Is Your Doll Better Dressed Than You?

Feb 19, 2017

    1. That doesn't follow. I'm a librarian too and I had my hair dyed in shades of sea-greens, teals, and blues last year. One of my fellow librarians has her hair purple and teal at the moment andanother has hers bright turquoise.

I'm with you on a lot of the other stuff thorugh - when I was underweight I could get away wit outfits that my dolls can wear now (in those days I had an adorable sailor-suit I would wear to work, and a number of lycra bodysuits) but at my current size.... No. Same with the costs (although making a lot of their clothes helps there).

    2. That's awesome that you get to dye your hair and do stuff like that! Truthfully you're probably right; that combo DOESN'T follow. My boss is okay with me bringing Chloe to work (my little Yo-SD), so she might be okay with a hair dye job. I'm just too lazy to do it, LOL. Much easier to slap a goofy wig on Chloe and giggle at my boss's expression!

    3. Absolutely, my dolls are all better dressed than myself. With most of my dolls being girls wearing cute dresses of course they are better dressed than me, I would look like crap in a dress. .... being a guy. $60-$90 for a BJD outfit, $60-$90 on something for myself .... preposterous!! Thrift shop for me, I need the money for my dollies.

    4. Well, I will say that as inanimate people, my dolls can wear the same outfit all month, and I have to change... So they only need one nice outfit where I need more.

Also, as a multi-genre artisan I'm always wearing clothes I can get messy in, whether it's pouring clay slip, painting sets, working with dye, or being covered in sawdust. That being said, I enjoy going to renaissance festivals and anime conventions, as well as steampunk balls, so on comparable outfits I'd say we come out about even! The only difference is body type :) My perfect sample-size-figure dolls can wear trends that work on a thinner frame, where as I am almost a plus size, and so gravitate towards different trends. And because I sew for both my dolls and myself, it's all the same quality, my stuff just costs more in materials....

    5. Yes, yes they sure are! I really need to do something about that but its much more fun to buy clothing for them than it is for me.

    6. nope, because A) I dress up in lolita or similar styles when possible (yes, another expensive hobby to manage ToT...), and B)... I can't usually stomach spending as much on a doll outfit as I would on a human outfit T_T So my dolls are a bit lacking in their wardrobes. The most I've spent on a piece of doll clothing is like $20... I think someday I'd like to have one or two dolls that I actually splurge on and buy them pretty, expensive stuff. but we'll see lolll

    7. My dolls only have one outfit each and they are definitely better dressed than I am. But I wear scrubs all day at work and sweatpants at home. Getting dressed up is way too much work.

    8. I'm a leggins and tshirt girl, and so my doll will be too. Although I wanna get her some Lolita dresses as well. They don't suit me they make me look silly.

    9. The correct answer is they shouldn't, but since I only own male dolls, so there's no competition here lol...If I ever own female dolls tho, I can bet they will make me pale in comparison lol...Anyway I do dress my dolls in nice outfits according to my taste, and I really look for quality in choosing clothes for them. I pay attention to details in the clothes like buttons, the seam, the cutting and the fabric used, and of course the overall look. It must look very well made since they don't come cheap.

    10. For sure, they have a better clothing budget than I do!

    11. I have been in the Society for Creative Anachronism for over 20 years now, so I do in fact own silk , velvet and brocade Renaissance gowns, lots of early Medieval costume, and more recently I have been making Regency......but the dolls have stuff that puts mine to shame. Oh, and they are ideally beautiful, so.....yeah, they look a lot better than I do

    12. I spend about the same on clothes for myself as I would for a doll. My shirts usually cost around $20-25 and jeans are about the same, but my max for an outfit for a doll is $50.

    13. Seeing as how I had my dolls outfit custom made, I would have to say yes. I don't see myself doing that again for any other doll I get, but just looking through websites I know I'll spend more money on doll clothing then I ever will on my own lol

    14. When I first got my dolls I was into gothic&pink fashion, which was popular among some people in my country back then. So I did dress like my dolls sometimes. But these days I don't really care a lot about what I wear. I would usually wear casual comfortable clothes, while I buy the most pretty looking dresses with many details for my doll. I wouldn't really want to dress like that myself.

    15. I don't think I dress poorly or sloppy. 95% I'm wearing jeans and tshirt, but my dolls no doubt dress better than me. They can wear the stuff that I'm not allowed out in in the modern world haha.

    16. My doll 100% dresses better than I do  His clothes are a little more expensive and fashionable, I dress with comfort in mind & my own style but with my doll, he dresses with style (with a slight twist to make it his!) His body shape is better than mine too so he can get away with the clothes I can't

    17. Oh heck yeah. These ladies cost a pretty penny they better look good!

    18. Oh, definitely! I'd say we dress up to about the same level, but she looks waaay cuter.

    19. My dolls dress way better than I do at times. Most of the time I like wearing very comfy clothing, but,I will very rarely dress up.

    20. yes hahaha but i think we have two completely different styles
