1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 15

Dec 23, 2020

    1. Hehe, being from the Philippines myself, I'm quite glad Impl has increased sculpt diversity in their offerings. Even though none of my dolls' characters share my place of birth, one of them has native influences in her faceup. Her face was also slightly modded to hint a bit of her being part-Mesoamerican (Maya, specifically). It's really awesome how a little sand here and there could totally change a sculpt!

    2. she is gorgeous!! that faceup is stunning stunning stunning. It's really cool you put Mesoamerican influence into your design; I've never seen or heard of anyone doing that before with their dolls.

I'm also glad Impl has diverse sculpts. My sister is half-Thai half-Filipino, and her soon-to-be child will be Black, Thai and Filipino once they're born, which is why I hoped to find a doll that could fit those ethnicities (or at least could convincingly look Black and Filipino, as having a sculpt that looks Thai, Black, and Filipino is a tall order in the BJD world). None of my dolls are based on people I know irl, but I do like to work the ethnicities of the people I love into my characters. It's nice for my dolls to reflect my life in that small way.

    3. @mohnblumendolls Her facepaint was inspired by fabric patterns from an ethnic group in Mindanao, the southernmost of the Philippines' major islands. (I emphasize: inspired by, not directly lifted.) I won't go too much into how she ended up with those patterns, but let's just say her father is a displaced elemental who absorbs influences from places he wanders to. :)

      O
wing how many years our islands were colonized by all sorts of outside powers (not to mention the location is pretty lucrative as a cultural melting pot), there are definitely lots of mixed heritages, especially in the capital. I myself am part Spanish (from a great-great grandfather) and part Chinese (someone doing historical research found out that the source was a group of brothers who emigrated from coastal Fujian). Come to think of it, all my dolls sans one are of mixed heritage, hehe.

@IngieBee Warpaint-Adhara is a Fantasia Doll Vivian open-eyed version from the original 2016-7 release, modded to be less pointy on the chin. Fantasia Doll relaunched themselves recently, but according to those who received their orders, the new Vivian sculpt has differences from the original release.

    4. @AntarelNefertili , I know you've said so before, but I'm so forgetful! I love the family, and their intricate stories.

    5. D'awwwww it's okay~ I totally don't mind rehashing them, as I overhaul things every once in a while (is a bit OC like that).

On a general note, I just noticed that the new male heads (Paddy and Wyatt) were both listed to have 21cm head circumference. That's a lot smaller than the previous 23.5cm heads (and I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me when I observed something different about their proportions in the promo pics). I am not a stranger to petite male heads **looking at my LoongSoul Zhuzhao and Granado Michael**, but it seems even Impl is starting to experiment with that kind of sizing.

    6. Well Impldoll has super huge noggin, like lightbulbs! Still, at 21cm... seems kind of small for their idol bodies??

    7. If my Granado Michael/Impldoll Idolman FGB hybrid is any sample, I can unfortunately confirm it may look small. :sweat (The only reason Guórén has been getting away with it all this time is due to his long hair and strategic camera angles.) To be honest, some LoongSoul guys have been looking like that for some time now, so it's a minor caveat for those who are thinking of ordering the smaller heads on the Idol body!

    8. If the new heads are smaller that makes me even more tempted to get one to hybrid! Kinda like Paddy for a personal project I've been sitting on.

@AntarelNefertili I'm so enamoured of Adhara, she's one of my favourites when she shows up.

@mohnblumendolls Impl is one of the only affordable companies that I think has actually diverse sculpts. They look so distinct but they have such special and detailed traits it's really refreshing that they're not ultra perfect, super ambiguous things.

OFC my Impls are all "white" (debatable since Massi and Fia are Sephardim, Kat is Ashkenazi and Dante is Metis/black but white passing) so I should get on with ordering some more diverse sculpts. Specifically I've been staring down Acron/Acorn for ages for a Mayan character.

    9. I'm happy to hear all is good with impldoll, though it's too bad about their prior sculptor's family. What do you all think about these newly teased sculpts? They remind me of Iplehouse in style, a bit. I'm not crazy about them right now because of that, but I'm sure they'll look different once they're cast.

Yeah, I totally agree. There are so few affordable options to shell characters of color. It's really too bad.

    10. That second feminine sculpt with the lips could be one of my unshelled warrior women. So exciting, though I'm sorry to hear about the sculptor's troubles too.

    11. I've already noticed the difference in sculpting, but I welcome the new dolls anyway (and hope their previous sculptor will be okay). The girl is real tempting, waaaah. However, I'd have to get a different company's body because the character wasn't meant to be as curvy/sensual as Adhara (or her in-progress daughter who will also be on an MGB).

    12. I'm also sorry to hear about the sculptors family, but am glad they could go home and spend time with their family. I'm also glad they're starting to hit their stride again :thumbup

    13. I have a question and I hope some of you guys can help.
I really love the Star body I got but one thing is bugging me. The hands... they look to out of place with the small joint and thin wrist. The hands themselfs are beautifully sculpted but I just can't with that wrist joint situation :XD:
Do you guys know what companies hands fit the Star Girl bodies?

    14. @MamaFrey which star body? I suspect it's not the current star but the older star body because I don't see a problem like that at all! However, if you are talking about the current star body (we all have our own perception after all) I did put a pair of do.l legend jointed 1/3 bjd boy hands with long fingernails on my MGB girl and they are a bit bigger, but I like big hands :D

      I hope that helps?

    15. Oh my gosh, what facemold is this girl? She's gorgeous :D:love:chibi

    16. I saw on Instagram that the Star Muscular body has been updated. :aeyepop: I can't quite pick out the changes, but I'm so curious! I love that body.

    17. I'm not at all sure what they updated, the chest piece still looks kinda...out of place with the rest of the body? Like she's buff everywhere but her chest/upper back?

      • x 1
    18. I think it's the chest piece (it's small boobs? Did they exist before?) And the arms look buffer than before.

Ok i cross checked with Alice pics and.... I don't get what they changed :XD:
