1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is collecting BJD's your only hobby? Which hobby came first?

Jun 23, 2014

    1. I've written a comment on this thread before, but I kind of forgot one, because it's somewhat part of the board games that I like.

I collect Middle Earth CCG cards. It started when the game just came out (1995, I was 12 years old then) and I'm still buying cards today, even though this game is no longer available. It helps that Middle Earth is a really fun, albeit involved, game. The artwork on the cards is what pulled me into this, however. So beautiful @_@.

    2. All my hobbies seem to revolve around toys and art! :) I also collect virtual pet toys like tamagotchis! I feel like most of my hobbies can roll into each other and balance each other nicely! Making things for my dolls takes up a LOT of my time at the moment! :)

    3. My first hobby was probably sewing. When I was little my cousin and I would sew clothes for Barbies and then we moved on to purses for ourselves and now I do my own cosplay and such. After that I came across the wonderful world of miniature building. There's thee room kits, I want to say maybe 1/12? And using the wood and cloth provided you make these mini rooms. When I came across BJD, it was kind of the perfect addition to the crafting world I was already used to. Plus, they're just so cute!

    4. I have a fond love for the Transformers franchise and that all but kickstarted my love for collecting toys. There's something that's just so satisfying to see your favorite characters being brought to life, so to speak, you know?
Besides that, I have a love for drawing and writing, characters and worldbuilding in particular. I enjoy the creative output/freedom it gives me.
...So, BJDs really are a combination of my three favorite things, hehe. :)

    5. Is gaming a hobby? If so, that's my other.
I've been a gamer since I was little, so I guess that one came first, but it was put to one side until recently.

    6. My first hobby was manga/anime, which got me into drawing, writing, anime figure collecting, and cosplay. I first learned about BJDs from an artist I followed on deviantART years ago, so from then it was always in the back of my mind as something I'd like to get into in the future. Most of my hobbies have that creative aspect to them and I've always had a fondness for dolls and games with a dress-up component, so BJDs seem like a pretty natural progression. I just got my first doll this year and I'm already having tons of fun customizing his appearance and designing clothing and accessories.

    7. Varied hobby ranging from reading to playing videogames. The dolls see those as a clothing catalog and I ended up adding sewing simple stuff and photography to the mix because of them. Granted I stop collecting smaller than 1/6 action figures because of both OT and resin dolls.

    8. Not my only hobby, just the latest in a long line of them. Reading, roleplaying games, cards, computer gaming, wargaming and so on. It's another form of art to explore really.

    9. BJDs aren't my only hobby or even my first attempt at collecting dolls. While I wasn't interested in dolls as a child I suddenly fell in love with antique dolls in 1986, collected those then moved into modern dolls & found BJDs thru a friend & progressed to them. I've also collected antique beaded & mesh bags, Roseville pottery, Autumn Leaf dinnerware, primitive antique furniture, mohair bears, vintage & antique costume jewelry & antique children's clothes. Almost all of that is gone now & I collected those things long before I ever started on BJDs. I had to downsize drastically when I moved.

I still like to sew, make jewelry, draw, read & generally try anything creative. I'm a graphic artist & that started long before any dolls, always loved to read since I first learned how but the sewing came directly out of my doll collecting as did the jewelry making.

    10. Nope, I wear Lolita Fashion too, I found out about bjd’s from a relative but didn’t get into the hobby until a fellow lolita at a meet showed me hers ^^ I game a lot too :D

    11. I don't have a lot of hobbies, but the ones I do enjoy are all quiet and creative ones: writing, drawing, and now the BJD hobby! I love art so the doll hobby is definitely a good way to enjoy other forms of art rather than just drawing and painting on paper.

    12. I play video games, read books, occasionally write down the stories in my head, and make cross stitch pictures.

    13. i have a lot of hobbies, but i am most passionate about bjd. I would say i spend all my extra time on bjds XD

    14. When I was little I used to collect barbies but I kinda gave up when my younger siblings came around. It just got disheartening to know that whatever doll I got wouldbe headless.

I got back into it after I became disabled because it allows me to enjoy my hobby of fashionand sewing without stressing myself out physically

    15. I've always been around dolls though never too interested in porcelain or plastic (my nan was a competition porcelian doll maker and general dressmaker) though I first collected teddy bears. My other hobbies in order of acquiring them are, drawing, gaming, jar collection, small scale woodwork, sewing(terrible at but still try), bjd, felting, and sculpting

    16. I would say a lot of the other hobbies I've got is due to the BJD hobby. A huge part of what drew me to these dolls were all the things you could do! You could paint, sew them clothing, photograph, make various props, make miniature jewellery, make shoes, and the list goes ever on.
I never used to sew as I do now, it was mainly repairs.
I never had ideas for making miniature furniture and props, I remember only once making a mini tent for my teddies along with sleeping bags.
I wasn't at all interested much in photography besides the odd picture here and there.
I love and thank this hobby for making my creative side flourish.

    17. Another gamer here! I've also always been really big into art and stuff. Painting, crafts and all that stuff. I think getting into the BJD hobby definitely had a part in motivating me to go out and try more new stuff.

    18. Doll hobby?

      LOTSOOO

My first doll hobby was Barbie~
      Then porcelain dolls
and then I started liking some Monster High dolls too and other dolls
I one day hope to own a Jumeau <3
Right now I'm into BJDs and Silkstone Barbies omg omg omg

    19. I used to do a lot of writing. Like, a lot. I remember writing fanfiction for Invader Zim when it first came out, among other things.
I wanted so badly to be a writer when I got older. But then as per usual, life got in the way.
Role Playing however, has been a thing that's been present in my life ever since I was... I'm not sure. About 12 or so? A friend of mine and I used to just pass a notebook back an fourth writing what we thought was a combined fanfiction. Really, it was role playing.
When Myspace came about, I discovered that a lot of people were RPing on there and decided to jump in on the fun. I've been RPing ever since. When Myspace went down, I moved to forums for a very short time, but had some problems there with the moderators playing favorites and literally not stopping someone from God-Modding my character. So I left. I tried Facebook for a short time, but didn't really like that.
Then tumblr happened. Sadly, Tumbr is a very very toxic environment and lots of things happened. I'm still there on a different blog, but I'm so busy that I don't have as much time to write as I did in the past.

And now I've stumbled upon the BJD hobby, which I really like because it's been inspiring me to try and write more again with my Girlfriend and a few other people. Also, on the days when I'm just too tired to function, I'll be able to sit and sew clothes for them without really thinking about anything. So I can still be creative without having to put too much focus on things.

    20. I have too many hobbies that I wish I had a clone of myself to be able to actually do them all. I like to draw digitally, paint, knit and crochet, scrapbook, sew and now bjd @_@;;;
