Here's my Baron's transformation - now that enough time has passed that I'm not as embarrassed to show the photos - from his handsome original Iplehouse faceup, to his awful repaint just three years later, and then after Lisa Jameson repainted him again. I knew Iplehouse was unreliable at the time depending on which artist did the faceup, with some dolls arriving just like their promo photos, while others were just awful. But I stupidly took a chance anyways. They did his beard all wrong, gave him dark shadows under just one eye and not the other, and gave him ridiculously long eye lashes. At least I could trim those down, but there was no way to fix that beard. I'm thankful Lisa agreed to repaint him, and he was her final commission before she retired from doing faceups. I also made him a new wig (same colour) and I find he looks somewhat older. But I still miss his original faceup sometimes.
Lisa did an amazing job with the repaint, Baron looks so handsome. I can understand why you miss his original face-up sometimes, it's so quintessentially Baron. His new repaint makes him look very distinguished and mature, older like you said. As if he's grown from being a handsome young man to a man in his prime.
Yes, and of course I had to come up with a story to explain the difference in his appearance, so before he got sent to Lisa, I did some temporary work on that awful IH repaint, and made him undergo a major face-altering experience. I'm not usually into violence, but the situation required it.
Thank you for posting some photos and reviving the thread! I am so sorry I too have been very absent. I am still very interested in my Iplehouse FID dolls but have very little time for now but it's always a goal to have some doll time. I love your Rex too! I wanted him when he was first issued and have still not got around to buying one. I have Bichun, Arvid and Lawrence and still somehow no Rex! I have done very little with any dolls and my FIDs are among those most neglected really because I need to spend time making them wigs and sorting out nice eyes for them....and of course they always want new clothes! Let me find a photo just to share...nothing like the detailed and amazing ones above but hopefully others will join in Stella by LyanneNZ, on Flickr
She's gorgeous! I love the Fashion size dolls, and started out with mostly Iplehouse ones, but I haven't ordered anyone from them in years, as these days I like the ones SartariaJ is offering much better (plus I can't seem to get into the Iplehouse site anymore) Still my all time favourite guy is my Lawrence....
Lawrence is so handsome, he is the perfect king of your world. I enjoyed seeing how his character changed and improved over time on your blog, it was fascinating to see the process. The detail of each doll you shared, what doll they are, who they became over time, it's been fascinating to read. I still look at Rex on the Iplehouse website once or twice a week, wondering if I should just do it already and order him. Indecision is so frustrating. I keep waffling between Rex & Branden or Damien from Raccoon Doll. I will likely have all three at some point if I can. I'd love to order from SartoriaJ but my patience for waiting is most likely going to crumple before they offer MSD dolls I'd want (Elliot or Andre). It sure is hard to say no to Rex though. Even if I ended up needing to have him repainted, I really like his face. It's so expressive.
Even though Lawrence and Monica are royalty in Medieval times, they also enjoy taking the occasional holiday in contemporary times. I'd say go for Rex. You probably can't go wrong with him. He's always been one of my favourite IH sculpts. It's actually why I got SJ Jude, because they look so much alike. I have several other SJ MSD guys, but I'm personally not a big fan of the Raccoon guys. Yes, it's become extremely frustrating trying to get someone you really like from SartoriaJ ever since they stopped offering a Basic line of dolls. Now, you never know whose coming next, and then you have less than two weeks to order whatever their monthly offering is, and you have no way of knowing if they'll be offered again.
I love to see them in their contemporary setting. Their poses are so natural and what a beautiful home they have I have been unable in the past to get into the Iplehouse site too. I think I can at the moment but I have written to them before letting them know. They surely must lose business when people cannot log in. I know I somehow have two identities on their site. Again just leaving an older photo... my FID Elle Elle by LyanneNZ, on Flickr
@MB Lilac I love seeing the transformation of your Baron! All your photos are such a joy to see. @LyanneNZ - I love the little crop top on your pretty girl! And your Elle is divine! Like you all I haven't gotten a FID Iple in awhile. I think the last male I got was this Dane. Fjord by luluna33, on Flickr
@LyanneNZ - Your Elle is gorgeous. Iplehouse used to be such a great company. It's too bad it's gone downhill as they had such great dolls, and you could count on them looking just like their promo photos. Lawrence and Monica were not at home, but staying in a fancy hotel on a trip to Niagara Falls in their future.... Here's their trip album - Niagara Falls - Fav Photo 2024
I don't suppose anyone has an FID Nancy they'd be willing to post a pic of? I have a blank one, and I'm not a huge fan of the company face-up. Looking for some inspiration. Not to copy, mind you. Just... what have you done with her?
I have an SID Nancy. Kathy P on Instagram: "With her blonde hair, Eun Ji always reminds me of Pony. #iplehousenancy #supiadoll65body #supia65 #chiaroscuro #balljointeddolls #dollsofinstagram #hybriddoll #dollphotography #bjdphotography"
Ooh, thank you! I found some on Flickr, too. I'm thinking my girl is gonna be a little baby goth, lol.
I caved and ordered Rex. My husband noticed I was looking at him again and teased, "You haven't ordered him yet? You know you want to!" so I did it. Peach Gold skin, muscle body, & Face-up A. He'll live in my historical world with the rest of my planned dolls. He's either going to be Raccoon Doll Henry's best friend or Raccoon Doll Ivy's older brother. I haven't quite decided yet. I figure I'll be able to make a decision when he's here. Rex will also have a ladyfriend at some point, but I haven't decided who that will be.
Congratulations! Now the waiting game begins. Hopefully he won't take too long. Sounds like you have his life all planned out. Hopefully he agrees, as some of the dolls I've ordered had their own plans. It took three ladies before my Baron finally liked one well enough to become his partner. Everyone else was just fine with an arranged relationship.
Ahhh, yes, the dolls that have their own ideas of how things will go. I think we've all been there a time or two. So annoying when it's happening but satisfying when things resolve themselves into the right partners.
