Is almost $500 too much for a doll?

Apr 29, 2008

    1. It's not too much at all. I paid about $740 for my Lusis, and I don't regret it at all. (New & Un-assembled, but marketplace price, of course). And other mature minis, like Narae and Castle Anne, are about $500 after shipping costs. It really depends on the doll. AoD, on the other hand, is about $200 and less, I think.

    2. Depends. I think that is alot for a MSD, but I just paid 500 for a SD head, and 600 for a SD13 body. *_*

Alot of MSDs like Unoa's are can be up to 1000 for one.

    3. I just spent 638 on a LE mini doll, with over $60 in shipping, it depends souly on your desire to own the doll. If you want it badly enough and know (sometimes you just know) that it is the doll for you then it's worth it. If you struggle to justify the cost then it might not be worth it.

    4. I have paid almost $500,- for my DOC Kirill, he came with face up and default clothes. I knew I wanted him, so I didn't care for the price...
I knew there were cheaper dolls, but why still spend alot of money on a doll which you don't like as much as another doll. For me the rule is fall in love with the mold or no buying. :) I'm a really picky person so I don't like erverything I see...

What others have said before me, if you want her get the lovely girl :D

    5. thanks for the advice everyone!I'm half way through saving already so I'm gonna get her!(best part was that it only took me about a month to save this much!)

    6. Most prices for dolls are "too much." :sweat :sweat But for a hobby you love, it's totally worth it. I spent nearly $500, after shipping, on my limited MNF Shushu. To pretty much mimic what everyone's been saying (XD), if you love her enough, then it should be worth it. ^_^ As far as mini prices go, $452 sounds standard, and Lei Xing was right: expect to spend about $100 dollars more than the price on the site after shipping and extras. XD For Vana, I spent almost EXACTLY $100 more (she was $395 and I ended up spending $497 or something after SH & wig). I'm glad you decided on her. :)

    7. IMO... yes. I'll never pay that much for a doll. I'm happy with inexpensive dolls, not dolls that will make my wallet cry out in pain. I can enjoy this hobby just fine with an inexpensive doll that I like. :)

    8. I paid $378 for my MSD with faceup. But that did not include shipping. She has yet to come so I do not know what that will be. Plus she comes naked. Her outfit I pre-ordered was $90 so add in shipping and Yikes!!! Almost $500 or close to it. The SD I am looking at buying is $560 with faceup plus shipping and he is also naked. If your broke like I am any amount is expensive. Plus if you love the doll does the price really matter?

    9. I commented here already but I'd just like to add, I was seriously considering a Unoa 2nd with Araki faceup, and that's well over a thousand dollars from the seller I was looking at. The only reason I DIDN'T go for her is that I don't think she'll fit into my doll family.
I am WAITING for someone to offer me a Tanpopo for around $500, and they're REALLY little!

    10. Just wanted to chime in........I don't think it's too much, either, if you can do it! I just finally got my money together to order my "Dream Doll" (yippee!!) from Dollstown, which is a MSD 7 yr old Seola, and with face up, shipping, and sanding, she will be well over $500.00!!

I went the long way around, before realizing that there actually was a way to afford her. I guess at first the prices just shocked me, and when I first started buying dolls, I thought "there's NO way I can have that doll"......even though she's the one I had my heart set on. Sooooooo, I ended up buying about 5 - -6 other dolls, trying to fill that void that was there, because I didn't have the one my heart desired! Then one day it sunk in my thick head, and I started selling all my other dolls that I had spent so much money on.....LOL! Now, with just selling a few things, plus the birthday money I'm getting (a few weeks early, I asked VERY nicely, haha!), I can NOW order her! :D

So, I'd say if this is THE one you really want, you may as well get it, because if you don't now, you'll just end up getting it later, after you spend money on lots of other stuff! Good luck with whatever you eventually do, and remember to have fun with it!!

    11. I don't think it's too much. Besides, spend the money on something you love, not something you just like.

    12. Nah, it's okay.

My MDD was $590 with shipping, face-up, wig, eyes and clothes... And with all the stuff she has now... :sweat

    13. I think this pretty much says it,lol! :sweat Even with the cheap dolls,if you think about all the money you're going to spend in their faceups/other aesthetics,clothes/shoes,maybe furniture...it'll still add up. :sweat

Lolliez yep,and even LE tinies can run from anything around $500 upwards. And they're smaller. XD

Why do I have a feeling the same's gonna happen to me... *_* *Still wanting YoSD Nana*

But in any case, nuff of my rant. XD I hope you enjoy and love your new doll.I'm still waiting for mine,ETA this coming monday I hope I hope I hope. ><

Post pictures once you get her!:aheartbea

    14. I tend to take the view that it's your 'hobby', and that some people would pay just the same amount playing sports, or buying books to read or whatever, but over a longer time. if it's what you love doing and you save up for it and aren't frivolous then i don't see why you shouldn't.

    15. Totally second this! Getting/ organizing a group order would lower shipping by a lot, so go ahead! ^^ Will definitely cut down the $65+ shipping to say, $10?

And, if price really matters to you, you could get her off secondhand in the marketplace.. Shipping and the doll itself would be more affordable.. And most sellers would probably throw in free faceup or even shipping!

      Just my 2 cents. :)

    16. If it is a mold you drool over then money is no boundry.
However I personally wouldn't pay more than $330 for a msd.
Because for about $550 to $620 I could have my dream CP sd,or a DZ Yuu.
It's better to have an expensive doll you adore than a cheap doll you can't bond with.

    17. I wouldn't say it's too much. I have my eyes set on an IH mini (basic) and she's 346 then makeup is 50 and shipping is another 48. That makes her 444. But since I live in sweden I have to pay another 120 for customfees and taxes. So in the end she'll be 564 dollars. But, I've looked at more than 600 dolls in all sizes and there's no doll I want more than I want her. So I think she's worth it.
