1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 15

Dec 23, 2020

    1. @A Wee Tiefling : Thank you! I'm still in shock over the order, hehe! I really think PeiYing has an interesting face, so I'm hoping he looks amazing in person. Since I was offered a free head, I got a Tony to switch out on the body. Super excited! They're both also going to be in Real Skin Anti-UV~ And, omgoodness, I've been wanting to order the muscle Idol body forever, and it's going to go to my Deesse head! =* __ *=

@IngieBee : Thank you, too! I actually have been wanting to order for a few years, and when I finally got around to it, decided to go big or go home, lol! However, it's definitely going to be a loooooong wait. /o\ Also, on the Leona, it kinda does look like they used the deep groove to double as a teeth placeholder and painted them in. The company photo teeth line up perfectly with the angles of her mouth in your photo~

    2. Oh goodness, I'd try teeth, if I can do it without messing up her faceup!?? I might take on that challenge??!! @A Wee Tiefling

Regarding clothes, gosh I have bought a pair of "leather" pants, they had ballooning in the thigh part of the pants and were not to the ankles, but stuff into boots. Plus I got a pair of jogging pants from SartoriaJ for EID I don't see either one on their website anymore. I don't know if they have changed anything, but I think, if they say the clothes will fit Iplehouse EID, it's probably a safe bet. Only thing is, they have their own dolls now, and may not be sewing for Iplehouse sized dolls anymore??

@TasiaChiba I really need to see your Real Skin dolls when they arrive. I'm wondering if I got such a light "real skin" because they thought I wanted an older version of their real skin, which was apparently light a long time ago or what? I mean, I made it clear a dozen times, that I wanted their darker real skin that I had gotten earlier in 2018 (the order was made 2019 and I received the wrong color in December 2020. It was such a mess, but I'm trying to figure out how NOT to have issues next time I order, which won't be until next fall at the earliest. Ugh. I want a body for my Plaice so badly! Plus I have other heads to buy bodies for :doh

    3. Doing a hybrid in general can be such a pain. Staying within the company with just different years and getting drastic changes in resin colour has got to be frustrating.

Soom is horrible about changing their resin colours without saying a damn thing. I have 2 Soom greys from different years (Euclase 2008 & Auber 2011) and even accounting for some mellowing, they're not the same shade of grey or close enough to fake it. A friend has 2 Soom tans from different years and they don't look anything alike. I also have 2 Soom ID51's (London the Moor & London Steam Engine Rider, both 2011) but considering that they were both made in 2011, I'm not over overly surprised that their resin colour is the same gorgeous tan (ebony). Their tan, however, is vastly different from my friend's tan boys as I believe her's are "tawny" and mine are "ebony".

    4. Yup. Just got my tawny Hyun and he is a pinker tawny than my tawny Narmer.

    5. @IngieBee : Yeah, when I was deciding on resin colors, I was reading all about the different changes and batches and whatnot! Finding references was so very difficult. I also got all my girls in the "normal" Realskin, so we will definitely have a chance to see!

    6. Well, I have to admit, I just can't find bodies I like as much as Impldoll's, especially at the price. So I believe the rest of my floating heads will be receiving Impldoll bodies with the possible exception of 2 ... but they might as end up with Impl bodies as well. Ugh, so many floating heads!!

    7. I'm still surprised at how nice Impl is for the price, definitely.

Well, I've been kicked in the behind by real life for a bit, and I haven't had much motivation to work on doll things. It's good to see all the familiar names still in this thread :)

Finally got around to sueding my girl last week, in hopes that that in combination with Mod Podge sealing would protect against chipping... And it did not. Took a great big chunk out of all the layers of sealant (at this point there's like 10 of them) before I even finished restringing her.
So I had a bit of a frustrated cry (after having to redo the sueding 3 times because of trial and error, and getting bit on the finger because of Impl's infamous stringing tension, I was pretty done), and then I decided to make it the body blushing & tattoos permanent mods. I'm sealing it all with brush-on resin; given Impl's prices I figured I'd rather have a doll I enjoy with no resale value, than one that won't look like I want it to just because I MIGHT one day want to sell it.

    8. Aw, I'm sorry for all the struggles @With-a-curl :( I hope a few days distance will give you a happier perspective on what you've accomplished. I'd love to see if you get the time for photos?!

    9. @With-a-curl Awwww, that sounds like A Day. And I agree with you, better to have a doll you can love. Let us know how it works out with the brush on resin, since that's what I want to do next for Dante and his tattoos...(If I don't lose it with his knees and re-shell his body)

    10. @With-a-curl aww, I'm so sorry that you had that happen to you. Please let us know how this new technique works out! I'm also interested in doing permanent mods (Winter Soldier arm for my Bucky Barnes).

What exactly is brush-on resin though??

    11. @IngieBee @A Wee Tiefling Thanks for the sympathy :XD: I'll post pictures once I'm done.

@Silver_Unicorn297 with 'brush-on resin' I just mean a non-dripping/sagging version of regular, clear pouring resin (the kind you might use for jewelry). Because it doesn't drip, I hope to minimize the chance of having to sand bumps away. (There's also a material used by nail technicians called 'brush-on resin' I believe, but I'm not sure that's actually resin?)
A Winter Soldier arm sounds like a really cool project by the way!

    12. @With-a-curl oh, gotcha! I presume it's different from your regular polyurethane brush-on sealer then? Unless that's what you are talking about. I think the resin nail technicians use is a type of UV resin? And thank you! Bucky Barnes has been a dream project of mine for a while.

    13. That's so cool, I need to learn more about mods like that. Unfortunately I've been working on pattern slopers today and haven't been here all day :( Now it's 5 AM and I haven't slept, I'm an idiot, LOL!!!

    14. I use UV nail resin when making the iris part of eyes and as the final gloss coat for them. I've found the nail resin is a bit more viscous than the typical UV craft resin. I'd initially tried to use the craft UV resin for the gloss coat but couldn't get it to go over the eye satisfactorily in a thin, even coat. Maybe I was doing it wrong? I am satisfied with the results I get with the UV nail resin.

Ages and ages ago there was a thread in the workshop area that was testing various products for durability to preserve extensive body blushing. I think how something went on (brushed/sprayed etc.) was part of it as well as if there was any colour change associated with the product since I think many of them were related to flooring finishes. I was following the thread as Moswen (OT for this thread) has full body tiger striping. He was sealed with a couple of layers of MSC but he is my favourite and has had a LOT of handling. His blushing is also 12 years old now and needs to be re-done because it's rubbed off in some places but I'm loathe to send him out because AoD no longer does tan, no longer makes the muscular 1/4 body and they made changes to his head sculpt (Chi) so replacing him would be very nearly impossible if something were to happen to him in the mail.

    15. @Iron_Dog was it this one? https://denofangels.com/threads/any-uses-for-mod-podge-success-updated-in-post-2.515600/

Though I would use caution, because I think @With-a-curl used this technique with no success, right? It seems like it's a combo of number of layers, diluting vs not diluting, curing time, and humidity.

I will be running some tests myself, so wish me luck.

In the meantime, I've been drafting patterns like crazy for my Bucky Barnes project. So far, I've got the t-shirt, Henley, and hoodie down pat. Here's hoping that my jacket turns out well too. I'll take pictures on my day off, if y'all are interested.

    16. @Silver_Unicorn297 That is one post for the protective business I was looking at but not the one specifically with the other products.

I will 2nd? 3rd? the caution about Mod Podge. I have applied metal leafing to Mkhai and Saraf's dragon arm (Saraf is OT for this thread) using Mod Podge as the size, which worked utterly fine. I then brushed on 3 thin layers of Mod Podge to protect the leafing. For Mkhai, it's fine and has held up well but none of the leafing is in/near joints. These are the parts of Mkhai that have leafing before I strung him together.
[IMG]IMG_0647 by ID Locke, on Flickr

For Saraf's arm, it rubbed off quickly at/in the joints and this is despite my waiting a full 3 weeks before stringing the arm parts together to allow it to fully cure and moving the joints with a lot of care. It has still annoyed me enough that I've taken off the arm (FL event arm) and put his regular arm back on (Saraf is a 5Star Dark).

    17. Wow, I never even thought of using resin over paint on the skin of a doll! Now I really am curious to read that thread!

I remember Mkhai and all that beautiful metal leafing you did! So gorgeous! @Iron_Dog What a bummer that the arm got all scratched up :(

      • x 1
    18. Well, the arm belongs to Saraf and it wasn't a perfect fit (slightly smaller than his real arm) since the parts were from 2 very different companies. It was an okay hybrid-ish thing but live and learn, right? I'm now looking into getting the dragon scales and claws modded onto his normal arm and go from there.

    19. Just paid off the layaway on my Iris!! I'm so excited, I just hope she looks as good in dark tan as I imagine. Anyone have any experience with how long it takes to ship a doll, is it a longer wait for darker skin tones? I ordered from Alice's Collections, not directly from impldolls so will that be a factor in terms of how long it could take? Of course with covid theres are normal delays expected too, I'm just worried it'll end up being half a year till I see her :...(

      • x 1
    20. Normally, dolls used to ship out in 4 months, but it's been a hard year, and Impldoll has fallen behind. I just got an order that took over a year. I don't know why. Anyway, I do hope they catch back up quickly, but yah, it may come quickly, it may take quite some time. These are just messed up times :atremblin
