1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is collecting BJD's your only hobby? Which hobby came first?

Jun 23, 2014

    1. Oh, It's sad to hear! I hope you will find some time for crocheting for your bjds :)

    2. No, is not my only hobby but surely is one of the most expensive hobby !

      • x 1
    3. I have a few hobbies, and I believe my friend once mentioned that I have terribly expensive hobbies.

What came first in my life was probably reading. These days, I do a lot of:

Card games (yes, plural. Imagine the money dump); gundam; nendoroids (not so much recently); anime, video games, role playing games, board games and BJD. Of the lot, I have to say BJd has the highest start up costs. But card games has probably ruined my wallet first.

    4. My main and first "serious" hobby was, and is, collecting alpacasso! I have now found all the ones I want though so I don't have much else more to get there and the new releases from AMUSE don't really appeal to me. The alpacasso hobby has actually helped me quite a bit to ease into this hobby since in the alpacasso comity there is also a reselling market, rare things and bootlegs. Knowledge of alpacasso bootlegs was especially helpful when I was learning what recasts are.

    5. No. Honestly, since I'm not into doing faceups or making clothes or anything like that, I really can't see dolls ever being my only hobby. I mean, all I do with them is pose them, dress them up, and take pictures of them. And even the latter I don't do as much as I'd like, so dolls don't take up much of my time.

My largest hobby is video games, but I'm into lots of other things too.

    6. My hobbies are mainly reading, writing, and knitting, and I see this hobby as complimenting them nicely. ^_^

    7. Illustrator ! I always prioritize my work/hobby first as an artist ^^

    8. My main hobbies besides this one are cosplay, Japanese fashion (mainly lolita and fairy kei but I want to try menhera and uchuu kei), video games, and figure collecting.

    9. I started collecting my little pony, i have around 300 of them mostly Gen 1 and Gen 3, but when i got my 1st doll, i stop buying mlp cos i have no $$ cos i kept buying doll stuffs and new dolls! Bjd is a very different hobby compared to mlp, so much to do! Photographing, dressing up, faceup, sewing, build props etc

    10. I always loved dolls, but my mother decided to throw all my barbies away. When I got a little older, I began to collect pokemon cards, and I still do. I also collect BJDs, fashion dolls, and stuffed animals :)

    11. My first hobby was making art. I have been drawing and painting as long as I can remember. Other hobbies I enjoy are playing video games, listening to music, collecting figures, reading, dancing, exercising, fashion, traveling, photography, web/graphic design, and skincare.

    12. I used to collect porcelain dolls when I was a teenager, but sort of lost interest by the time I reached my early twenties. I've always been obsessed with writing, though, and in my twenties I became obsessed with writing fanfiction. I also collected anime and manga for a long time, until I discovered BJDs. I haven't bought nearly as much anime/manga since starting the BJD collection, I've even sold a bunch of them off. I'm still obsessively writing fanfiction, though (despite that I have numerous half-finished novels that really need my attention...) ^_^;

    13. I started collecting Blythes, I had a big family of these but lately I've been downsizing them to get more bjd.

    14. The 1st one is a J-rock band, I really into them for years. It always comes first.
Maybe dolls includes BJDs are 2nd; BJDs, Pullip/Dal/Byul, Obitsu11s. No more collecting "dolls", but clothes and some stuffs.
3rd is collecting Japanese clothes; Kimono, Yukata, Obi, and stuffs. I can wear them by myself and I love to collect them.
4th is playing musical instruments and drawing pictures.

    15. As well as a collector of various types of dolls i'm also a vintage toy collector, mainly toys from the 80's/90's from my own childhood. In addition I collect some modern toys/figures and cute ornaments such as pocket dragons, tatty teddy, fairies etc. I'm also a big sci-fi fan, be it TV shows, movies or books.

    16. Well the bjd hobby didn't come first. My Barbie, pin/button, and sock collections came first. My Barbie collection probably set me on track for other doll hobbies..

    17. Fishkeeping was definitely my first hobby. That was my only hobby till just the past few years. Its kinda exploded now. Started with crochet, then sewing. Then i discovered bjds, so i got into resin eyes and resin ponds. The resin got me into polymer clay. Theres still a bunch of things i want to try as well.

    18. My first hobby I guess was art when I was a teenager. Paint and mixed media. Just something on canvas/wood/wall. Next was skateboarding. Time overlap here. Later was riding motorcycles. Followed by restoring/rebuilding old British motorcycles, which paid my way through school. I made some electronic music along the way when that became popular. Oh yeah, forgot to mention sewing, just simple stuff. And a little gardening. Since working 9-5 jobs, I've restored old Kirby vacuum cleaners (1st generation: 1945-1967) for pleasure. I know it sounds weird but just google images "Kirby 505" and you'll see how pretty they are. Now restoring an old Italian espresso machine, the kind with the lever, again for pleasure. I like to play games, strictly board/card games, nothing electronic/screen. And collecting various things: Old vacuum tube and transistor radios, 1980's skateboards, vacuum cleaners of course, old records (like 78rpm), old books, big eyed girl paintings, dolls/figures, and some other stuff I'm likely forgetting. I have an old "canned ham" camper/trailer and go to some vintage camper rallies. I still have a few motorcycles, one with a sidecar, as per my profile picture.

    19. I'm brand new in the hobby. Before then (and still) I keep fish, have 4 tanks still. I like making felt food, crocheting, working with beads. Mostly all stuff that would be fun to use for a doll

    20. I have wanted a BJD for the longest time, and of course the one I wanted was a more expensive one and too far out of reach for my single income family. I couldn't justify it. So I turned to G1 My Little Ponies and two custom Pullip Fairies. I have over a hundred ponies. Then some one locally listed a BJD 1/4 scale and I fell in love with her. She's not the SD doll I first wanted, but I'm more happy with her. She is the perfect size and I'm able to put her in a safe place from my 3 and 5 year old kiddos. It would be much more difficult for me to home a larger doll.
