Tedros.......DEEP DARK DANGEROUS MYSTERIOUS type. I'd make him cosplay Hiko Seijūrō Jūsandai (Himura Kenshin's master) in a heartbeat.

I like the fair skin, lady's man, soft looking type of Samurai. But still, I feel tempted to get this guy. Apart from financial constrants this year, I have set a limit of no more than 5 big resin boys. This guy is too big for my gang, he's 70cm. But oh....I do like him. Let me sleep over this. I'm touring Japan this year and don't have the cash. Hihi, if you guys get him and I don't, I'd just have to stalk your flickr sites.

 

Well, it's so true making something exactly like that of humans would not always work on dolls. My grandmother can and does make human kimono, but simple minature of them do not look good on my dolls at least.
Fortunatelly kimono is not very strict about size that if you can close your eyes about little short comings like tid tight shoulder or short length, EID model type men & women can enjoy one. (Superhero is another story though. )
I put on model body guys the kimono for SD16 & 17 boy (normally with some work about eri), and EID women anything above those for SD13 boy as in the pics posted the other day.
The tough part is finding someone making good kimono, and catching one before somebody else grabs it - not to mention often paying a couple of hundres of dollars for it

I think Pure Drop san is more toward Chinese style outfit than kimono. I am yet to find a dealer constantly making good full-set male kimono.

Hiko Seijūrō Jūsandai - that's an idea. Too bad mine'd be a model type...

 

Satoko Ohno used to do the most awesome kimonos. Apparently the secret is to use old kimono cloth & to fake the undergarment layer by just attaching a second collar. I don't know if she still sells them internationally or not. (But here is her site.)

 

Oh if only Tedros was asian! D: He would be the most perfect iplehouse doll set, but if only he was asian..

 

I know that many are bemoaning the lack of Asian-ness in this version of Tedros. I'm happy w/him, though, as mine will be a member of the Water Tribe, like Hakoda & Bato.

 

*pfft* I'm not bemoaning Tedros's race. I don't give a crap what race they intended him to be -- if they chose one at all, which I don't think they did. I like his face just the way it is.

 

I can't wait to see how he comes out when you're done -- that is a brilliant idea. (I love that series, too. Such great myth-making, so rare to see that these days.)

My Nightingale is supposed to be whatever is the Chinese-equivalent in my make-believe doll universe anyway...I'm just a sucker for the beautiful Japanese (even if it is faux) thing Iplehouse was doing with this fullset. Plus I love her eye makeup!

My husband and I have always thought Tedros was a wonderful Toshiro Mifune as seen in Seven Samurai style of samurai. Hehe. All bombast and low on manners, but oh so lovable. ^_~

I've kind of come to the same conclusion with Asa - in this case, it's only the outfit and faceup that make her LE, the rest can be figured out with a basic Asa. Her faceup does tempt me a lot though - gah, no job, no money, no new dollies *sigh*. I have this weird urge to bring this particular Asa home and turn her into a rocker girl >_>;.

There are Japanese dealers who make just gorgeous kimono (and some of them take liberties in order to make them easier to get on the doll, too, so it's hardly just Iple ^_-), but unfortunately they aren't very accessible. They often do use old kimono fabric; there are stores that sell that here, and man they are full of temptations ^^;. There are also dealers making not-very-accurate kimono and yukata. It's a lot harder to get accurate kimono of any type for guys. :/ For more standard sized dolls you can hunt through Y!J but for Iple's sizes it might be hard *sigh*.

Pure Drop is most famous for Chinese clothes, especially Chinese-style warrior outfits. They often do outfits for One-Offs as well, and are awfully expensive all around (gorgeous stuff though!). Gah, making a full on furisode kimono set must be so time-consuming . . .

I really hope they come out with a Tedros-y SID. He's just too big for the chara I want him for *sniff*.

 

...and don't forget the geta feet...but those might be an extra option part afterwards, I guess?. As for the faceup, somewhere in their FAQs it says that they'll do a limited faceup on a standard doll for you, but not during the period when the limited doll is available. Still, it means the faceup is not completely 'lost' if that's the main draw of this doll for you.

Totally with you on this. As-is, he GAWGUSS, IMO. S'ok... it takes all kinds.

I'm pretty stoked about the idea, myself. I mean, isn't he just perfect for a Water Tribe guy!? My guy is gonna be a bender, a modern descendant of Aang & Katara, & he's gonna be one of the few guys who has developed healing as part of his bending abilities (remember back when I said I thought backstories were silly? ). I LURVE the show! I just finished watching it on Netflix for the 2nd time through. It's just SO! GOOD!

Ah....still don't know what to do. I feel him slipping away. Should I let him pass? A silly question nobody will answer.

He's the deep dark brooding type. I had always loved the fair/pale light romantic type. He'll make a good Hiko. Ordering Tedros will delay the adoption of Yukinojo who is perfect to cosplay Sanosuke Sagara. Besides, I'm broke this year, traveling Asia. All my dolls are in Canada, they are not with me. Sigh. Indeed, I had always preferred fair/pale looking men. I do feel uneasy with the dark skin but lighter skin Tedros is not as interesting.

It looks like I might be able to afford Tedros only if I get the doll & not the kimono, geta & sword, even though I'd like to have all the pieces.

Does anyone know (from experience, perhaps) if Iplehouse might let me add the clothes & accessories later, if I put the basic doll on layaway now & request the other bits once I'm sure I can afford them?

I doubt that the outfit will be available in the future, but you might ask Iplehouse if you could add it later.

 

They don't normally let you buy a fullset outfit separately from the doll, no. The whole enchilada gets sold together during the order period.

Of course, they have said yes to some odd requests before, so I would ask them anyway, what the hell.
