It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is there anywhere you refuse to take your doll? why?

Aug 10, 2008

    1. I'm not too concerned with what people think of an adult walking around carrying dolls, but just for safety's sake I don't really drag them many places.
I have taken them all to work with me before, one at a time, but mostly just to show my coworkers who were curious about them and wanted to see my sewing. They stay behind the counter out of the reach of customers and children.
Sometimes when I open it's very quiet and very lonely, so having a doll around is a nice comfort lol.

Now that spring is coming I want to take them further away than just my house to take pictures... still think I wouldn't go anywhere overly crowded though, but that's for my sake as well as my dolls' lol. I hate crowded places!

    2. For the amount of money involved, the dolls stay in the house unless it's time to move out! Leave it to me to have a "this is why we don't have nice things" moment if it were damaged because I just had to show it off.

    3. I tend to leave them home alot. Mostly because I get rides from my mother, I dont have a car, and my mom smokes and drinks coffee in her car. Both things I find disgusting and Id rather not have my dolls smelling like either of them... x.x So unless I am walking somewhere, they stay home most the time. I will not take them to somewhere where people smoke either.

    4. Lots of places.
But, I would have to say...
      Restrooms XD

neither my own or a public one, lol.

    5. My school, mostly cause I dont think it will go well.

    6. Work... because it is the most unsanitary place I could be... I used to take them to my old job, my co-workers and boss liked having them around too, but not where I work now. Otherwise, I'll take them anywhere.. I don't really feel strange/odd or whatnot at all about it. I don't have to worry about public bathrooms either haha XD; being the germaphobe I am, I can't -stand- using public bathrooms , so I don't.

    7. I would have to say most places. I am SUCH a Kluts. I worried I would break them, plus I worry they would get stolen. I travel for doll shows and the thought of them going thro the airport scares me! So I guess I am not a great example! I love how so many take there dolls places, wish I was not so afraid!:(
      Hugs

    8. Wal-Mart :| I refuse to take my boys to Wal-mart. We have too many stupid people where I live so I only take my boys out to places that are small or where I know the people that work there. :)

    9. i don't like taking them to dirty places and also places where i have to leave my bag unattended

    10. I wouldn't take them to any place they might get damaged of course ;-; or anywhere where there might be a lot of sun ;-; or rain or any of those harsh elements. Definitely not school because I really don't think it'd be a safe environment. LOL I think that my list of where I would take them would be much shorter that my list or where I would not xD

    11. My friend's son's first birthday party. A little seven year old girl said dolls were for little kids. I guess I felt the same when I was a kid, trying to act all grown up and too tough for dolls. Now I have come full circle.

    12. Well, I wouldn't really take my dolls anywhere public. I don't see the point actually. I have a lot of teddy bears besides my dolls, and I don't bring them with me places either. The only times I take my dolls out of the house is for photography. I don't know if it matters that much that I'm a grown woman or not, but I guess I'm just one of those persons who brings with me cake, flowers or a bottle of wine if I'm bringing something special with me :) And my dolls are more a part of the interior I guess so it wouldn't feel right to bring them places.

    13. I wouldnt carry them anywhere that could possibly threaten their life. Eg: out in the sun. Out in places with shmuckk and dog poo... anywhere life threatening... especially kids who'd mistake them for toys.. one can play with one's dolls but not the way a kid might throw it against a wall and such...

    14. I've taken my boys to Chucky Cheese twice now lol. I let them sit on napkins on the table and keep them pretty much in my hands the rest of the time. I'm such a clean freak so yeah don't want a doll falling into a pizza or anything. XD;

I'm wanting to take my dolls to Disney World in May but worry about the heat and sun. Maybe little umbrellas, heavy coats and sunglasses lol.

    15. I only take my dolls out with me anymore if I'm going somewhere by myself or with someone who isn't bothered by the stares. I still use sense when I bring dolls out because I know that a 20 something carrying around a doll will never cease to look weird. I'll take my dolls to stores where I either work or know most of the staff, fabric stores, and certain family member's houses. On occasion I'll take one to a restaurant, and that's usually because I happened to have the doll with me and had to park too far from the building for my own comfort. In those cases I sit by the wall with the doll between me and the wall so he isn't distracting.

There are several places I will not take my dolls, those places being : Graveyards (I don't care if you do. Don't care if I don't, m'kay?), schools, shops for my other hobbies (tattoo/piercing parlors, photography stores, medical supply stores, home decor shops), hospitals, most family gatherings, churches, museums (including art museums), and restrooms. Generally, I'll think about where I'm going, why I'm going there and who I may run into, and I'm usually very accurate. I bring my dolls to Wal-mart on occasion because I work there and my coworkers get a kick out of them, but today I had to step in on my day off and felt that it wouldn't be a good idea to bring Elijah into the store with me. Sure enough, while I'm walking toward the store I run into one of my old friends who just returned from his second tour in Iraq. This is the man that knew I wanted to be in the military more than anything, and that I might have had to explain to a hardened soldier why his Ms. Rambo is now collecting dolls instead of shooting guns at the range and working out gives me chills. I just don't do awkward situations very well at all.

    16. I only take my dolls to meets...they don't go anywhere else.

    17. There are really only a few places I wouldn't take my doll. I used to say no to all restaurants, but certain ones are okay now. I only bring her in for certain circumstances. Like, if I'm at a friend's house, I'll leave the doll there if we go out to eat, but if I'm already out, I'll bring her in. Places like the beach, I would not. Much as I'd love to do a shoot, it's a load of scratches waiting to happen.

I won't walk around with her places where she could get stolen. I go to school in a bad area and though my campus is pretty safe, and I can have her out sometimes, I would not walk in the surrounding area with a doll. In general, it's not a good idea to attract attention to oneself like that. The only times I bring a doll with me to school is for good luck, and even then, she stays in the bag.

In my actual hometown no one seems to think it's super weird, so I bring her out from time to time.

    18. A lot of people especially locals look at me weird, but I absolutely refuse to go to an abjd meetup being held at our local American Girl store bistro... Sure if I'm trying to size out a piece of furniture from AG for one of my dolls or trying to go in to see if something would work for one of them, sure it'd take them in with me, but probably haul them in my purse till I needed them, but I think of it as disresepctfull personally to go have a meetup for a specific type of doll in a store meant for a completely different specific type of doll. It's like why volks don't want any other types of dolls in their stores, I mean most people can respect that.

    19. I wouldn't take them to school with me mostly because my campus is HUGE and I am already lugging so much stuff....also wouldn't take them anywhere with unknown kids.....Or a restaurant....for some reason a having my boy out at a restaurant kinda freaks me out I think it is because restaurants always make me think of dirty greasy hands and possible food/drink spills...I would be a nervous wreck!!

But I don't think I would have a problem carrying him around out of his case....I have a customized violin case...and trust me I got enough looks carrying around a violin case...people say the same thing to me...
"You are either musical or that's a machine gun"

I smile and respond "I'm tone deaf"

    20. I refuse to take my dolls to the mall. So many possibilities of them being taken. Im not so worried about Corvas and Wolf because they were under $20, and small. But Jareth, my heart longs to do a photo shoot of him at the water fountain but I know someone would take him, or try to take him. Plus as picky as he is about doing photo shoots, he might decide to go swimming. I would also want to do a photo shoot of him on a carousel at the mall. *sighs*
