I think part of it is because it's such a stark contrast to their skin and it gives them a more stunning look than dark brown eyes would on the same doll. The same reason a lot of them (as far as I've seen) can put dark eyes with blonde-haired white skinned dolls... It just offers a different contrast that makes you pay a bit more attention, IMHO.

It... could also be that the Asian companies appreciate blue/green eyes more, considering it's a rare color in their own lands for eyes, and it's a rare color for African people as well. So it just makes a statement.

 

I really love the eye color on Ashanti, my cousin was born with green eyes and she is AA so it is possible irl too.

 

Nothing wrong with variety. Plus in real life there are dark-skinned people born with different eye colors than the common brown (blue is very rare but it still happens).(sorry mods for going OT..won't happen again)
Personally I'd love to see the Ashanti doll with purple or violet eyes.

FYI, in my household, Aaron is the darkest, Kamau the second, and Cocori the lightest.

 

I ordered a medium bust Asa together with her whole chinese outfit. I think she's the most beautiful asian head sculpt ever made.

Ashanti looks soooo real. I gotta see if I could still afford her next month! And I don't think I can because it's tax month. I hope Ashanti will be offered like dark Cocori is.

 

Thanks for the comparision pics of dark tan and ebony..Do you think blushing would make the ebony shin warmer?

 

I guess blushing could help, but adding pigment on the top could also make the surface appear dull. So I am not sure if that'd result in the warm, smooth skin we are looking for. (Ebony is not a bad color to begin with.)

I'm wondering if the ashy-ness of the ebony skin is due to them trying to avoid the reds that were causing the greening problems. That was my initial thought when Shadow Chase was released and looked to be a cooler tone than their other tans.

 

So much beauty!! I could never get anything done with all that beauty in one place!Thanks for the pics. I still like the color. Maybe some non-oil based moisturizer will help with ashy-ness? I actually have a vinyl doll I've been meaning to try that on.

 

The ashyness would be mixed in with the resin, so I doubt it would have any effect what so ever
And Vinyl isnt the same as resin, so you wouldn't get the same result anyway.

I did imply that I was unsure which skin tone the seasonal doll was released in. However, by iplehouse's own words, when they responded to my question shortly before his release, kamau was released as a basic doll, without all the extras (clothes wig, etc). But due to their ability to only make the darker resin during certain times of the year, you had to opt for this during the ordering period only. You simply had to select not to get his outfit pieces, face-up, shoes, etc. He may not have been released ongoingly as a basic the way the other boys were, but he was released as a basic. Wether he'll ever be released in white skin basic, I have no clue.

 

What about adding beeswax to the doll, wouldn't that make it shiny? I know MSC makes things dull and cloudy which looks ashy.

 

Actually, I now use the volks finishing powder spray. It is better on the tan dolls skin, and doesn't leave the 'ashy' look to the skin tone.

 

I'm guessing the Dark Tan is not all the thru the resin is it? That is my only problem with not getting any of them from Iplehouse aside from them fading or turning green too.

 

D, Sorry for the delayed reply- bball tournament had me off the board all weekend. I ordered Asa without the mobility joint and large breast option. She's coming with the IH face up as well but no ear piercing.

Am I really the only one who ordered Asa? Wow.

 

I asked Iple if the new girls would be availiable as basics and they said only Asa will become a basic ... No Ashanti folks...
