1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 15

Dec 23, 2020

    1. @IngieBee I will be going with a Granado Uriel head and an Impldoll TGB body. I wanted that hybrid in particular because I will be modeling my Bucky after his Bucharest look in Civil War. Sebastian Stan really bulked up for that film, and the bulky TGB body fit the bill. I'm using my Impldoll Chad body as a sewing model for now, since it's the same size--just a different color. Meant to take pictures for you guys of my most recent progress, but I wasn't able to this weekend. I have a project journal for him though, if you are interested.

@Iron_Dog Ah, I was talking about the top part of the shoulders, circled in red. The blue line is how most joints go (maybe not as deep), but as you can see in the image, it actually extends over the top part of the shoulder. I swear I saw a post somewhere were someone cut that part off, and made it more like a traditional joint/cup.

(I actually like how the upper arm is split in two (not shown in the image) because it allows him to move them across his chest easier. Yes, his arm is more of an oval than a circle, so when he swivels his arm, you can see the exposed edge... But if he's wearing long sleeves, it's not as visible. Still, not something you can't glue together, right? ^_^)

    2. @Thymeseer , Henry has so much personality, he's amazing!

    3. @Silver_Unicorn297 Ahhh, ok. In that case, I don't remember that conversation in the thread at all. Doesn't mean a thing though as I have a mind like a steel sieve; only the big chunks of info stay in it like my name, where I live, every exacting detail of all 69 dolls I own... You know, the critical things to survival.

    4. LOL, Iron_Dog and I can't remember my own children's names, LOL (but I got that from my Mom and her mom... well she had an excuse having had 12 children LOL)

    5. My mom had a total of 17 siblings (she was the oldest). The excuse there was that there was no TV at that time, winter in northern Ontario is loooong and her parents were good French-Canadian Roman Catholics.

    6. Wow, and I thought my Grandmother had a lot! I mean, you hear of men having a lot of kids, but that's because their wives didn't survive and they had to remarry, ROFL.

Oh my gosh, now I want to make a farming couple with a dozen kids! My grandma and grandpa and their 12 kids before Grandpa died (a year after last one was born) Grandpa was reportedly head over heels in love with Grandma :D I think I now have a theme to follow :D Now to choose who is who :D

    7. Not all survived past the 1 year birthday (crib death) and one of her sisters died in her early 20's from cystic fibrosis. There aren't many left right now as many of them are in their late 60's and into the 70's and quite a few of them smoked heavily. Cancer took several of them, too. I think when I was growing up there were 14 of them (my mom included). Each of them had 2 or 3 kids for the most part with the exception of 2 aunts and 2 uncles who had no kids (3 are/were mentally retarded and 1 was mentally unwell and unable to form lasting relationships). The maternal side of my family is huge and sprawling and I was related to about half of the small town I grew up in.

    8. Wow, that's so sad. All of mine grew up except the ones who died in the war. So even so they only had between 1 and 3 kids each, they stayed close and I have lots of lovely cousins that I love :) I may have only seen some a few times in my life due to distance, but the information connection is always there, news travels through our parents, and now there is social media which keeps us all connected. From Australia, California, Chicago, Milwaukee, Germany and sometime China :D Oh, Korea now too :D It's freakin amazing, you don't lose anyone when they leave home to go half way around the world, they're so easy to reach out and even facetime with :D

    9. Thank goodness for technology and unlimited long distance calling. That's the only connection right now for the Hubby and me. 1400km is a long distance under normal circumstances. Covid has made it nearly impossible for him to come home/me go there any time soon even without the current lockdown in effect in Ontario because of new air travel restrictions that are being hinted at being introduced even for inter-provincial travel.

Can we be done with this Covid thing yet? I haven't seen my husband since August 2019 (no, that's not a typo) and I only saw my friends once in 2020 for my b'day in September. I'm an introvert but this is getting ridiculous. And I want my damn doll from Impl and Covid is messing with that, too, damn it! And all you young whippersnappers better get off my lawn! *shakes fist*

    10. Well, I got an update email from my insurance, they said they have 9 million subscribers in California, and have been given 40,000 doses so far, LOL. Yah, this is gonna take a while :(

I thought your hubby got home! He's been away that long????!!!! OMGosh, I'm sorry!

    11. Nope, he's still there. And likely will be there for some time yet *sigh*. On the bright side that does mean I can have several of my dolls out sitting on the loveseat without freaking him out. I'll take the small victories where I can get them.

    12. @Iron_Dog I do NOT miss Northern Ontario at all for all the reasons listed...it me fras me much to hear the little old ladies coming in to work talking about the good old days when they could smoke indoors and beat their kids and the men went down the mines or to the lumber camps. Bah. I hope you can see hubby sooner than soon, I haven't seen my partner since 2018/9.

Last package to be mailed is always the first to arrive. Tony is back from his faceup and so mesmerizing even my mother and sister were impressed. I can't wait to get him back on his body, lightbulb head and all.

    13. @A Wee Tiefling Northern Ontario towns are... interesting and a totally different way of living/life style than being in southern Ontario. When he can get out of there depends a lot on getting all the stuff in the house sold and the selling of the house, too. Covid and the attendant restrictions is severely hampering that. But it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about lockdown orders and the like.

Ohhhh, newly painted dolly! Please do share when you get the time. I need to update the pics I have of Kulfi and his partners since Rhyia is wearing a new to him wig that I'll have to fight him to death to get off him and pry it from his cold, dead hands.

    14. Oh yes, @A Wee Tiefling , Oh, I want to see TONY!!!! OMGosh, sounds awesome!

    15. No, no he is most definitely not a ginger, but this was the only wig to fit his lightbulb head. Ugh. I can't stand it. He looks terrible with this haircut! It's against regulations!

    16. What a handsome face, congrats!

I hope those of you who are separated from your loved ones due to Covid can see them again soon.

    17. I agree, he's hunky, but I must say, unfortunately, I am not happy with most wigs on my boys and am going to be making them wigs. Actually, I need to work on my Eclipse's wig again. I don't know why it takes me so long, I just am afraid to touch the expensive alpaca :doh

      • x 1
    18. @IngieBee Yeah, expensive alpaca is one more reason for me to pay experts to make wigs. This hobby is already bad without me shilling out for crummy wigs. Speaking of crummy wigs, ol' Lightbulb Head (who's canonical nickname is Commander Bubblehead so this is oddly prescient) has borrowed his husband's wig and suits being a sea-bleached blond.

@Iron_Dog ahhh the COVID restrictions...Wal-Mart? OK! Library? Heck no!

    19. @A Wee Tiefling That wig looks really good on him. Somebody had better keep a strong grip on it or it will get snatched away.

I'm glad that I went the route of purchasing a grab bag of mohair (on pelt) to practice making hard cap wigs. The entire bag was something like $20US and there was a nice variety of colours to play with. If you got creative (which I did) there were pieces of a suitable size for making a sewn wig although it would need to be a multi-colour one for MSD/SD sized heads.

I snipped the mohair from the pelt as close to the skin as I could and then glued those snippets to the hard caps I made. Considering that it was the first time I'd ever tried to do a hard cap, I'm pleased with the results. The center part is where I need to improve (like a lot) but I think that's the hardest part to do. Cutting from the pelt and gluing on a hard cap also used a lot less mohair than I thought it would.

    20. @Iron_Dog He's a bit of a wig-snatching queen, but it's still "against regulations" and ghods forbid I put a commander of the space navy in something against regulations. He might get laughed at (by me) for having a lightbulb head! I desperately need to learn to make wigs so he can have natural sideburns.
