1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If you could see/want a positive BJD breakthrough...

Sep 15, 2006

    1. Increased flexibility of bodies - INCLUDING females who are designed to be able to sit crosslegged without popping their joints. :p It is terribly frustrating to me that an SDC girl has much less limited flexibility than an SDC boy.

      Also more spare parts.

    2. Try Dollmore! I buy all the boys' basics & separates there, and they're still very reasonable.

    3. I would like to see measurements included with the fashions. I would like to know what dolls can wear an outfit not generalizations. Another help would be to mention if the outfit is for a large or small busted doll.I would like to see the outfits displayed on dolls. How do I know what the outfit looks like if it is just laying there.
      8)

    4. I second the need for more cheap, basic clothes. Also, availability - stores in europe! Our Volks store is long overdue ;)

    5. Again, On clothing.....
Please do not compare BJD clothings to Walmart/ASDA
BJD clothes, even if its the simple, regular t-shirts and jeans, are not mass produced like Walmart/Asda and therefore will have FAR HIGHER production cost.
Its the same as if you decide to go to a specialised seamstress and commission your own t-shirts and Jeans

Also, there isn't a lot of patterns around for BJDs, so the seamstresses have to either draw their own or alter it from somewhere
That's not easy as you have to change it --> make test garments ---> Try it on --> Changeit until its a perfect fit.
I sew, and I've not even dare to attempt jeans/trousers yet.

SO STOP GOING ON ABOUT $5 T-Shirts and $20 Jeans
Seamstresses are not Walmart/ASDA and it doesn't work that way!!!!

    6. And this is the reason that even though I love making doll clothes (and will finally have a doll to show em off on soon) I can't see myself making them to sell in my shop. The take a long time to do, and are really really fiddly.

    7. It's impossible to apply Wal Mart logic to anything other than big box stores. Their quantities are HUGE and that plays a big part in the price, they get price breaks from manufacturers because of it, and they don't need to make as much profit on each item. In fact their model is based on selling huge quantities of items at lower profit margins per item to make their over all profit. This isn't a business model possible for an independent business, or anything with as small a market as BJD.

    8. Cheap clothes! But then the shipping makes them rather..cheap but not as cheap as before...$23 shipping on like $8 socks. I have to be frank, SUCKS.

    9. It would be nice to be able to choose shipping that's cheaper, not like super expensive EMS...especially when what you want isn't needed immediatly...

    10. Companies don't use EMS just for its speed, it's also one of the safest methods for shipping internationally.

    11. I think rather than 'cheap BJD clothing' (not going to happen for the reasons everyone else has mentioned), we should be wishing for more US doll stores! XD

Volks still charges an 8$ minimum shipping on anything from their US store, but that sure beats 20$+ for companies outside the US. (also, for the quality and detail of their outfits, the prices are very reasonable ;3)

Now, I'm not saying Luts and Dollmore and DoD, etc, should make stores in the US like Volks, because it's probably just not feasable for them. Volks is richer than God, which is why they managed to afford the rent in Torrence and Palos Verdes... XD

BUT, how about more stores like We Love Dolls that sell a greater range of products? :3 Now that would be nifty. I bought Roo's tea party outfit and clothes for my sister's Manabu from We Love Dolls, and not only was the shipping less expensive... but the clothing got to us within two days XD

    12. I take it from your frustration that you sew yourself. As I've said in my earlier post, I can understand wanting to make sure that individual artists are fairly compensated for their work. They put a lot of time and effort into making wonderful clothes, and it shows.

Just because something doesn't have a current set of mass product doesn't mean it's impossible. I'm sure, if someone wanted, he or she could invest in a set of machines to make simpler, more standardised plain outfits. After all, if clothing for 11.5 inch fashion dolls can be made in that way, it can be done for other dolls.

I highly doubt there would ever be as much diversity for BJD mass clothes as there is for the smaller fashion dolls, since there are so many different sizes of BJD, but it's not wholly inconceivable that aomething along those lines could be done. I doubt it would happen anytime soon, but not impossible.

    13. Duly noted...I was just mentioning it was speedy, not that that was chosen for that purpose.

    14. I wasn't going to comment any more on the clothes issue then I saw this.

Since there's so much of this discussion in a thread that has nothing to do with it I've started a new thread.

    15. I'd want, well, less loligothy and chav clothes and more classic style. I can't sew, my home ec teacher gave up in despair, and I would *kill* to be able to get an ABJD in severe tweed and horn-rimmed glasses, a riding suit or a twinset and pearls and sensible shoes, such as Barbie and Tonner dolls are beginning to provide. There's not enough catering for those of us who swoon over the English gentlewoman look.

Alos, with the people who would like cheaper lines, even if they meant a reduction in quality. The price is a major concern for me for ethical and religious reasons - I can never quite help comparing the price of a doll with, for example, the (comparatively tiny) cost of providing resources to people in the Third and Fourth World. It's not really in line with principles of Quaker simplicity, and it's causing a few internal conflicts to be even looking at getting one more doll, no matter how much I justify it with the doesn't smoke/drink/spend extravagantly on clothes so can afford one indulgence thing, because I could still actually do good with the saved money. It wouldn't be a sense of accomplishment from saving to me so much as *guilt*.

    16. Well Volks has already anticipated this desire by making Heath ;) Not to mention Iplehouse makes a lot of "gentleman" type outfits..

    17. Sounds to me like she's looking for a gentlewoman. Heath is lovely though. XD

    18. I could have sworn she said gentleman in that before too :sweat shouldn't reply when I have a headache..

    19. I know how that can be.
