It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is it Wrong to Buy an LE Doll to get LE Outfits?

Aug 20, 2007

    1. I tend to like a doll for its sculpt rather than for its outfit... and often the outfit is a substantial part of its price! So I think it's great when someone has the funds to buy the doll, remove the outfit and then sell the nude doll after.

What does bother me is when the person is asking the same price for the doll nude as it was clothed... but sometimes the market will certainly bear that!! >_<

All part of the collecting life, really. A luxury is a luxury and if you can't pay you can't play, however unfair it feels.

The neat thing is, surprisingly often, a bjd is highly valued for itself, and the clothes are incidental. That's not generally so in other genres of doll collecting, where a doll tends to be a generic "stick figure" in fancy dress!

    2. I think it's more sensible to just get someone here on DOA to make a replica of the outfit for you. Buying a whole doll you don't want just for the outfit is madness. Especially if someone really wanted that doll and you went and bought it without really wanting anything but the clothes.

    3. I don't think it's a crime in any way. Sometimes when looking at a doll I suddenly realize that what I really, really want is not the doll itself, but its clothes >_<
And I'd rather sell the doll to someone who really wanted it than kept it just because it's the owner of the clothes ^_^; makes everyone happy, I believe.

    4. absolutely not! Then others migth get a chance to have that doll they reallly wanted, even if it doedn't have the clothes.

    5. It's done all the time with fashion dolls.

    6. Haha! More often than not I like the outfit on an LE doll more than the doll itself! Actually, it seems a lot of the time the doll is just a glorified hanger for the outfit (unless you count dolls like Soom that actually change the doll mold). So no, I don't think you are alone/wrong in wanting just the outfit of an LE doll.

    7. I know I'm just reiterating what many people have said but it's a great idea for two people to get what they want. Try and find someone who wants the doll on the forum maybe? Either way if you sell the doll at a reasonable price (minus the cost of the clothes) someone will give them a loving home in no time.

    8. Conversely, I have sold LE outfit to get only a doll...:sweat I think there are many people who want only LE outfit/doll.

    9. I don't think its wrong at all, probably an expensive way to get an outfit but in the end you are happy and the person who bought the doll from you is happy so what's wrong with that? :D

    10. No, I don't think it is wrong to buy a LE doll just to get that outfit. As long as you're not hurting someone, it's not wrong at all.

    11. I don't see any problem with this

    12. no! Because if someone wants one part and someone else wants the other part then money is saved!

and money saved means i can spend MORE money on doll stuff......

      bwahahahha

cause i'm not obsessed or anything

    13. How about eyes and bodyXD I love the nia dollfie but its more so her eyes and uniqueness. As far as Im concerned its totally ok to buy an LE for its outfit... if one is willing to pay the price:p...

    14. That's why there is splitting ^_~

Nopes, if you're willing to pay, I personally do not really care.

    15. I am new to BJD but have collected dolls for over 20 years.
I bought a doll not BJD that was a LE of 200 for the outfit made by LoveSong. The outfit was wonderful but the doll did not thrill me. If I had waited for the secondary market to get the outfit I would have spent more for the outfit then the complete set went for. I put the nude doll on Ebay at a .99 opening bid and it sold for more than I originally paid for the set. I did not set out to scalp, I did not set the price the market for the doll did.
After 20 years I have found there is no wrong way to collect dolls. I have also learned you will Never please everyone nor should you try. As long as you are not financially getting over your head buy what ever makes you happy and don't worry about pleasing everyone. It can not be done.
I collected Barbie for years and people would get mad that people deboxed platinum label dolls. If I paid for the doll and wanted to touch, display, redress or customize her I stopped caring what others thought.
Make your collection your own or it will never truly bring you happiness. The most important question is does buying a LE for the outfit make you happy. if the answer is yes, go for it and enjoy.

    16. yep, im another that agrees- I dont see anything wrong with that. I'd probably consider the same if i have the money! Its a shame you cannot simply purchase the clothes on their own when the doll is out. but then agian, it does make the clothes more special and linked to the doll with the way they do it at the moment.

    17. I don't think there is anything wrond to do this. As everyone noticed there are lots of spliting orders arround. There are many people who rather want the doll itself than the outfit but just missed the releasing date. As long as dolls been sold in a reasonable price, it's totally fine, to me.

    18. No, it is not wrong. If you really want that dress and you think you can cough that much money on a LE if you can't find someone to split it w/, then why not? I currently want lots of clothes from Rosette but unfortunately, they come w/ dolls. So i'm trying to save money to buy the whole set, keep what I like and sell the rest. But if it's one of those one-off things then maybe it's quite not right still, the buyer might only like most of it.

    19. Well, no. If you don't like the doll but you got him/her for the outfit, you could still sell him cuz demand would be high. If it's a particularly sought after doll, you could even wait a couple months or so and sell him at greater market value if you see it fit.

    20. i generally think it is a real shame when the outfits are clearly worth more aesthetically in comparison to the dolls they are actually clothing! XD
