1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is there anywhere you refuse to take your doll? why?

Aug 10, 2008

    1. I am a little leery of taking them anywhere I think people are going to want to touch them. I guess because you never know how people are goingto treat them. I dont want to be rude and say No you cant touch them but I am working on something polite to say to let them know I would rather they didnt handle them.

    2. I would not take it with me if we were going to some little girls birthday party. What if they wanted to play with her? Example: Me: I'll go to the toilet. I leave my doll here. Kids: woah! what a pretty doll! Let's play with it! Then I come back and I find my precious doll laying on the floor with a broken nose...

    3. Mine too, Or that I've made the clothing and am selling it. People seem to love being nosy about things like that.

I probably wouldn't take my doll to a greasy spoon, too much of a risk that my doll would get greasy marks on their resin and hair, but other restaurants would be fine. My problem is that I'd like to take them to more places, but I have friends and a boyfriend who would really like me *not* to take them anywhere!

    4. Well let me see...my dolls are currently already in a place I'd rather they not be...which is in my grandmother's house where I live (for now). The only time I take them out of their cases is when my door is closed or if no ones home. I would never leave them out because my family (excluding my mom and sister) are not only nosy but also a big collection of loud mouth walkee talkee's. In other words if one person sees or hears something they'll spread the message around to everyone else (strangers as well).
I've never told them about my doll hobby because I really don't trust them with my dolls and I don't want their hands on them. You never know if one of them might break or vanish if I left them out. Sad but true.

I'm already planning to move out soon,:dance. When I get my own place that's when I could really bring my dolls out of their carriers.

    5. I'll never take Hikaru to work, because one--it's kinda pointless because I can't carry him around, and I will NOT leave him alone in the breakroom with people moving in and out (I work at Wal Mart). I'm debating whether I should bring him along when I'm going to Six Flags in the fall (there's so many photoshoot possibilities there...), and I might if, for instance, my mom is going and doesn't want to ride anything. I could leave him with her.

Mmm...I'll NEVER take him somewhere with a lot of little kids, definitely. That's just asking for trouble. Other than that, Hikaru and I are avid travelers. :)

    6. i only take my dorries to meets n thats basically it. for all the reasons already stated above^^^

    7. Let's see... I'd never bring him to Amusement Parks/Fairs/Theme Parks/etc, sledding, cruises, beach/lakes/boating/rafting/canoeing/etc (mostly because...well, let's just face it. I'm terrified of any body of water larger than a hot tub!), child's parties, my brother's house, camping, hiking (unless it's for a photoshoot or meet specifically), certain restaurants (unless for a meet), crowded tourist areas, bars (although I DID bring him into one last week..the car was too hot!! <.<; ), Washington DC trams unless in a large group of doll-goers, baseball/football/soccer/hockey/basketball games or swim meets...the public pool, School (not that I am in school until I can afford college >< ) wether it be igh school OR college... Definitely not school functions, black-tie affairs, weddings (too much going on, too many opertunities for grabby hands and damage and theft)...

      And I'm sure there are other places XD Am I too over protective?? oO;

    8. Yeah! I always loved bringing my teddies to school! In fact, we had a day like that in grade 7. It was a sentimental item day, so everyone brought in teddy bears and dolls [Not BJDs, obviously] and things like that.

Hmm, when I get my first doll, I think I'd never take him around two people. My grandma, and my dad. My grandma's nice and all, but the questions would be insane. I doubt she'd really understand why I liked them. And, my dad because although he supports me buying dolls and might buy me one, he's a trucker... and he's dirty, so I wouldn't want him to touch my doll.
As for places, I wouldn't take him anywhere where he could be damaged, or stolen. I might take him to school some day, but I think I'd keep him away from most people and hide him. xD I wouldn't mind taking him anywhere else, since our town's pretty quiet, unless it was too sunny.

    9. Anywhere with unsupervised children, rough parts of town, and work.

Anywhere with unsupervised children - I am not their parents, I am not their babysitter. Granted, I wouldn't let anything harm a child, but I refuse to discipline a child that isn't mine just because their parents are too busy being self absorbed to even care that their offspring is being bothersome. I won't reprimand the child, I'll reprimand the parent. If you are going to bring children into this world, raise them right.

rough parts of town - Self explanatory. That's roughly $250 I'm cradling in my arms/carrying in my bag. I want to live and keep my doll, thankyouverymuch. I don't even take my iPod with me when I go into rough parts of town.

work - I work at Best Buy, filled with unsupervised children, and people with sticky fingers. At the store where I work, we once had a guy walk out with a huge flat screen TV without even paying for it. A pretty doll sitting at a register wouldn't stand a chance.

    10. If I had a reason to take one of my dolls somewhere, I would. I can't imagine taking them just to tote around, though - what's the point of that? I also wouldn't take them to work, and that is because of my work ethic: at work you are paid to work and my dolls have nothing to do with the duties I perform - if i had a job where they might be able to contribute something, I would, though.

When I travel down south next, I will probably take at least a couple of dolls as carry-on, because the doll group in my old hometown is interested in meeting up with the arctic expatriate, lol. I'd also like to show my Mom what she has been 'enabling' me with by sending up all the nice microfine quilting notions.

    11. Restaurants, especially the open-air types..
Too much oil in the air! (<--paranoid that it'll seep into resin)

Also, anywhere under the sun (literally) Sunlight kills.
I guess only malls and coffee houses are okay-ed.. :sweat

    12. lmao he's a trucker! and he's dirty! i love it!!!

i want a teddy bear day again and im not even attending a school right now (or after the summer is over)

    13. My workplace or school. I am lazy to answer all the 10000 questions I'd get, and I'm keeping a low profile of my doll hobby there. Not that I am ashamed of being a BJD hobbyist, just because I do not enjoy answering questions and being center of the attention.

    14. lol maybe just a tiny bit...

      no..maybe not

the dolls are to precious and to expensive to let anything happen to them

    15. how about something like this?? "yes but please be very careful she/he is really fragile and very expensive and try not to touch anything other than clothing because the oil from our skin can ruin her/him"

or " im sorry id rather you not touch him, i dont mean to be rude but he cost me $whatever and is irreplacable and quite fragile"

    16. I'd take Hansel almost anywhere if it weren't for the weird stares I get from people. For some reason I'm terrified of what other people think about my hobby. The possibility of getting bad comments outweighs the possible good responses I get most of the time.

Being in crowded places with Hansel doesn't bother me at all, I don't see how he could get damaged if I have him in my arms and avoid bumping into people. He's not made of porcelain after all. I had him at a crowded con all day and never even got close to dropping him once. My arm was cramping by the end of the day though. xD
As long as I'm with a friend I'll take him almost anywhere people won't see me again. But a definite no for me would be greasy fast food restaurants, school or somewhere extremely local and close knit where people might see me again some other time and remember me as the creepy weirdo with the doll. That basically means I'm afriad to take him almost anywhere I won't just be passing by people while walking; really really don't want to sit around and give someone the chance to insult me. @____@

    17. Uhm...bathrooms...hahaha. Probably most sporting events, dances...I might bring him to a movie theater...some of my friend's houses...just because in the past they've been a little less than polite with SeNii.
Of course I always keep SeNii close to me wherever I go...but some places...I'd just never dream of taking him ><

    18. it appears there are many feared places for BJD owners

but children seem to be the biggest fear! lol

see un supervised children and run away screaming

    19. i don't take my dolls many places. for fear of damage, just like alot of people here. i've only taken a doll to work afew times because i've had to head to a sleep over afterwards. and they've stayed it a carry bag of some kind and out of the way. i work in a print shop, so its alot of running around.

i try not to take them on public transit. you never know if the bus is gonna be really busy or not, and yer trying to hold your doll as close to you as possible, but if someone is squishing up against you, its pretty fearful. even in a carry case, people bump things all the time. its frustrating.

otherwise, they pretty much just stay at home with me.

    20. -Anywhere where little kids and their grabby hands could get to them. The finger grease... messing up wigs and clothes... breaking and dropping... -shudder- And little kids are breeding grounds for germs anyway, and I don't want viruses all over my dolls. o_o

-Places where smoking is permitted. Aside from cigarette smoke smelling awful, it probably would stain the resin (just like it stains everything else). Thankfully where I live it's illegal to smoke in a lot of places.

-Somewhere in direct sunlight with no safe, shady place to put them. That's self explanatory, because yellowing isn't cool. D:

      -The beach. Seriously.
