Is collecting BJD's your only hobby? Which hobby came first?

Jun 23, 2014

    1. I have two hobbies really! I am very much into art and now that I have my first doll I am venturing into making clothes and a diorama for him, so I guess my art hobby came before the doll one!

    2. I have quite a few hobbies! Video games, anime, gardening, photography. The BJD hobby is something a little newer for me. I wanted to get into the BJD hobby when I was a teenager, but I didn't know a lot about them yet or how to get one at that time. I've always loved dolls since I was little so I kind of feel like I'm reliving my childhood in a way!

    3. My new hobby will soon be collecting bjds (Once I finally get one lol).
But I love to draw, do some 3d animation (I have to go back to doing it again. I've been so busy), writing stories, crafting things whenever I can, play video games (Omg I play a lot of computer MMOs. You can add me on league of legends... I need friends! ;A; My name is haijameh).

I for some weird reason love learning new English words. 0-0 Same goes for French (I know quite a lot of French words, but I am so bad at my speaking skills. I tend to forget the words on the spot because I'm so nervous and thinking in English instead of the target language. qwq I'm also bad at a few verbs.)

My last hobby (I think it's the last) is learning new things.

But yeah, I think those are all... I think. 0-0

If I remember anymore, I will add more.

    4. I have many hobbies. BJDs are actually my newest hobby. Some of the others are collecting crystals, photography, art, fountain pens, certain video games (Pokemon and Animal Crossing), virtual pet games online, tarot, making jewelry, etc. My interests in hobbies tends to wax and wane over time so I'm not actively participating in all of these. The problem with having so many hobbies is I tend to accumulate a lot of "stuff" for them, creating clutter in my room. Especially for the collection-related ones. I was hesitant to introduce another that would require a bunch of physical "stuff". But I've really wanted BJDs for nearly 10 years so I decided to try and sell or donate old hobby stuff I no longer use instead. I have a whole box of crystals I need to donate to a school and I've joined a tarot swap group on facebook. I need to list some of my decks... With BJDs the reason I want to limit the amount of dolls I have is to limit the clutter in my house. I need to also try and be concious of the amount of accessories I get for them. There are ways to have fun in this hobby without buying new dolls/stuff for my dolls all the time.

    5. I've collected a bunch of things, mostly toys and animation merch in my lifetime. As of right now I'm slowly parting with my Dal dolls. It seems like bjd's will be my main doll thing in the near future. I collect 90's Furbies as well. I have a load of random stuff in my apartment but the Furbies and bjd's are the ones I'm actually actively inviting in right now. :D

My other hobbies are various dog sports and training (I have two poodles), running (every now and then), drawing and painting and I also blog but I've gotten a bit lazy even though I love writing. I've also taken up reading. I used to read a lot but then Things got in the way. I'm glad I'm getting my focus back slowly. I also play Pokémon and I've been into the franchise since the days of Pokemania. These are pretty much my regular activities, but I also like going to the movies, theatre and art galleries every now and then.

    6. Aside from dolls I like to cosplay... so I have two expensive hobbies. xD I also love to game, read and go on hikes to do nature photography! There's art too, but I don't consider that a hobby anymore since I intend to make it my job.

    7. i have very many hobbies i sew embroider do art i cook and bake i game alot x.x and i love anime i also make cosplays for conventions but all in all my hobbie of sewing was my first ever hobby my mum taught me to hand sew then i dont it in school for a little bit then i disided to go to college and i absolutely loved it being abe to make clothing and patterns makes me so happy and its quite relaxing <3

    8. My other hobbies are gaming, drawing, and writing. It's good to have some variety.

    9. For a long time I had no hobbies and spent most of my time being really bored. But my first hobby came about when I was 13 and introduced to cosplay! Next came reptiles, which I consider both pet owning and a hobby. Then I got into 3D printing and modeling. Now finally I'm in the toy/doll collecting hobby (and by extension bjd). So I've got my work cut out for me, have too little time and never enough money :...( But I couldn't be happier and I'm never bored!
(I also read and play video games but these are more minor hobbies)

    10. I'm a Muay Thai practitioner for 4 years. I got my first doll last year. It is kind of weird for a Muay Thai practitioner to have bjd as a hobby.

    11. My main hobbies are bjds and lolita fashion. I became interested in them both at the same time, but I didn't have funds for both way back then, so I focused on amassing a decent sized lolita wardrobe first. Now I want to focus more on bjds and making clothes for them. I also do a bit of vintage My Little Pony collecting as well as 80's Barbies.

    12. This is a good question. Although I've always loved barbies. i wouldn't stay it was a hobby. my first hobby was drawing( not well mind you) then i started making stories and i had a lot of fun with that. at that point i started reading more, Anime then reading manga then I wanted to learn to Knit .. but i hated it then learned to crochet and i loved it.. i made dolls .. then I got into the BJD hobby and now i sew as well.

so ... Drawing(still not well) writing, crocheting, sewing, BJD.

    13. My main hobbies is gaming (but decreased), lol, mainly dollies and taking pics of them.
I also collect and play with different kinds of dolls, not only bjd, but also dollfie dreams, blythes, mui chan, and kikipops.

Sometimes, i think i have too many hobbies, and i feel like i should concentrate on less hobbies.

    14. I'm an artist (though the line is blurred there between hobby and profession) and I collect off-topic dolls (Mainly Living Dead Dolls and articulated anime figurines), so collecting and customizing bjds was an obvious best-of-both-worlds situation for me. I'm mostly a digital artist, though, so working with something 3 dimensional and using traditional mediums is really refreshing!

I'm also really into video games (playing Splatoon and Borderlands pretty obsessively rn and waiting impatiently for Yokai Watch 3 to be localized) but I don't think that really ties much into my bjd collecting, lol

    15. well... i have been drawing since i was a teeny tiny girl (earliest memory 4 year old) & it has somewhat become my life. i also liked dolls since i was little, but i wasn't a very thoughtful child, so a lot of my dolls ended up getting decimated & when i turned 8, my mom had stopped buying dolls for me. other than that, i am also into reading books, manga & anime, & because my mom is a seamstress, i also learned to sew since i was very young.

anyway, growing up & almost all throughout school, i concentrated more on drawing, so i stopped playing with dolls for quite a number of years. but i still like them though, so i look at pictures & read about them whenever i have the chance. until i turned 16 or 17, i started making doll dresses for my sisters to play with. & i discovered that i was quite good at it, even sold a few to my mom's customers.

but i only discovered bjds in my 20's, from an article in a magazines. that was also when i discovered the internet & started researching on them. at first owning a bjd seemed like a pipe dream for me, but somehow by doing commissions & art related jobs i managed to get my first bjd in my late 20's, & it all started from that.

& since drawing has now become the job, so bjd became the hobby.

    16. My first hobby has always been art until recent years, I've slowly been falling out of love with doing it, it just feels like such a chore to do now. Other than that I've been gaming and of course collecting dolls as my secondary hobbies.

    17. I haven't actually bought my first doll yet (Why is money so hard to come across? :...( )
But My current hobby is Reborning! I started collecting Reborn dolls in 2012 and while pinning some dolls on pinterest I came across BJDs and have been in love since! Still trying to get my first doll and I reallyyy want to do faceups one day. I already paint reborns which at least gives me experience is 3D canvases but not much more is similar sadly.

    18. ... is studying English lit at university a hobby? :eusa_sile (you can hear my career prospects crying in the corner)
I knit, crochet, and sew, and I do some creative writing and amateur photography! I'm also a pretty adept baker, and I occasionally dabble in scale miniatures, woodworking, and art.

    19. I have several hobbies, and back then when I discovered BJDs Lolita fashion was my favorite thing. One day, Volks had a cooperation with a Lolita brand and so I found BJDs in one of the GoLoBibles. Browsing the internet, I found DollZone dolls. And ever since, this company stole my soul.

My other hobbies are drawing, sewing, crafting, photography and gaming. Nearly all of them can be covered by the doll hobby, which is quite relaxing for me!

    20. BJD's are a very new hobby tor me, but I feel they where just the next logical step for the path I'm currently on.
I'm an amateur writer and have been since I was fairly young (roughly 10 or 11). During that time I developed a few prototype characters. Those few prototype characters stuck with me, and I soon got into drawing as well, mainly so I could try and visualise them on paper to show my friends and others.
When I got to highschool I started to experiment with those characters-I started to buy Monster High dolls that I thought looked like them, and tried using different fashions on them etc to have a sense of what they'd look like and what clothing styles suited them. A sort of visual aid.
Finally I ran into BJD's when I was at college after I'd finally solidified who my characters where. Now I wanted to make a doll that looked just like them so I could always remind myself to keep writing and continue my dreams. Since then, I've been looking for the perfect sculpts that I can alter to become a visual representation of them. So really, BJD's where just a natural progression for me.
