Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Is collecting BJD's your only hobby? Which hobby came first?

Jun 23, 2014

    1. I have many hobbies. Read novel, cooking, bakery, sewing, face up, make leather accessories, custom watch, collecting figure... etc.

And just now, I received my "Danbo" mini figure. It 's very cuteeee x3

    2. my first to my last hobby in order are drawing followed by sewing, japanese/chinese collection, anime/manga, then bjd's though I have to say right now bjd's is by far my fav at the moment.

    3. I think my first hobbies were reading, drawing and painting, and writing. Reading encompasses fiction and non fiction books, comics, and magazines. Drawing and painting includes sketching, fashion and jewellery design, watercolours (landscapes and flowers mostly) and acrylics (semi abstracts - mostly seascapes). I also seem to collect art equipment - I have more clutch/mechanical pencils than any one person could feasibly need (there's 8 in a pot on my desk, and I have about 4 or so more in my two sketching kits); I'm starting to build a collection of copics, I have all the colours in my favourite colour pencil series (Derwent's coloured graphite - they're all muted, natural colours with graphite showing through to a degree), plus paints, paint mediums, brushesโ€ฆ And I've collected a few more hobbies to go with those over the years: a lot to do with making and crafting (knitting, crochet, sewing, weaving, random other fibre crafts, jewellery making, just started getting into make leather bits and bobs, and so on), plus gaming and dolls.

On the one hand this means I'd really like more time to actually do more of these. On the other it means that if I get bored or fed up or just not in the mood for one hobby I have plenty of others!

    4. I had several other hobbies before getting into Bjds, and my bjds basically just helped me expand my current hobbies~

    5. Hobbies...oh dear. Well, I always liked crafty things, but I did not like dolls at all in the beginning. As horses came first, I started to make tack of all kinds for them. As I got my own horse, there was really no time for anything not related to him (no, not even a boy friend). I also did quite a bit of music (playing the piano and recorder), but that did not last.

After I had to sell my horse to to health and financial issues, our daughter was born. She is actually my biggest "hobby". Before BJDs, I was into model horses and searched for rider dolls (approx. 20 cm). So something jointed was needed. Well, I stumbled accross BJDs and particularly DOD Homme Ducan. I struggled for about 1.5 years of research and trying to convince myself that I do not need a BJD. Oh well, the rest is history. Now I am trying my hands at sewing, modding, painting (do not like it much), leatherwork, armour making. In short, everything you can do with or make for a BJD.

    6. I have many hobbies besides BJD's. The first hobby I started was collecting coins.

    7. I love to read, knit and sew. I didn't have any dolls when i was young so I guess that's why I love them now. I purchased a dawn doll and a penny brite and then I found BJD's and fell in love. So now I can write about them, sew and knit for them.

    8. I love reading and buying books to... and i'm also in plenty of fandoms and I really want to get a reborn doll at some point in the next two years...
Right now i'm mostly interested in bjd's though and other than the splinter series the only books i'm allowing myself to get are ones that i'm missing from a series. at least this year...

    9. Cosplay is my main hobby, followed by lolita with BJDs coming in third. Unfortunately all three are SUUUPER expensive @_@ My poor bank account cries a lot.

    10. Gaming is in my bloodstream. Figuratively and (half jokingly) seriously. One of the things my mother did a lot when I was still in her womb was playing the NES. I've been playing games as early as I can remember and apparently even sooner- I was told that I'd sit there holding a controller thinking I was playing and if someone didn't plug in a 2nd controller for me to hold while they played first player I'd get peeved off that nothing on the screen was moving...temperamental baby I must've been.

I digress. I loved reading books ever since I was 7 (to the point that I read myself right into a pair of glasses at 8 by reading in bad lighting) and around the age of 9 or so I got into gardening. Well, as much as throwing random seeds in the ground after halloween and watering the pumpkins that grew can count as gardening. Wasn't until I was older that I did things more um...structured. What else...freshman year in high school I got hooked on anime and a few years later manga reading, and sewing as well. I used to make little hand puppets out of old jeans. Writing and drawing got picked up along the way as well, along with sculpting clay.

It wasn't until late 2014 that I decided to pursue BJDs seriously despite having an interest in them for years and years, nor will it be the last hobby I take up. I've sworn I'll teach myself how to play the piano and violin before I kick the bucket and I've already got my eyes on the perfect electronic keyboard (I prefer them because of the headphone jacks, no one needs to hear me practice...I'm not that much of a sadist.) Violin will have to wait until I'm ready to shell out more money on instruments after the keyboard.

That's pretty much it. I do serve as a GM on a private server for an mmo but honestly that feels more like work than a hobby...

    11. I started with collecting bryer horses as a little girl then soon grew to love anime from seeing inuyasha for the first time then I became serious about anime being what I want to do for the rest of my life, then came BJD's those lovely beauties that came to be my second love (^^'

    12. My first hobby was collecting beanie babies (age 6), then reading(age 12), stopped collecting beanie babies because the dog we got when I was 10 ate them all, I have collected porcelain dolls(age 14), in high school I collected anime and manga(age 14-17), and crocheting(age 19), then beanie babies again (age 22 after beloved dog passed away) and now BJDs!(age 23)

    13. My first hobby was collecting stuffed animals and book. When I got into anime at the age of 13, I was collecting button pins and stickers. Now that I'm older, I stopped collecting button pins and started collecting art books instead and since I'm into KPOP, I'm also collecting albums of my favorite KPOP band, B2ST and now, I've added BJDs to the list. (Holy cow I have expensive hobbies)

    14. I have many hobbies. I collect Oh Penny! (Oh Jenny! in U.S), china dolls, anime, manga, sewing, knitting and crochet. As a child I had a large button collection. I'm also a gamer (mainly Final Fantasy and Atelier games.) I also enjoy cooking and baking and like reading - Anne Rice books especially. Also play Magic the Gathering card game and Pathfinder. I only have the one china doll now and my Oh Penny! collection is nearly complete so I don't actively do those anymore but I always find time for the others by rotating them in my free time. BJDs are relatively new though. I've been interested in them for a few years but only recently have I bought any. Gaming came first for me though. I grew up surrounded by consoles and games. I don't have any friends in real life who own bjds but my friends are pretty quirky so I doubt they'd have a problem if I bring them along.

    15. I've been involved in lots of hobbies. Drawing, writing, and cosplay are the main ones. I'm trying to get better at sewing. I also collect empty Ramune bottles (I have 30-some-odd unique labels), and I've dabbled in Sculpey sculpting and amateur photography in the past. All told, I feel like BJD collecting is kind of an accumulation of all the things I want to do. ^^

    16. I love to draw, read and try out new crafting stuff. As far a collecting goes, I collected My Little Pony as a kid and still sometimes add to my collection today. I've also gotten into all kinds of dolls. Not just bjd.

    17. Well, I first got into fanboy-ing KPOP. I have and always will be. I collected some of the idols albums. I am also into dancing, its more of a passion than a hobby. Then not until this year that I decided I'd get my first doll. I am also into gaming. I try to have time for all of my hobbies and will definitely stay passion.ate about them, I dunno, until I get too old I guess(but I would still do something by that time) :)

    18. I am a gamer,I like to play games, but I fall in love with doll when I search the character I very like in a game.the character was made into BJD doll,so I get another hobby.I collect dolls I like and let dolls cosplay the charcaters I like in games.

    19. My hobby consisted of drawing, playing video games, reading books hence writing stories, and playing the piano. Baking is also a part as well. I also collected shiny things that interested me like marbles, jewels, bottles, etc. When BJD came into my life, that was also the same time I picked up making stuff out of polymer clay.

    20. Collecting started with Pokemon back in ... 2009? Sounds right. That went on for about 2 years, then Black & White hit and I got overwhelmed and kind of disappeared. Still have my whole collection out on display, though. It's my pride and joy.

I shuffled around here and there a bit, and landed on MLPs. I don't really actively collect these anymore, either. These are also still on display. Thanks to the MLP collecting, I ended up on a forum that had a sideboard for dolls. I initially became interested in Monster High and collected those for a very short while. I ended up selling all of them off because the distribution was so terrible it was more stressful than fun to collect them, but they lead me into BJDs.

Around the same time I got into anime figure collecting thanks to that same forum. Ha ha! I actively (sometimes a bit too actively) collect the anime figures currently. It's super-hard to balance two expensive hobbies, but it's so worth it. I love my anime figures!

I also enjoy video games, tabletop RPGs, collecting animated films, fangirling over anime/tv/movies, blogging, reading, dancing (belly dance), sewing, and painting.
