Iplehouse 70cm EID Akando Discussion Part 3

Jul 15, 2009

    1. Pam that looks great.. I think the Iple NS resin will mellow and loose some of it's pinkest tinge over time. Those proportions are very nice!!

    2. Pam, if this is you fooling yourself, could you fool me a little, too? Because that looks incredible! The blushing sorted the color match right up to my eye, and the proportions look wonderful. I love the look of this guy!

    3. Pam: I'll argue that his head looks a smidge too small, but in the normal way a body builder's head may look too small for his new muscles. In other words, it looks naturally "small" :D I agree on your excellent blushing skills, too!

    4. Looks absolutely fantastic, Pam! As for the colour difference - just leave the naked body out there in broad daylight for a while and it'll yellow to match the resin of the head almost perfectly, I dare say. ;)

    5. There is something so sad about this advice.
LOL...He is already mellowed a bit...I was looking at his extra hands which are in the box most of the time...still so pretty and pink.

    6. Oh wow! I'm impressed! He looks really cool! Kinda like a biker - but I can easily imagine him as a pirate, too.

    7. I now officially own 4 heads for my EID body.
I have never done that before with any other doll.

      Bart is my biker/pirate model
      Cei is my elf/fantasy model
SH is my Super Hero model
      Granger is my modern model

At some point I guess I need another body!

    8. Aw, a split personality type of body, eh? *lol*
How much exactly did you have to modify the Minimee head to make it fit?

    9. It's an interesting process and I was outside, mask on for over 2 hours.
I took a HUGE amount of resin out of the neck hole....then had to put in a new groove for the S hook as the other is not in the right place for the head to sit properly.
To top it all off (literally) I got out the belt sander and took a ton off his head cap.
I don't know what they are doin over at DIM but someone needs to take a fresh look at the cranium shape they are using on some of these sculpts.
He looked like the Queen of Egypt with that huge egg on th back of his head.

and Thank You God for the electric dremel.

    10. :aeyepop: wow, I'm still having nerve attacks over just doing face ups or tatts. I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to take a sander to anything on a doll. He looks fab!

    11. Pam - yeah I think the head looks fine and in proportion. I'd be tempted to blush the neck a little just because he has a lot of texture on his face, but then I guess you'd have to do the whole body and therein lies madness.

I'm really sorry to hear about peoples' RS Akandos going green. TBH I only remember french resin dolls yellowing not greening. There was one girl who did have a similar greening problem on a tan doll - it was a Dollkot Kiss I think. She took him out to a meetup for a couple of hours but not only did he go green the resin also started to break down. Really that's the only one I can recall.

Although it's a terrible shame, I think it really is better to sell your realskin now and get NS at the reduced price because it comes down to three choices:

      1. Green Akando :(
      2. No Akando :...(
      3. A lovely new nice NS Akando :)

As long as you can get the 60% back on the RS by reselling, it works out OK.

I'm kind of worried about my Kamau now because I perhaps stupidly presumed he was the same resin as Iple's other dark tan dolls. He doesn't look part French resin, but now I'm worried. I've waited years to get a dark tan boy, so I can understand what a major bummer it is.

It's not something a buyer could have predicted, because Iple has already turned out many perfectly fine and very dark dolls. If I had bought him I would have been prepared for yellowing because of French resin, but I would not have anticipated a big problem because of it. If I recall correctly the French resin problems Narindoll had were only a major issue on the white skin and not so much on the tan. Greening is a different kettle of fish and harder to work with.

    12. You forgot option 4! Be so ridiculously in love with RS you're willing to work with it. Greening potential or not I wouldn't have my boy any other way.

And I believe it was mentioned further up that Iple's darker tones have aged remarkably well so I think Kamau should be fine. Why would they change the dark resin if it worked so well before?

    13. I just got the UV protection Luo and hope he doesn't change....if I keep him fully dressed, then only the areas exposed have the potential to change colors, is that correct? Does anyone know if flourescent light makes them change color? I've read a lot about sunshine harming them and regular light being okay, but not much on flourescent bulbs....I'm glad I found this thread and if anything happens to him I would have him airbrushed, if that's not to expensive...

    14. As far as I know fluorescent bulbs do emit some small amount of UV rays but not near as much as sunlight. I don't know if it's enough to do harm but if you're super worried I think they make filters for fluorescent too? On the other hand if he stays dressed all the time be sure to check him for staining once in a while. :)

eta: google pulled up some handy facts

    15. Here's option number 5. Instead of tossing good money after bad check out Soom's new beefy boy and leave the greenies behind. No resin changes in Soom products that I've found; and he has the muscle and the brains! :sweat Here's hoping his face lives up to the bod!

Oh one more thing: IpleHouse does warn you now to keep the real skin dolls away from fluorescent lights. So much for energy saving light bulbs.

    16. Dude, energy saver bulbs are a health risk to humans as well as to dolls, anyway. I'd sooner attempt dying a jolly green giant than risk breaking one of those spiral health hazards.

Kascabel: As others mentioned, fluorescent light emits UV rays. Anything that produces Ultra Violet is bad for dollies; the severity and intensity are the only variables.

    17. Thank you all for the help...a shame we have to worry with such expensive dolls...this should not be happening...

I will check out the Soom products...thanks madera

    18. I'm right in on this one as well. XD

I also figure, if my boys turn green, I will make them into cool psychobilly zombies. Yeah! 8D And I still prefer the look of the EID body over Sooms Idealian (what's been shown of it so far).

Question aside: I must admit I have only read small parts of this thread. -_-; Is it ALL realskin EIDs that have greened, or only some? My Akando from July looks a bit lighter, but i'm not sure, and it actually suits me pretty fine. :) However, he doesn't look green to me. :)

    19. I just had Luo out and he is loose so I tightend the knot but he still doesn't stand or sit real well...My other bjd's were tight and I had to hot glue the joints but they were easier to work with...I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the way Luo sits...and for me he is just a bit toooo big and heavy....I also think his head is a bit to small for the BIG body.
