in an emergency evacuation would you take your dolls?

May 5, 2016

    1. In an immediate emergency, no. I'm going to be shoving kittens in a carrier, and if I have time, grabbing the mementos of my last cat.

In a situation with more time to prepare, there's a good chance they'd go into the back of my car, as there's a good chunk of money involved in them.

    2. my family and pets would come first, but if I had time to go and get my dolls also then I would.

    3. Because mine are MSD's, if I had to leave in an hour, I'd pop them into a box together (since they don't take too much room) and just store them in the car because the box is much smaller. I'd leave their clothes, as those are very replaceable. If they were bigger, I'd definitely have to think twice about bringing them!

    4. Aagghh! I should be preparing for this; living in drought - stricken California. Even developed areas have been hit. My car is small, so I couldn't carry much. Our seven birds would have to go with us. I'm wondering if those self-storage areas would provide enough protection? So yes, I'll think of something. Four dolls for sure + YOSD "Anne" would be taking up room in my wife's purse. For those who've had to make these decisions for real because of fire or flood or ? - my heart goes out to you.

    5. Of corse I would take my 2 dolls, my 2 PCs, monitor and sewing mashine (having a sewing mashine you dont need to take clothes :P) of corse i would take my dolls clothes :P

    6. In a serious "we have to leave now" type of emergency - no. I'd be way more focused on my family and pets. Any extra time would be spent tossing together emergency supplies and dolls just wouldn't be a part of that. Lots of special things would be left behind in a situation like that.

If I had advance warning and a bit of time? Maybe, but they'd be one of the last things to make it into the car.

In the hierarchy of importance, my dolls come in somewhere after my son, my partner, my pets and the miscellaneous items needed to care for aforementioned priorities. Typing that makes me feel soooo old and stuffy. <___<

    7. Yeah, I'd take my doll that's worth the most and leave the rest. I'd probably carry them without a case though.

    8. I live in California so know about fires way too well. I would definitely take as many as I could. I have too many to take but would take a lot. I can replace a bed, couch, TV, whatever, but I would take scrapbooks, items I bought in travels, some of my books, and other things first. I would definitely include dolls.

    9. Of course. My landlordes have a dog and three cats, so I would help them with the pets, but I have a big bag under the dolls telephone table and seater, so it would be quick, to put them in, with my laptop and my passport. Everything else from my room could be lost, but these three "items" (well, 7, if the dolls are counted one by one) are relevant. (But if I had enough time, the next would be the most important books or one of my cosplays.)

    10. I've experienced a fire two years back, thankfully I didn't have any dolls back then. I remember getting my baby brother out of his crib first and then telling my sister to get some stuff that were dear to me. To be honest, I would grab my dolls + their stuff, laptops, and whatever else on the spot. I'm slow at reacting to be frank, but when push comes to shove, I tick off the things I need and want with me and then run as fast as I can.

    11. If it was a fire in the building or something where I had to get out fast, no way. I will love them, but my life and the life of my family is the only thing I'll care about. It's enough trouble trying to get two cats out, I'll not think about dolls in that situation. If it was just me I would likely still not bother, because you never know how much time you'll have. Even a second can sometimes mean your life.

As for if something happened like an evacuation, and we had time to gather a few things, I would take the dolls I'll be getting soon. They are small, and we don't have many items we care about that much. My family(including cats), Dolls(Maybe some of their stuff), and a few odds and ends like toothbrushes, some changes of clothing, and harddrive of my files(need them for work), would be all we would worry about. I will only have two small dolls though, so that helps. Obviously that depends on how much time we had, if I was in a hurry I would only be thinking about my family, so I would likely even forget about them.

If I am thinking about my old collection of 13, I would have left them. They are bigger, and I would hate to pick only a few to keep. They are not really real, but having 1 or 2 would remind me of the others I left behind. I'm glad I'm only going to have 2 small dolls. I also don't think it would be easy to get them and the cats and everything that is more important, like things to keep us comfortable.

    12. Wow I just realize I've never thought in great detail about this type of scenario at all and that I should probably get an evacuation plan in motion too lol. You raised a good point.

As for would I bring any dolls with me if I had to evacuate? Probably only the ones that were sentimental to me or as other people have stated are LE or have some rarity to them but in those types of situations I think my mind would be on too many other things and the dolls would fall on the back burners of my mind.

    13. Assuming there was enough advanced notice to load up a car then yes, as far as possessions I'd take my dolls, tv, laptop, and video games/consoles. Obviously the family and cats come first. Everything else is cheap and replaceable. If I had to choose, there are definitely those I would prioritize over others.

    14. this is such a tough question! id like to think id pack essentials and things i definitely can't live without, such as clothes, hygiene, identification, laptop and other electronics.... in a pinch i probably wouldn't be able to take any dolls.
      but if i had time to pack, like many others have said, i would try to take as many of my dolls and as much of their stuff as i could. tbh im so sentimental (and a little materialistic), i dont want to lose anything ive invested in haha;;

    15. I think most of us have the same idea, if its a real emergency where you have to evacuate immediately, no dolls. Grab your family and run!

If you have some warning beforehand and have some time, then yes, documents, mobile and laptop perhaps. Dolls if there's space.
One of my friends always has a small bag prepared with her documents and money in case of emergencies. Once there was a fire alarm so while the rest of us were unprepared, she only had to grab that one bag and leave.

    16. It depends how much time I had. If there wasn't much time I don't think i'd personally be worrying about my dolls. I'd probably want to focus on irreplacable items such as family photographs as well as important paperwork I might need (birth certificate) if for some reason I wasn't able to ever return back to my home. Of course I'd also want to make sure my family and my dog were okay. My poundpuppy plushie i've had since I was nine years old would definately come with me though lol:lol: unless I couldn't reach him for some reason. Dolls can be replaced and if a particular doll can't be because it's a one-of-a-kind, it's not that crucial in the grand scheme of things, you and your loved ones welfare is far more important.

    17. I don't have any pets or children, so hopefully there'd be time to take my doll. However, my other family members and my daily medications are a much higher priority; if I had to choose between Ingrid and my mom or my medication - well, sorry Ingrid.

    18. After my family pets, photographs and family videos, and important papers, I would take as many as I could carry.

    19. That's a super hard question considering I do a lot of collecting. I'm sure I'd have like a small bag to put the things I like in. I know I'd take my laptop maybe my top favorite three dolls then some plush.

    20. If I had time/room then yes. I don't really want to think about that though. I would hate to have to make that kind of decision.
