Is Box Opening Still Fun?

Nov 17, 2009

    1. I've had three so far (I guess five, if you count my vinyls). The first was exciting because he was my first resin doll, but the second and third were so much more entertaining because of the other dolls' involvement. ^_^; I just can't imagine it ever getting dull!

    2. In total I've had... 22 box openings at this point, I think? And yes, box openings are still so much fun and I don't think they'll ever stop being so: having saved up and waited to purchase a doll, then waited for him/her to ship and arrive at your house is nothing but one long build-up of anticipation, so the payoff is always fantastic no matter how many times you've gone through it before :)

    3. Yes it's still fun and it will continue it being!

    4. yes :) very much
i received my second dolls in 2 part (bought the head and body from different buyer) but i was SO ecxited just receive the body. i only had a MSD so i couldnt wait to see the size difference with an SD. then i still had to wait for the head wich made me even more ecxited cuz i wanted to see him in real :3

the ecxitment depends on the doll i'd say :) if its ur ninth doll but its your DREAM DOLL. like, u always dream about it at night... well your gonna be really crazy when ull open the box

    5. I've had five box openings so far, and although I still enjoy them and have a sense of anticipation, it's only the first two times that stand out in my mind as really "exciting" per se, although my last one comes to mind too I guess. So for me it probably just depends on which doll it is arriving. I can't see it ever stop being fun, though, because I just really like getting mail in general. :sweat

    6. Opening boxes for pretty much anything is fun to me. It's more the fact that I got mail for me, but I love opening boxes. Even when I know exactly what's going to be in the box.
Though, I have no interest in doing box-opening threads for my lot, but I love looking at other's new arrivals. Though, I also don't think my subsequent dolls are quite as impressive as opening my first, I really prefer it when i've got them out and ready to be played with.

    7. I love oogling over new stuff I get anyways, so yeah box opening can be fun still for me. Just doing the photos for box/arrival sometime feel hassling, so like my last doll I just didn't bother too much, a few shots and that's it :3

    8. I find box opening one of the great joys of life. There is a little edge of fear that the doll won't meet expectations, but so far I have been lucky - every one has been simply unique and amazing. I love the dolls I have purchased and the fun of opening little boxes with accessories like wigs and eyes adds to my enjoyment so much. For example, I just ordered some new soft glass eyes and can't wait for them to arrive. It is amazing to me how a different wig and eye color can totally change the look of a doll. So, yes! Box opening remains forever fun!!

    9. I have three boys and a floating head.

The excitement is definitely still there no matter how many resin children I get. I'm thrilled to know I'll be ordering another kid in time for Christmas (I can't decide whether I'd like a body for my head or a new doll completely) and the excitement for the order I haven't even placed is still there. The difference between the box opening of my first boy and my latest addition is that there's no longer any magic to it. At first I was breathless, seeing his shipping box. Every layer of paper and cardboard I shed was like another mountain I'd climbed in my journey to reach the other side. I was positively amazed when I saw my bubble-wrap mummy, despite having seen so many others' box opening stories. And it was absolutely magic to first play with him and pose him and learn how to work with him.

But my latest boy, the head, was unpacked and sat on a shelf for a while. I brought his head with me everywhere for the first day I had him, yes, but he's been laying on my desk for a while now, painted, and I'm not playing with him. There is no more magic, he's just another pretty thing. The last full doll I had gotten was the same. It was exciting to open him but I didn't savour every shed layer of packaging, I didn't speechlessly run my fingers over the surprisingly smooth surface of the resin, I didn't feel the amazement that I used to. He was... again, just another pretty thing.

But my therapist told me this disconnection with my kids is because of my depression.

    10. I absolutely still have fun opening boxes! Of any kind, but especially if they have dolls in them! ^__^ After 50+ you'd think it would get old, but it's fun to unwrap and take them out and find they are everything you ever hoped for.

    11. I'm up to about 29 box openings now, only 11 of which were complete dolls; there's always a sense of excitement at any box opening but I'll admit it's the heads and the cmplete dolls which are the most exciting.

I've only posted two box opening photo shoots though; one was for Kai, my CP El, who was the first BJD I'd ever set my eyes on - so when I had the chance to buy him from his previous owner earlier this year, the wait and the box opening were even more thrilling than getting my first BJD nearly 5 years ago. The other photoshoot was a humourous one, when my CP Breakaway 05 vamp Perseus (who'd been borrowing a body) got to open the box for his own body at last. :)

Getting a complete, brand-new doll directly from a company is also pretty special - that lovely brand-new resin smell that wafts out of the box when you first open it is pretty unique. Only 5 of my dolls came brand-new, but my birthday present to myself this year is going to be a blank NS CP Lishe from Luts, so I'm really looking forward to her arrival.

One way of keeping that sense of fun about box openings is to space them out, I think; my last new arrival was a few months ago, so I'm looking forward to the whole order - track - arrival sequence and the wonderful sense of anticipation it brings. :)

    12. It is ALWAYS fun for me :D Especially when it's a doll I've been waiting to arrive for months!!

    13. I'm not as keen on taking pictures of it now, but its definitely every bit as fun. As a bonus, even though its still exciting, I'm not so nervous so my hands aren't shaking .

    14. box openings are the high lights of my weeks.

    15. Of course it's still fun. I got 8 and I get excited over all of them the same way I did with my first. It's a new thing and I get to open it and it always awesome. I don't go crazy with pictures like I used to, but there are still a few.

    16. i've had roughly 20 or so box openings and yes it's still fun everytime. I think I gave up being patient enough to take pictures as I was doing it so don't really post fun stories or things involving my box openings anymore, but always fun and exciting!

    17. I've never technically been through the bow opening thing yet....when I bought Pandora from Tokyolynn, I just kinda forgot about the box and began taking pictures. IDK why though...

I hopeI'll be able to go through my very first box opening when I get my DZ Hid though

    18. I just got my 4th and I gotta say I still open boxes like it's Christmas morning. xD

    19. Box opening is so much fun for me and I have 11 dolls. I have a 12th on the way and I have been checking the FedEx website like mad style. XD In fact, I think the whole checking the tracking status bit is just as fun as the box opening :lol

    20. Ahhh, always always. I only have three full dolls, but every box opening has been tons of fun, and I still like to take pictures of each one- the unopened box, then the first shot of the doll when I've gotten him or her out and dressed... etc. it's great!!
