack of space. My dolls are mostly 1/3 scale and a diorama would be quite large.

Another idea for a doll room would be a child's bedroom for my YOSD Dylan (5 Star Doll Rex) with a theme of frogs. I do have quite a few props and the supplies to make his furniture, but have not created the room box yet. Considering the space I have in my room, this size of diorama would be more do-able.

    5. I collect mostly Littles. I have made them a room that looks like a daycare. it is almost as much fun collecting their little accessories as it is collecting the dolls!

    6. When I properly have my own place, I plan on having an area dedicated to some dioramas but right now there's just too many places where the cats could get to. But when I do...

      Oliver
will have a typical little kid bedroom with How to Train Your Dragon/Adventure Time/Minecraft posters and merch. (Login โ€ข Instagram)
Ailwyn will have a covered wagon with a celestial fortune teller theme, lots of blues and gold.
Bronah would have a small farm plot.
Nathaniel, I don't know what he would really have. Maybe the front room to his apothecary.
Mila would have her bedroom and it'd be pink and magical girl/fairy type Pokรฉmon themed.
Akito would have a small Shinto shrine.
Chou would have the front to her bakery.
รsa might just have a wintery forest themed area. Like Bronah, she's more comfortable outside so it'd be something simple.

      For my incoming dolls...
Mitzi Mae would have a little witchy bedroom
Red (a.k.a. Little Red Riding Hood) would have another forest themed area but more late summer/early fall. Hmm... Maybe connect Bronah's plot as being summer, then lead into Red's forest as fall, then รsa for winter...
Kazuhito would be one my most intense project that I had planned-- The interior to a Pokรฉmon Center, complete with working lights.

One of these days I'd like to see about setting up some of these. Maybe I could rearrange things in my work room to do at least one or two of these...

    7. I would do a fantasy room like stone castle with tree roots or Indian/Arabian room with a lot of beautiful fabric, bed and golden lamp :love

    8. Vince: If I made a roombox/diorama for him, it would have mostly a 'playroom' vibe, though I'd put a wardrobe for his clothes in the corner. It would look very dollhouse-y rather than an attempt at realism, since that suits his character.

Pete and Billy: Bunk beds, funky colors, shelves... a place to display toys, for Billy, and maybe a clothing rack for Pete's stuff to have his clothes be visible, and some doll-scale video game stuff for him. Little posters on their walls.

Marigold: if I could do one room scaled to Mari, it would be a cozy autumn cottage kitchen-- she'd have jars of jam and pickles and a little loaf of bread and some pumpkins out on her counters... Or, an open concept space that's part kitchen but also has a window seat and some bookshelves. A little apron hanging up, and maybe some throw pillows and a 'view' out the window of her forest.

Party Martian: I haven't really considered making him a room box, he's small enough that I can set up a diorama for him on my bookshelf... but in an ideal world, I'd love to do a fun, brightly-colored spaceship interior.

Jack: I definitely want to build him his fantasy library retreat. I have the velvet sofa, just need a roombox with bookshelves, and more books to stick in there, ideally a little writing desk.

Deanna: I'd want to do a flexible space to work with different settings I'd want to photograph her in-- switch out props to change between a modern cabin getaway vs a fantasy/historical cottage! Just a basic room with a fireplace that I could add or remove furniture and set dressing in. But I'd also love to make her (and the rest of the fantasy adventuring party) an outdoor diorama where the horses can go.

I've got a couple of floating heads right now-- one of them will someday get a body and a bookshop (might be sharing the library set but with some minor changes to set dressing, for that), the other... if I did someday have the space to get my big guy a body, I would like to give him a set-- either a kitchen or a bedroom, or a larger-scale library... he wouldn't be able to share much with the 1/4 scale gang but their biggest books could always become his.

    9. I have had this up before, but had to take it down due to lack of space. Then I thinned out a LOT of my dolls and working on the stuff as well. So now I have this set up for my one girl doll and I am very happy I can easily change the walls as I get better at making them. They are just paint canvases from Michaels that I either left blank or painted for a unique look.
***WARNING*** Don't get to big a canvas as I bought a huge one and after painting it a solid color it warped and is not flat at all. I would have to screw into wall so it could be flush. Instead I use nothing bigger then 36 by 24. I am hoping I can put together something better, but for now it works and wasn't costly.

    10. I am in love with fantasy style , as forest with butterflies and birds and stuff like these , or ice with crystals and snow for a snow queen .

    11. In an ideal situation, I'd make a bunch of several different dolls.
For Orsino, I'd make a diorama for his mages' quarters in the Gallows. I'd like to also make some kind of deep forest diorama for him and Falhen. I've got an alternate storyline in my head where Orsino survived the Rite of Annulment (as he was originally meant to with the right choices before the excess on high declared another boss was needed).
For Isak and Weizhong I could set up a nice Chinese style scene since they don't have a solid space yet.
I want to make Logan's in-game throne, and the diorama could just be his throne room, but I would like to also make his private apartments for more casual scenes.
For Mamoset and Ashera I'd make their home from earlier in their lives. It'd be a very ancient Mesopotamian/Egyptian home. And I could also pose Heru in there when I get him in.
Once Thrawn comes in I'd make a couple of Empire starship dioramas, a command center, private quarters again, maybe a Palpatine style throne.
Sir Thomas needs his workshop, and his and Edith's rooms, not making anything to with Lucille; never ever! Sir Thomas and Edith can be happy together without that crazy-ass, besides if anything is an invitation to a Chucky situation it's having those three together.
That just leaves Julian Devorak and I'm not sure what to make for him. Maybe just the Magic shop and its living space upstairs.

    12. Two of them are best friends that live in a sort of fantasy/fairytale world, so I would love to someday make them a tiny enchanted forest! More details would include a pretty little swing with vines wrapped around it, hanging from one of the trees!

My other doll (I only have three owned/planned so far) modern university student (kinda a self insert doll haha). His aesthetic is like a pastel gamer boy, and so a light coloured dorm room would be adorable!

Butttt I don't know where to even start lolol, and even if I did, I have no room to put them anywhere!! Ahhhh I can only dream of dioramas until I'm living alone and actually have space haha

    13. I finally got diorama space! Now to figure out the right combination of furniture and props.

    14. I'm definitely planning on some kind of magical workspace for my current incoming BJDs as they are both witches! Herbs, crystals, etc. Plus I've been eyeing those little cauldrons that are for burning incense since forever LOL.

Otherwise, I will probably focus on dioramas where I can pose them together, like a tea table or a couch, or give them things to do, like watch TV or use the computer. I think it would make me smile to have everybody look relaxed and cozy and having fun!

I'd also like to have some kind of collapsible diorama I can stash away easily - I've seen people here say they use dolls as seasonal decor, and I love that idea! I would love my dolls to have a little Christmas tree and fireplace or something! Plus, when I go on vacation... I seem to think my dolls are going to get lonely, so I give them something to do while I'm away... :XD: maybe I could turn that into another concept for a temporary doll space? Not sure.

    15. I don't have this diorama in display anymore because it took a lot of space and the MSD character who lived in it changed and it isn't one of my current dolls anymore, but I had a room with a wardrobe, a mirror, a desk with a chair, a nightstand and a bed. I had decorated the walls with wallpaper and also the floor to look like wood. I had bought small frames (for really small pictures) that I had filled with printed pictures and also a little lamp for the nightstand.
It was a good diorama but I didn't used it as much as I should have for it to be wasting that much space in my house.

    16. I've setup up several dioramas over the years as I like to do photo stories. I'll share two from an older, now defunct, story line.

Larger (really responsive so it depends on your screen size) photos here.

First up the living room. This was on display for many years. It was laid out 3/4s in the round so photos could be taken from several angles. There's another matching burgundy chair not pictured in this shot on the other side of the end table in the front left.

Next the kitchen, newer than the living room, but also on display for years. Sadly I could never find a 1/3 scale refrigerator so I used a 1/4 scale and called it a cheap apartment size fridge. :XD:

    17. Oh my goodness, man these take me back. :XD: Nice to see again.
Your sets were always a big inspiration to me starting out all those years ago with stories, and the beginning of having whole areas of my house slowly overtaken by doll sets year after year

To the thread question, made many dioramas over the years for inside sets and "external looking" ones, but the main area they use is always setup all year round.
It started as a focal point, easy to work with and easy for others to see-identify as our home. It evolved from just a simple look with homemade kotatsu and sofa into a much more homely surround, in a somewhat "modern retro" style.

This was from Christmas 2013 and early on in their journey. Just a very simple room.

Then this one was from Christmas just past, 2021. Always looks a lot more busy with decorations other than the rest of the year.

I still very much enjoy the look to it even though its rather old now haha :blush
Will try to find and some of the older pics of the dioramas I used for some of their bedrooms over the years. They were only temporary ones though that were disassembled after the story was done, and I felt like the story interactions with others had moved on. :)

    18. My ideal room for my dolls would be a combination room with a laboratory/ conservatory. Lots of plants and experiments going on as if someone had just walked away for a cup of coffee. Clutter and creative chaos flowing from every corner.

    19. I made a 1930's fisherman's cottage diorama for my Iplehouse JID Sierra.
