1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is collecting BJD's your only hobby? Which hobby came first?

Jun 23, 2014

    1. I have always loved dolls of any kind. I had Barbies, and any other doll that appealed to me. I even tried to make cloth dolls by hand. I started collecting Madame Alexander dolls when I was in my early 20s. As far as other interests, there were all kinds of needlecraft (sewing, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, etc.). I had bunny collections, Santa collections, bears, frogs, and many more! Needless to say, I have downsized greatly over the years. Right now besides my bjds I collect owls and Blythe dolls.

    2. I have many hobbies that include photography, jewelry making, drawing, paper crafts, candle and soap making and doll collecting. My first hobby was jewelry making as when I was younger I would always get bead sets and thats when my love for that hobby started.

    3. I've lots of hobbies. The oldest is reading (real books!) and writing stories. I make jewelries, paint, make pyrography pictures, photography, etc... More or less in the same time with the BJDs, I started cosplaying, so I can use the skills from the older hobbies in a bigger creation. (I always had dolls, Barbies, porcelain dolls, handmade dolls... and now, I have everything: BJDs, Barbies (at home, my mom's house), MHs, EAHs, porcelain dolls (here and my mom's house, too), pvc figures, etc)

    4. Hmm, a lot of us seem to have similar hobbies :) I love trying anything artsy, so I've kept myself busy over the years with oil paints, water colours, pastels, fabric painting, diy stuff for around my room, etc. I've also been a huuuuge bookworm. I still read a lot of books but less compared to before. I also used to read a lot of manga, now I have one or two favourites which I stick to or I read one shots from time to time. Asian dramas too! BJD's are my latest hobby I guess :) I'm looking up everything from faceups to wig and dress making and can't wait to try them!

    5. I started collecting antique dolls, then moved into vintage Barbies. I attended Doll North two years ago and was introduced to bjd. Bjd dolls allow people to be creative and expressive. Collectors are very positive and enthusiastic and I find that great. Thanks to Den of Angels for providing us an opportunity to share our stories and our accomplishments!

    6. I also collect dollfie Dream mostly custom ones and nendoroid I love taking pics of nendoroid

    7. It is now. Ha! I can't afford more than one expensive hobby.

If we're talking beyond terms of collecting or purchasing, I enjoy all forms of art, cooking, and traveling. I also love researching and studying a variety of subjects---my true "hobby" is seeking knowledge, I guess.

    8. i have always been into art, story-writing and video games, so im big on the imaginative side of things. im hoping getting into bjds will rekindle my interest in the artistic hobbies i was once so into. it is exciting to try something new though!

    9. Drawing/painting is my first hobby, along with world building. That always will be first and most important as it's becoming my livelihood too, but I like to have my dolls as part of it. I want more childish ones to help me draw children's illustrations, they are great inspiration. I also just love having them sitting on my table while I paint. :) I might get a bit into sewing though....

    10. Besides BJDs (which are my biggest passion), I like drawing, writing, sewing, learning trivia and playing the piano.

    11. I like to cosplay, sewing, collect stuff animals and other cute adorable things. I have various stages where I also collects swords and fountain pens from time to time. Do reading Fanfiction count as a hobby? :sweat

    12. I'm into anime, and before the BJD hobby, I was into kpop and western bands. I was in the cosplay hobby briefly, but then BJDs took over my life and now, here we are :XD:

    13. I have quite a few different hobbies, some that have already been mentioned such as video games, manga, anime etc. But I would say my first hobby was sending postcards and collecting foreign currency. The BJD hobby started back in 2002 when I saw a table at an anime convention (very small and at the back) dedicated to info on BJDs but none were actually on display. After that I just started doing my own researching online and thought they were really neat.

    14. Like others here, some of my other hobbies include anime, manga, reading, etc. I also collect anime figures and wear lolita fashion.

    15. I hope it's still okay to post here!
I consider drawing my 'main' hobby, since creative self-expression has always been important to me. I'm also very much into animation. I collect a lot of stuff besides BJDs - Monster Highs, Ever After Highs, Sonic-related things, some MLP stuff and plushies, although I've tried to stop myself from buying any more plushies because otherwise I'd be drowning in them. :'D

    16. My first hobby was actually drawing. And I used to use BJD photos as references, then I decided to buy one for art reasons. And now I am definitely invested in them as their own thing! ^^ Never have actually drawn any of my own dolls xD

    17. Knitting has been my main hobby for many years and after my son got into the BJD hobby, I started designing clothing for his dolls, MSD and SD. Now that I have my own doll, a YOSD, I am enjoying designing and knitting tiny clothes and accessories for the little dolls!

    18. I have a few hobbies-sewing, embroidering, knitting, jewelry making (which includes making rosaries and chaplets), book binding, writing and reading. I really enjoy learning new skills and techniques. Several of these blend well with doll collecting and I might try making wigs or eyes for my dolls.

    19. Dolls are not my only hobby. I also collect vintage Japanese tin toy Robots, vintage cameras, and cosplay.

    20. I needle felt and cross stitch mainly but I have been known to sew as well as do a range of other crafts. I don't have my first doll yet but once I do I plan on doing everything for her myself. I will buy her one wig, an outfit and pair of shoes just to put her in once I have her just so she is decent x'D but props and other clothes/wigs I plan on making myself! as well as her face ups ^o^ doing everything myself is the primary reason I wanted to get into BJDs :3
