1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Iffy auction?

May 5, 2007

    1. I did. They looked similar in the photos, and that's why I got my Kyrie out to look at her hands, but they're different enough for me to be comfortable. Like I said before, AOD hands look a lot more detailed, from those pictures, and I think the AOD fingers are shorter. I can't see whether or not they have the lines on the palms of the hands like Kyrie does, though. I'd have to see macro shots of the hands to decide.

    2. ClockworkAngel, while I know this has happened in the past, those scammers have taken known dolls athat are widely sought after. I've never seen a case where they tried to scam with all new completely unknown dolls?

I agree that everyone needs to use common sanse and caution but I don't think it's fair to automatically assume sellers with 0 feedback are untrustworthy. Everyone has to make their own decisions based on the info they receive and their comfort level, but I feel like now we are starting to get a better picture of what this company is about. They've made a lot of mistakes and have had communications problems but I still believe they are legit and it sounds like they are improving their communications and will have their international soon open for orders.
No one is forcing anyone to buy their dolls, but I think it's unfair to make these accusations without basis.

And I just don't get this bias against China and the perceived lack of quality. LOL! I've been told that many of the comapanies based in Korea actually send out their dolls to China for the resin and the same factories do the resin work for many different small compaines!

    3. Past experience, I guess. China has a bad rep of making cheap breakable toys and dolls. Also, they are well known for making cheap knock-offs of major brands (including BJDs!) and their lack of respect for international copyright laws.

    4. "Russian components, American components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!"
      -Lev Andropov, Armageddon ( 1998 )

that sums up my opinion on quality biases ;)

I agree, so many "American made" products are produced in China, then Assembled in the states, that it is very feasible that some companies in many countries including Korea and Japan do the same thing. (I am not saying they do, just that it is possible) let every company's product speak for itself, any country can cut costs.

    5. It's true that China has been synonymous for knock offs and cheap products, but without demand, there will be no supply. And guess where does China export most of their goods too?????? Without Chinese imports, I think I read somewhere, but don't quote me on this, we will be paying at least twice as much for over 50% of the products we use everyday. I think there are different types of BJD collectors out there. For those that quality and sculpt are of the ulmost importance, they should only shop with well established companies like Volks or Souldolls or Dollmore etc.. For those that are not willing or unable to pay the high price tag of $600.00, $ 800.00 or $1,000.00 and above, and are happy with lower priced but "somewhat comparable" BJDs, they can shop with the Chinese manufacturers. Now, "somewhat comparable" is a very subjective thing. What is comparable to me may not be comparable to you. Furthermore, one must bear in mind that you will never get a BMW with a Hyundai price tag.

    6. Ah, okay. Since you have actual Soom hands to look at instead of picutres, I'll trust your take on it then. :whee:

Oh, and just so everyone knows, I have nothing against Chinese companies. ^^; In fact, I'm buying a DZ boy at the end of the month! It was just all the mess-ups with the eBay auctions that made me a little suspicious in this specific case.

<_<...>_>...and I'm still eyeing that squinty-eyed 1/4 boy, whatever his name is...he's iiiiinteresting. XD

    7. Angel of Dream's international site is finally up and taking orders! :D

    8. It could be due to the angle of the pictures or the faceup. ^^ G2 has a slightly longer face and rounder eyes while G1's eyes are a little sharper. Their eye sizes are about the same though.

    9. Yes, but my old Plymouth Champ, which was a Dodge colt knock-off w/an asian made engine (one of the first many years ago), ran better and lasted longer than most of the better known, well made cars of the same era! It got 36mpg/city - when the standard of the time was 18-20mpg city.

My point being, you may not get the BMW, but you might be surprised to get a great well running car that works & does what you need it to do for the Hyundai price tag!

More metaphores.... some of the best books I've ever read were not by well-know authors and were purchased from the grocery store check-out line - but not all check-out line books were good. You take a chance and sometimes you are surprised.

I'm hoping this is what Dream of Angel will be! A great surprise!

Besides - it isn't the company or the price tag that makes the doll - it's the doll that floats your boat, or speaks to you itself...

    10. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one - they've got a 1/4th sculpt that's dead on for a character of mine. Providing all is well, this could be a very good turn of events.

    11. Mr. Zhang just informed me that he has sent out my two sample dolls today; If everything goes according to schedule, I should receive them in a week, When I do, I'll post pictures. I think he is sending me the 1/3 Ming and the 1/4 girl with the closed eyes.

In response to Pegapup's post - Perhaps you have not been following my journey with AOD on the forum, but I am not advocating for people not to buy Chinese BJDs. On the contrary, they are great alternatives for people not willing or not able to pay big bucks for ABJD. I think AOD produces really good dolls at excellent prices, and I agree with you that we should collect dolls based on the look and feel of the doll itself and not on the brand or the price tag. However, I don't want people to have unrealistic expectations, after all, a two hundred plus AOD will not be the same as a one thousand dollar Volks. Even Mr. Zhang stated himself that altough his dolls are worth every penny and more of their price tags, they are not yet in the same category (for a lack of better word) as the long and well established Volks and some of the Korean doll makers.

I am all for AOD, and I'm looking forward to receiving my dolls.

    12. Got my tracking number today. Will let everyone know when I receive my doll!

    13. O good, i can't wait to hear your thoughts and see some pics LadyFeather. How long will it take for him to arrive do you think?
      :)

    14. Well, he left China today so I suppose another 4-5 days, unless EMS has a slow boat from China doing the delivery

    15. Will you be doing the obligatory 'arrival' pics for us? I for one can't wait to see the first AoD doll here on DoA. I really hope he exceeds all you expecations LadyFeather.

    16. Congrats LadyFeather! Can't wait to see him!

    17. I found this on ebay and it seems kinda wierd. I've never heard of these dolls before. Has anyone ever seen these before? link

    18. Angel of Dream is a new company--there's a bunch of discussion threads floating around about them ^_^

    19. They are the ebay store for angel of dream dolls:
      http://www.angel-of-dream.com/
there are threads for them in the mini section, and the news section :)

    20. In another thread in this section they thought it was fishy that the company had photos of the wrong doll and a photo of the correct doll in one auction. But the listing got straightened out so the photos were all correct.

      Here is the thread:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135767

There has also been a recent announcement of the company's existence somewhere in News.
