in an emergency evacuation would you take your dolls?

May 5, 2016

    1. After my family and my pets were safe, I would probably grab my dolls, my laptop and my picture of my grandpa. In such a situation, I would probably want the comfort of having my dolls. But I wouldn't risk anyone lives to get those things.

    2. I'd spent too long trying to put Grimmoire together, I'd have her packed up in a heartbeat, my unnamed Dollzone dragon mermaid, would be next as she's small enough to drop into my purse, oddly enough my first doll Frauss would be the least on the priority list as she would be the easiest to replace as she's not a limited edition.

But all my dolls are currently packed up in a small bag to begin with so, grabbing it wouldn't be much.

Only other immediate thing is the cat, who jumps up into his carrier when given a chance, he loves the thing, so win-win.

    3. I think about this sometimes. I'll make sure my family and pets are safe first before grabbing my belongings. I'm the kind of person who would sacrifice my own safety for people and things (this is bad I know lol) so I'll probably grab my dolls and my laptop even in a raging fire :D

    4. we have been in that situation out here few years ago and it was close. First I put all the cats in carriers to be sent to the next big town with a friend to be safe was coordinating with my neighbors kids and ready to cut the fences between the south side and my property and the kids to do the same on the north to let the cattle have a chance to escape along with horses and anything else. I have hope chests I had dumped and first put all necessary paperwork and pictures into then jewelry nd my bead crafts adn canvases with some dolls. It is an overwhelming experience on what should stay and go. Luckily my calls of hysteria to the local army base helped as they came out with those big water helicopters and put it out a couple miles from my place

    5. Wow that's a scary thought! If I had the space and time I certainly would. But family, pets, computers and important documents first.

A few years ago we had to evacuate the apartment due to carbon monoxide, thankfully the alarm caught it in time AND the leak was outside of the apartment. The furnace (out on the balcony) broke down not long after xmas, so the apartment was filled with stuff that hadn't found a place (plus we're not the neatest people out there), so it was a bit difficult to figure out exactly what was causing the alarm to go off and grab all of the pets. Once we realized that it probably wasn't a false alarm (which had happened in the past) we got every window open and packed all of the pets and my son into the car (this was in the middle of a very chilly night). And that was it. I didn't think to grab anything else (then again it wasn't like the danger of a fire, then I might have grabbed more).

@Katscauldron Wow, I'm so glad you were prepared and thought about the livestock/horses - not a lot of people do. And I'm really glad that everyone and everything turned out alright!

    6. I'm not sure actually - I have so many heirlooms from my grandparents, and great-grandparents that means so much too me, and a lot of other vintage stuff that I would never get back. I would of course take care of my family, and my dog. Then I think I would take care of clothes, essentials and important documents for everyone - on the sentimental stuff (which includes dolls for me) I would take photoalbums, old heirlooms and photographs, art work if it means something to me and some very special books I've had a long time. Things I can re-buy, I wouldn't take unless there was a lot of room. Although, right now I only have one doll - a lati yellow, so she takes no more - and I would probably snatch her up as well...

    7. As sad as I will be, but I will leave my dolls in an emergency situation. :( I will save my life and of course my family and/or my friends (grab anything that might be useful as well in the process of evacuating), rather than my dolls. I can save up to buy them again in the future if I lose them, but I can't bear to lose family members and/or friends. :atremblin

    8. thanks there had been a really ugly fire down below us in Texas right before that where people apparently didn't have the time, ability or think about it and many animals were trapped and burned alive. My neighbors were i town him with his parents getting them out of their house and her at her brothers getting them out. Her brothers house it went to the back yard and everything still in the house was black when it was said and done, it took weeks for them to clean up the smoke damage alone. Fence cutting you don't do until the bitter end as it isn't fun to rewire but I think everyone needs to think have the wore cutters and be ready for that.

    9. For me, I think honestly it would depend on how much time I had. The first things I would grab would be my cat and his food/bowl, my flashdrives, my backpack, my dreamcatcher my bf made me, a tiger and wolf stuffie that I've had forever, and an irreplaceable 100+ year old copy of Illustrated Shakespeare. My doll can be replaced, but I think if I had the time, and had everything else I needed/wanted, I would grab her, but she isn't a priority.

    10. I would most definitely grab my doll if there was a need to evacuate. I'd grab anything that I can— as a materialistic person, however, it's quite difficult since I'd want to grab everything, but suppose I'll grab the items that are most sentimental in value, and most expensive/difficult to replace. Though we wouldn't really know how the circumstances would be if that happens. I'd want to make sure that family is safe, as well as my pets. There's also the paperwork and important documents to worry about.

    11. I would also leave my doll behind. :( My family, self, and my cat come first. If I had any time, I would take any family heirlooms or pictures before I'd grab my doll. Plus my doll is kept in a backroom away from any exits (dark closet). It'd be hard to take him.

    12. In an emergency situation, I would probably not take my dolls. Maybe a tiny or Yosd doll if I have the time to grab one, but probably not. Family and cat will come first.

    13. My dog would be the most important. As much as I like my dolls, they are things which are replaceable. A living creature is not.

    14. Unless I had an extensive amount of time, I'm not even sure I would think about them...:nowords:
People, pets, and tech first. Then, if given the time, I'm sure I'd grab them as well as any other sentimental items... If there were a choice, basically, I definitely wouldn't choose to leave them behind!

    15. I've thought of this before and concluded I would definitely grab my dolls (after my pets). They are the most expensive things I own and love them too dearly. Other material objects like my books and video games could be replaced overtime, I think I'd be too heartbroken and financially troubled if I tried to replace my dolls, and one I own is no longer available.

    16. I would definitely try to grab the most valuable ones, if only to sell them off to raise money for a new home. I love them, but they're kinda my emergency money source by default.

    17. Oh gosh! This thread made me realize that I don't have an emergency plan! I'd definitely try to grab all of my dolls, even if that meant just stuffing all 9 of them in a duffel bag. (Eyelashes be damned!) All of their clothes and accessories are replaceable so I wouldn't worry too much about those. I'd at least try to grab Pearl, my Volks old F-07, for sure. I've had her for 14 years and the thought of losing her makes me want to cry. She's not just one of my most precious dolls, she's probably my most special possession in life. Of course if I could see smoke or something under my bedroom door I'd just grab the cats (maybe my husband too...) and get out.

Come to think of it, I did have to evacuate my house once. Our neighbors had a gas leak and the fire department made us leave our house too in a matter of about a minute or so. On my way out a grabbed one of my cats but couldn't find the other one. I spent two hours outside the house holding my 17 pound Norwegian Forest Cat. I was so worried about my other cat the whole time. Luckily there were no explosions and it turns out my other cat was just hiding in my bathtub! My dolls didn't even cross my mind that time. But I think if I had found both cats and had at least 10 minutes to get out I would have tried to grab my dolls.

    18. Depends on what kind of emergency & how much time I had. If I woke up in the middle of the night to a fire alarm going off, I'd just be grabbing as I ran, making sure that my cats got out on the way. I'd TRY to grab my phone, my removable hard drive, & my Volks Ryoma along the way (as well as a robe & my glasses...) Oh & definitely my PURSE!!!!

    19. If it really came down to it...probably not. I would much rather prioritize the safety of myself and my family, and any sort of important documentation over a doll.

    20. If there was a fire right here and now I would be getting my cats and my daughter. If i had time to reenter to pick something else I'd get my laptop, phone, ipad and purse. I highly doubt that i'd have more time than this, but if I did i'd most likely try to get some clothes, sentimental heirlooms or practical things that'll be hard to live without until the insurance comes through. As much as I love my dolls all of them are able to be recreated, many of my items are not
