Iffy auction?

I sent a message to them through ebay asking for the size of the doll Ming. That way they know that people looking on ebay have spotted the size difference.
As to the name similarity - even in the US it is not uncommon to have a new company choose a name similar to one well established to 'ride the coattails'. People will remember part of the name and find them 'by chance'.
As to Dollzone quality; even though off-topic here, I have 4 (Wing, Mo-Wen, Jing, Sis) and the resin is as nice as any other ABJD I own.

That'll be the encoding on the Chinese characters -- you probably don't have the Chinese language pack installed, or it would show up correctly. Sometimes they also show up as little boxes too...

No, it's not the encoding...at least not browser-wise. I set my browser to Chinese and it still had the '??' in there. If it's an encoding issue, it's on eBay's end...something to do with their system not being able to read the characters used for the address, perhaps....


...also, their eBay store now has a different background than their auctions, with a different name at the top: Honeyjulia. It also lists an eBay store at V-C-CUTE, but I can't find an existing store by that name....

Ming... makes me think of Yul Brynner (the youngest version) in King and I. In that black shirt, anyway. And part of it I think is his faceup, which is incredibly perfect for that face.

Can't say as I'm wild for the ears, but frankly there are few dolls whose ears I really like. Why is it that they always end up sticking straight out to the sides like side mirrors on a van? .... anyway, I'm anxious to find out the answer to the size question, along with everyone else.

 

I've been reading Angel of Dream's forums on their website (I'm Chinese, but it's a little hard for me since I don't read simplified). It seems they've been around for a while and only recently let their forum members name the dolls. Before that, they were referred to with numbers. I don't think they're associated with the Hotdollzone Ebay Seller at all.

I think the Hotdollzone person is just a scammer who jumped on this new company. Angel of Dream seems legit so far, and they even have a list of sculptors on their website.

All of the doll heads, save for two, are sculpted by different people. It seems that this is some sort of experimental group that's just starting out. According to their mission statement, they say that they're trying to create very Chinese, mature dolls that are different from other companies, but they haven't decided on a style yet. "Going their own way" for now, as one person put it on the boards. They also plan to branch out into the international market in the future. This place might be legit, but I don't feel comfortable with giving an opinion on this. Just so you know, I don't know why they're banned from other boards. I will say that the guy bodies are veeeeery nice.

Here are some links to picture-posts in their forum that might interest you guys. Especially since a few of them have much nicer photos than the site, though it doesn't seem like it would be very hard to get better pictures than their main site.

There were pictures of one with a Dollzone Shoyu, and the Shoyu was more yellow and darker in color. I don't know if that's due to yellowing or just resin color, though. Link! Plus, MiniFee Shiwoo head on the boy body. keiryobl: "色差很严重～～" The difference between the resin color is apparently very severe.

The owners are also regulars on the forum. I can't type in Chinese, so I can't contact them for you. Anyways, I think this Hotdollzone Ebay Seller just ruined their chances of going international and spoiled their reputation. She seems to be a petty scammer since she not only used the wrong photos, but also labelled them wrong. I do not know if they are legit or not. I'm just saying that it's possible, and that it would be nice if they were legit.

 

this is what the ebay seller is saying about Ming:
"Thank you for your question.This doll is 1/3 doll.
As many customer see 1/4 doll in AOD website(the site is being updating),we claim that 1/4 is our past edition for MING,now we develop 1/3 MING doll"

so I'm not sure what that means.

With all the questions about the ebay seller, I wish there was another site to buy from.

No prob! Added some more pictures too of some other dolls that weren't shown. They look a lot better in owner pictures than on the site. Though... some of those site photos are just weird as hell and tacky. Gah. And yes, it only takes one scammer to really scren people's opinion of dolls...

Edit: I might know why they're banned now. From the looks of this post, there are people claiming that the Angel of Dream 1/4 bodies are copies of the Dollzone 1/3 bodies. So now the forum members are pleading for a new body so that these accusations can be cleared up/stopped. And then someone added that the Angel of Dream bodies are more muscular/stronger-looking than the Dollzone bodies, meaning they're different.

I don't think it's copied. I think this is like the Abio Angel thing where people were pointing out how the bellies looked like Dream of Teen bellies, but the only similarities were human anatomy and similar joint system. I mean, one could argue that the Angel of Dream 1/4 bodies are also an altered version of the SuperDollfieCute if they wanted to. But it's not. So the same thing that happened here with the Abio Angels is now happening... in China regarding these new guys. Oh dear! The members are talking about how AoD has already made it clear that they didn't copy the bodies, but Dollzone still thinks so. Hence the banning on the Dollzone forum and possibly why they're banned on other sites. And someone gives an argument that we've been discussing before too: "1/4怎么可能翻1/3的模呢?"

"How can one directly steal a 1/4 body from a 1/3 body's mold?"

Also, according to a thread about resin match... they do match Dollzone-- both thewhite and normal skins. Which means that Shoyu from earlier was just an older one. But they suggested that the bigger heads would fit better. Oh, there's a thread about suggestions for changes in the molds, and one person asked for the heads to be more three-dimensional because the faces looked too flat. The owner replied that they're trying to make dolls with a Chinese flair, and a very three-dimensional face would result in a very western looking doll. And that they'll try the other suggestions.

On the tilted eye official photos, they also apologized and they said that they'll get to it soon. Right now they're too busy making more dolls to satisfy their forum members. (They're like one big happy family.)
