Is there anywhere you refuse to take your doll? why?

Aug 10, 2008

    1. I don't think I'd mind taking mine to a place like the mall where people might stare, but overall mind their own business. I'd be more wary about taking one to school, because of all the jostling between classes and the risk of being stolen or improperly handled. Also, at my school teasing and rumors are already a problem for me.

    2. I only take my dolls places that I feel they really fit in. To a doll meet, or to an anime convention for example.

    3. Outside.Period.

    4. i wouldnt tae my doll anywhere that is busy and full of people in a rush like; the mall during a weekend or holiday weekend, a theme park, zoo or a concert but ive taken it to schoola few times so my friends could see they love dolls

    5. There are many places I refuse to take my doll, like my job especially with kids running around and my relatives houses.

    6. probably downtown ^^;
it's scary downtown and people will mug you for anything ><; From money, to clothes, to mini donuts! i'm sure a doll will be no difference XD

    7. I've noticed, quite a few people here seem to have similar issues with rumors and being misunderstood at school (or by people in general). I would take mine to school merely because there are some other people in my school who own them, so I would go and sit with them. But I wouldn't let many other people see (good luck with that one o_0). I'd only show my close friends simply to avoid questions or people saying gay things like, 'why the hell did you buy a barbie for 300£' or other crap along those lines.
I would also avoid taking it to my relatives' house because I wouldn't want them to say anything stupid. Some of them are EXTREMELY backwards in their beliefs, and would deem it as witch craft or some other stupidness along those line ¬_¬

    8. I used to take my boys to our local Hastings, but I've decided not to anymore because that's where all the town anime freaks hang out. The last time I took Folken he ended up getting passed around (without my permission) It kind of irritated me so I don't take him there anymore.

    9. School AND work.
School because 1000+ people cramped into the tiny building that actually is my school makes carrying a doll (even in a bag) a dangerous task. Plus my school is full of a bunch of small minded chavs, so it's best not to risk them attempting to break my dollie in anyway
and work because I doubt he would survive one minute without getting grime on him in the animal park. Plus I'm pretty damn sure the joyous animals I get to work with would eat him without even looking at him XD <3

    10. I refuse to take my dollies with me if we stop by Walmart. People coming in through the exit door and out through the enter door can get people killed as it is *_*

    11. Probably the only place I don't drag my dolls around to is the grocery store because I don't want them to get dirty. When I run errands, I'll usualy try and do it all in one trip... So if one of those stops is the fabric or craft store and I need to have one of my dolls with me for size/color reference, then that means they get to go everywhere else, too. I'm more paranoid about someone breaking into my car and stealing my doll than I am about what people might think of a 30 year old woman hefting around a very large doll! As a general rule, I don't like to take my dolls into restraunts because of possible food spills, but Rylin's been to Macaroni Grill once or twice. Last year, my BF and I used to have dinner every friday night at the same restraunt and I more often than not had Rylin with me. All the waitresses knew him and us and would ask how he was doing.

I've had my dolls in WalMart (someone even asked me I bought them there!) several times, usually browsing to a new toy or bit of something for a craft project. Like I said, I'd rather get weird looks than worry about them being stolen out of my car. Lucien's been to the movies... a last minute decision by my friends and I already had him with me. Rylin's been to Disneyland. It was awesome! They've all been to Target at various times.

Maybe I'm lucky, because I haven't experianced any of the "bad" reactions that others seem to have. Or it could be that I just don't care. So, no, there isn't really anywhere I wouldn't take them unless it was likely that they would get really dirty. But since I do all my own face-ups and sewing..... I might still consider it.

    12. I don't have my doll yet, so I don't have a lot of experience, but the only place I can think of that I would not want to take my doll is a restaurant, because of the risk of grease and oil and "greasy humidity" in the air. I don't know.
I don't generally hang around places where there are kids, but that makes sense, not to take them to places like that where they can get pawed OR the kids get upset if they can't paw.

GREAT cover. I love that idea. We do have a nice castle here that I would LOVE to take pictures at this summer with Iris (or whatever her name is going to be). If asked, I'll just tell people It's for a photography class or something. I don't think people would be even familiar with doll magazines around here.

That's cute!!! Never had that, but we did have a day in HIGH SCHOOL believe it or not, that we all brought our favourite rag doll/stuffed animal thing. Someone's idea of fun. And it was :) but it was a one-time thing.

Exactly what I was thinking. I am hoping my next "job" whatever that may be, will allow me to take my doll with me. I'm willing to "demote" to be happy :) I think a coffee shop would be an ok place, depending on humidity no?

I wonder what my fiancee would say if I were to grab the doll, dress her up, and take her with us lol
Difference is that you drive, and we take the bus, so I don't know how he would feel about people looking and commenting etc. But honestly, I would LOVE to take her everywhere with me, but I am bothered by what people might say or think or even do. What I might do is after I meet more people and have a few meets, MAYBE I'll enlist a friend to go out with, with the dolls. I think I'd feel better if the first few times I do it, I have someone with me that has the experience already :)

Oh yes... good point... I would take her to the mall. Probably not on a holiday weekend though. And the zoo and theme park would be cool places to take pictures, I just wouldn't go alone just in case. But definitely not to a concert. I don't think BJD's and mosh pits would be a good mix lol

    13. Personally, I don't have any place that I won't bring my dolls to, except for some obviously crowded places like concerts.

Unlike many, I have no problem bringing them to the mall in my country (At least in my area:sweat). Children here don't jump on you to take a look at the doll or even dare to touch it. Trust me, before they try or manage to get close to you, their parents would have killed them.:|

However, I do find myself a bit reluctant to have my dolls in outdoor locations like a park and such, especially when I see the sun is smiling happily at me. I treat my dolls like a vampire.*_*

    14. I suppose the only places I would refuse to take my dolls are places where I know they will be seen as inappropriate or where I know that they will not be respected.
For example, while it would be fun to bring a doll along to my weekly D&D game I know that my DM hates my dolls, to the degree that he threatens to break them when I have them around, so out of respect for him and my dolls I wouldn't take them with me.

    15. Wow o__o i think some people are much too hard on kids.

I've let my 4 year old sister and many strangers hold my dolls on many occassions and never had a problem xD

the only accidents with them have occurred due to MY fault *fail*

Uhm... I take my dolls practically severywhere xD College, Work (primark whoo!), just out and about in town, holiday...

I think i worry more about taking my dolls into a public toilet than anything else. I don't use public toilets unless i REALLY have to. I don't like them >A<

    16. Ewww. Some of them are.... well..... "public" to the extreme lol
I don't like going in some of them by myself, let alone with a doll, or a kid or even a pet. Ewww.
In those occasions is when I think some kind of a doll sling would come in handy, so I don't have to put her down ANYWHERE. Ewww! lol Sorry, brought back memories of the last time I HAD to go into one of those. Oh gawd eww.

    17. I take my dolls to school and work just fine, but I would never want them with me during any family gathering ._.
I have a lot of 'grabby-handed' cousins who like to try and take my things anyway, so my dolls are totally out of the question. And then there are family members and friends of the family who don't know about my hobby and I would rather not spend my time with them answering 20+ questions (x_x) But if I did have a doll on my during that situation, hopefully it's one of my normal, 'blasé' dolls that don't have an elaborate backstory and that I can lie about the cost :'D

    18. I gotta be honest on this one: I don't take my dolls anywhere with me. Well I took Sasha and Fairuzza out to a local park/garden for a photoshoot once last year, but that's it. The idea of bringing one of them to work strikes me as absolutely abhorent, lol and completely unnecessary. I'm like 31, but even if I was in school I would feel absolutely no need to bring my dolls to school with me either. I just don't feel the need to display them about.

More often I think that bringing them out and about will just lead to them getting damaged, stained, breaking a finger (goddess forbid), etc. And for me, I love my dolls and they are somewhat of an investment to some degree. Like little treasures.

For me, there's just no need. I mean, I do decorate my desk at work with action figures and small things within reason, but never once has it ever occurred to me to bring any of my ABJD's to the office.

Part of me thinks I'm just not in the mood for people looking at me sideways since I'm a grownup with large unusual dolls.
I don't need the extra attention, the extra questions from strangers, any of it. The prying eyes, the questions of cost...forget it, lol, that's my business! If I tell a co-worker that I make doll clothing in my spare time I just show them my website...not bring the doll to work.

In some ways, its as if I feel very protective over them too...They are damn near sacred and extremely personal...I feel like "this is mine and I only share this part of myself/my passion with certain people in certain environments". This may seem oddball, but I also feel like my dolls have no interest in the average mundane realm in which I reside. They reside in their own universe, their own time and place beyond all this everyday b.s...and I want to keep it that way.

    19. I only really take my dolls out to meet-ups. As much as I love my dolls I hate the looks and some of the comments I get when I take them out by myself. But if I'm in a group of other dollie people I relax a bit :)

    20. I'm lucky in that I can bring my dolls to work and no-one really notices, except for my department, in which they're just as weird. I work with a doll person lol.

Having said that, these days I'm far less inclined to take them anywhere except meets and work. Perhaps a tiny if I know he'll be appreciated in the situation, but otherwise... no.

I especially don't like taking them to restaurants, even meet-type things. They're so awkward and I worry too much.
