1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is your doll habit a dirty little secret?

May 2, 2012

    1. I also look really young. People think I'm still in high school but I'm actually twenty. It's really nice when people don't question why I'm an adult that likes dolls.

    2. '

Seriously!!! Everyone who knows me knows what my interests are anyway, so I don't even care anymore hahaha.

Ohhhh I can't remember is a good one, too!!! Sorry, just entirely slipped my mind, whoops.

    3. Nah, I'm pretty open about it, though I'm pretty sheepish the first time I explain it to new people. Both my partner and my parents are really supportive though, and I talk to them about the hobby a lot.

    4. to me it's not having dolls that the problem. it's how many. Everyone i know is cool with me having one or two but if I get three let alone my 8 it's a "hoarding problem"

    5. I'm not at all ebmbarassed to tell anyone about my dolls if they ask about them...I'm just not one to hide certain things, I usually keep a pic of my Ariana as my iPad wallpaper/lock screen and I'm sure that people around me can see it,if someone were to ask what she was I'd have no problem telling them.

    6. I am loud and proud about my dolls! Luckily all my friends and family are supportive and even if they weren't I'd still never hide them.

    7. Wel, all my friends know that I collect dolls since I just couldn't shut up about it when I ordered my first doll and they don't seem to have a problem with it. I don't really keep it a secret and I will gladly tell anybody that asks that this is my hobby but I don't think I would like it to walk around somewhere with my doll without other people around me. I don't know why, maybe I just care too much about other people their opinions. The worst part about that is, I care about the opinions of people that I don't even know and will probably never see again. I feel weird xD

    8. It kind of is, because so far my family keeps telling me an evil spirit will enter my doll one day and kill me in my sleep >_>

    9. No, my dolls are not secret, or something I'm ashamed of, but I don't flaunt them either. I will tell people if it comes up in conversation and I have had dolls out for guests to see, so I defenitely don't hide the fact that I have them. But I am pretty open about being a geek and collecting all sorts of things, from toys to vintage homewares to art and jewellery, so no one that knows me would really be surprised that I have dolls.

    10. My dolls are out and about. I don't hide them per say, but my friends don't really know about them or what they cost and such. They just think they're creepy. I don't talk to them because they don't care but you guys do so that's why I am here!!:D

    11. All of my dolls live under my bed in nondescript dark bags. My parents have keys to my house and use them to come and go at their leisure, and would be aghast at the dolls' size, number, and cost... so the resin stays hidden. :/

    12. It kind of used to be but not any more.
I have budgeted a monthly allowance for my husband and I to fritter away as we please. So I try very hard to stay within my budget but sometimes I borrow from the next month and I do keep to the allowed $. That's why layaway is sooooooooo important to me. :) Saving up is too difficult.
It is really nice to know that when dolly stuff comes in the mail he doesn't pester me about it. He has his hobbies and I have mine.
Ahhhh peace of mind and dolls.:dance

    13. it's not a secret. my family, friends and work mates know I play with dolls

    14. Everyone knows about my crew. I feel like if I love it and it is a part of me and my life why hide it? I rather be happy, and show the world new things that they may never know existed. Be proud of the things you love, do, and are. My friends who are not into the hobby love my boys and always ask me about them. I don't care about the looks people give me when I'm out with them, because even without them I still get looks from people, being covered in tattoos and having bright red hair and all. I have no shame in my game.

    15. There are certain people I keep it from, like my boss and zome family. I tend to hide new ones from my dad because I just don't want the lecture you know? And the ones he dies know about were way more expensive than he thinks they were.

    16. If it would be that easy. My best friend also even starts an argument, just because she wants to know the prices. -.- She even thinks 30 euros spent on an offtopic doll is too expensive. And the she even asks: "What are you doing with a 200 dollar doll?"
I mean I can't stand these questions. I asked back: "What would YOU do with art?" but well... People don't get it...

    17. My doll collecting isn't a secret. When I was younger I used to share it with my friends, do projects on it etc.
As an adult I have no reason to take them out of the house generally. If there was a meetup in my area I'd probably go.
I plan to take at least one doll to an anime convention where I'm going to be selling my handmade products. I plan to make her kind of like a mascot :)

I agree with most people here, if you enjoy something it doesn't matter what anyone else says. As long as you're not shoving it in someones face (and that applies to anything, no just dolls) I see no problem in sharing dolls <3

    18. My dolls are only a secret to people I don't really know. Only my family, my sister's boyfriend, and my best friend know that I'm planning to collect dolls. Other than that, I think my peers might not understand, so, I just don't tell them.

    19. Not really, none of my hobbies are dirty secrets. The only think I'd keep secret is the price of the hobby. Not because I'm ashamed, but because I don't want certain people to harass me for lending money I know I'll never see again.

I have a lot of expensive hobbies. I mean, If ANY hobby might make me blush a little, it's going to be throwing down about 2-3 grand for a swimmable silicone mermaid tail.

    20. Oh, I just hate it when people think they have a right to argue over what I spend my money on. Honestly, the only people who have somewhat of a right are parents and your partner. But even then I still feel that I should be able to spend what I see fit with the money I worked for...

She probably just doesn't think it's worth it, but this is sometimes hard to grasp for people who are not in the hobby since they don't know so much about doll costs. This isn't the case with everyone since even my mom who thought I was spending too much on a doll understood why he was $200 after seeing him in person. But since she's my mom she still thought it was a lot of money for me to spend. XD
