IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 15

Dec 23, 2020

    1. Folks, do any of you have the muscular female body, and if so, can you tell me about it? I thought I'd read somewhere it had posing issues, so I'd like to know if that is true, and if so, did you mod it in any way to improve the poseability?

    2. I got the big Idol size musculature body, and they gave me regular legs, which ruined everything for me. They never sent me replacements that they promised either. So I'm not happy about it. If It wasn't going to be like the picture they should have fixed the issue or shown in their pictures the regular legs. Certainly they should have told me something was wrong with the muscle legs! The plan was to especially show off those legs with her costume, now I have to hide them :(

Otherwise, she seems to pose the same as any other impldoll. I wish these companies wouldn't screw around like they do. Other than that and that they messed up my last order, they've been a great company. I just can't afford their mistakes and not getting what I paid for.

    3. I'm in the same boat re the legs on my muscular Idol body, it's irritating, to say the least. I've dragged my feet on getting mine's faceup done, reconfiguring her character bumped it down the priority list...
That said, she seems to pose well for her size and weight. Not in the same league as my LoongSoul dolls, but maybe a bit better than my big Soom girls, if that's any help

    4. Yah, I hate to complain. They send you stuff to "make up" for it, but I don't have a use for these other heads, or dolls, etc... and I still can't finish my Plaice! LOL. I think I may have gotten a darker body that might work for Plaice off the market place. I'll have to redo his faceup so I can darken his skin. It's a lot easier than trying to lighten his skin :P

    5. @Isabeau I have the Star muscular body and she poses alright! What kinds of poses are you looking for, I can maybe get a session done to demonstrate.

    6. For posing, I will say that due to their weight and ... mine are all strung tightly, their upper joint is hard to manipulate. I plan on trying to suede or loosen mine, but with it being a bit hard, if you're not strong enough, or if they are tight, they can seem stiff. I honestly think it's all due to weight and too tight strings. I want to redo all of mine with larger chord and looser stringing because larger chord can keep the tension just right, while smaller chords seem to be kept in a permanently over tensioned state. The problem here is that some points are constricting, like the neck. This is where I plan to maybe drill it open more, but I'm a lazy butt and have been planning this for years, but do I get it done? LOL take a guess :doh My MGB has been the easiest to make relaxed, but I want a tighter fit at the shoulders too, another thing I still have not done :doh

    7. Thanks all, for your input! I'm figuring on getting the Star body (with Aurora down the road a piece). Not really happy about the wrong legs thing. As far as posing goes, I'm pretty simple, just like my dolls to be able to sit straight up and stand solidly.

    8. @IngieBee In Massi I removed the torso stopper between his pelvis and biceps and he's been able to slouch and so forth much easier. I'm considering doing the same thing for Kitten (my Aurora) to make her torso free up.

@Isabeau I have no problems with standing Kitten. She's terrible at sitting though, she wants to lean back no matter how much I manipulate her thigh. She needs a chair or she'll faint backwards. Here's a photoshoot I did with her to get more natural torso movement.

    9. Welp, my Granado Uriel head came in, and while the head size looks fine against those broad Impldoll shoulders... the face looks way too small... So Bucky will be getting a Granado body...

But don't worry, I won't be leaving you guys. I still have my Beast (Impldoll Chad Beast). I still need to finish his pants, and hopefully make another outfit for him now that my pattern-making has gotten much better. ^_^ It is hard finding the right clothes for these huge guys.

I hope to either finish his tuffted beast hands, or find some larger Soom ones that might fit into his wrist joints (I dunno though; the Soom Phonolus knees were still too small for the Impldoll Idol knees, and I had to fill things in with epoxy).

    10. I'll probably give that a try @A Wee Tiefling when I do other modifications :) Thanks for reminding me, because I have a new body that's in pieces and I will try that before I put it together :D

That sounds ambitious @Silver_Unicorn297 . Did the knee end up working? Hands sound like they'll be really cool :D

    11. @IngieBee The knee ended up working beautifully! I filled the inside of the Impl knee with epoxy, then used the Soom knee to make an indent. Once it cured, I put the two parts together, then sanded the resin outside the Impl knee to merge with the Soom knee. Here is a progress shot, before I finished sanding, smoothing, and blushing everything:

(I dyed the Soom parts to have a base color, because I wanted the beast parts to fade from brown to gray. Having a dark brown base would help make any chipping less noticeable. I actually ended up fading the dye a bit with rubbing alcohol).

He stands pretty well, considering that he is made up of two different companies: (His wig poofed out a bit, oops)

Of course, the Soom parts made him even taller and even more heavy than he already was XD Not a biggie, since he is supposed to be my version of the Beast from the Beauty and the Beast fairytale.

And here he is getting all cozy on my bed and a better picture of my handmade, hand-dyed yarn wig (ignore the cat scratches):

    13. @IngieBee Aww thank you! Haha, yes, it was my welcome back project to the hobby after taking a long hiatus... But after seeing the sculpt, I just had to come back and get him, because he was p e r f e c t.

The best part about him is that I don't have to struggle with buying shoes for him ^_^

Does anyone here like to make clothes for their Impldolls? If so, I could share some of the tutorials that I used when drafting mine. They were really helpful! (I would share mine, but I don't know how accurate they are, what with seam allowances and all).

    14. @Silver_Unicorn297 , I'm learning how to use Valentina, the clothing pattern drafting program, but I still have to make adjustments to the patterns because they don't quite fit right. I made a sloper top for my MGB girl, but she needs another dart from arm to apex of bust. I want to get these right, then post them. Then you can watch the closet historian on youtube and discover the amazing outfits you can make with slopers!

    15. So I just got back home from a trip, and waiting for me is my Firlraen, and he's gorgeous, too cute to give away his body, which is maybe a bummer, but then I need more boys, so maybe not. Perhaps I'll have them share once in a while, but Plaice still needs a body :( I don't like his removable ears, mostly their placement. I want to change that but I don't want to ruin his faceup. So... maybe long hair for a while, LOL

    16. @Silver_Unicorn297 So sorry to hear the hybrid didn't work out (it's really difficult to have petite noggins). *hugs* I guess my Granado/Impl hybrid works because I style them with robes and long hair -- it's very forgiving of proportions, that way.

      Speaking of boys...

It's almost always the case that the girls get preferential treatment in my crew. And yet, I now have three 70cms, after finally landing a body from a local dealer who had some flawed Angell-Studio resin in stock. Between LoongSoul and Angell-Studio (literally), Impldoll is still the beefiest of the bunch. Having to pose all those big guys could be taxing on the muscles because they're so H E A V Y. Still, gotta admit that having a pile of wasted-looking guys on the floor looks kinda amusing!

    17. @IngieBee Ooo thank you for the suggestion! I'll have to check both out. I plan on using my Azalea as my cosplay girl, so she'll have some historical outfits as well. I used to be so intimidated by drafting my own patterns, but now it's kinda fun. I can also ensure that things fit the way I want them too.

@AntarelNefertili Aww, thank you! It was worth a shot. It could also be that your boy has a slightly bigger face too. Mind, the TGB body is also a bit larger than the FGB and the SGB, so that could be part of it as well.

    18. So I'm looking at my boy right now, and I'm wondering, how did you remove the stopper? Acitone? Why is it there? Do you think the body will be weaker without it? Thanks so much for your help. I do want to take care of all this before I restring him :D Note: for me I'm talking about the upper chest joint because mine is an SGB and doesn't have the lower body joint :)

    19. @Silver_Unicorn297 I am honestly entertaining the thought of getting one of the more recent, larger Granado heads (specifically Noah) as an upgrade/alternate to my Michael, just so he'd look more proportionate on the Idolman FGB. I still quite prefer the aesthetic and joints of Impldoll Idolman body to the more recent offerings of Granado, unfortunately. :sweat It's difficult to find companions for petite-headed dolls! (Doesn't help that Granado has an event now.)

@IngieBee I'm too lazy to undress Guórén right now to see if I even bothered to remove the stopper from his torso, but I can definitely say that for my MGB, it wasn't glued in any way whatsoever. I removed it when I loosened Adhara's strings, and if anything, she got even more flexible on the side-to-side movement. I just have to take care not to bend her on the extreme.
