Is your doll part of an elaborate "world"?

May 30, 2009

    1. Is your doll part of an elaborate "world" or set-up?
They are indeed. [They all still need work to become what I need them to be but money and time is a problem ^^;]

Perhaps including other peoples dolls as well?
Not right now, but I would not be opposed to the idea if it came up in the future.

    2. I used to think of the dolls as very expensive decorations, but the longer I'm in the hobby the more I realize I want them to have their own world. To have stories written about them etc. This hobby has really sparked my creative juices that I didn't even know I have.

So, yes. It's a work in progress, but they're not part of a world I'm working on. I'd for them to interact with others, but due to the nature of the world it's unlikely I will find someone compatible enough to play with me.

    3. Tha Queen of chaos, I love your concept!

    4. I don't have elaborate worlds like a lot of you and I wish I did but, most of my bjds are tinies and end up having small cutesie photoshoots of small goings-on for them at the moment. They are 5 yo's to me so it's a bit hard. They do have a bit of a storyline though. The 2 PKFs are related and 1 is a new neighbor. I have a Puki Puki who exists on her own in a 1/12 scale house and she's fun for quick photoshoots of everyday scenes. No real backstory for her though.

I did have a storyline built up that seemed fun but when I found the perfect doll to fit one character, the other character in the storyline (that I already had) didn't quite fit anymore so I ended up selling her. So now I have only one of the characters of the story:(

I have a bit of a hard time being "creative" with my dollies. I like to see them in a real world/modern settings but done in their scale. I do have a YOSD now and am currently trying out the idea of having her live in both my world and hers (I plan on getting at least 1 more YOSD for the storyline). I hope since they are are a bit bigger, and so far haven't introduced them to my tiny BJDs, that my YOSD might have her own existence in a completely different storyline with a different genre of expression. I hope the little 10 yo in me can conjur up the imaginative stories I used to make up.... Good luck to all of you and your storylines! I love to read them when I find a link to them!

PS...My dolls come first and tell me their story, for the most part. My most recent PKF, though, already had a backstory but her personality will only show up with time:) as they usually do:)

    5. Yes all my dolls are part of a an elaborate world taken from differing races and based on some of my favorite fantasy novels. My characters are involved with other peoples characters to some degree through RP but for the most part they are based on my own stories and world. I have lots of races including humans, elves, shape-shifters, vampires born and created. Though having learned the hard way I think its better to keep your dolls and characters more separate from other people. That way u don't get hurt if people decide they don't want to anymore.

    6. Absolutely and ever expanding.

    7. Mine are in the "expensive decoration" category, I'm afraid.

Well, it's not quite that bad. I have some very vague impressions of what I think their "character" is like, but nothing solid, and I certainly don't have a fiction developed around them. Of course, with Beatrice, and probably with Saber when I get her, both are manufactured based on existing characters.

    8. After buying a few dolls and some of my friends getting them too it just seemed right for them all to be a part of something. We're still figuring somethings out but basically me and one of my friends are going to have separate stories for our dolls, but they will be able to cross stories to visit one another...somehow lol. It's going to be interesting seeing that my boys are all fantasy from like middle earth and her's are all, for the most part, are modern and live in the present...suggestions anyone? XD

    9. Sort of. My dolls' characters (except for two) fall into pretty much three different worlds, and some exist on vastly different time periods of the same world. The least elaborate is based heavily on the real world, so there really isn't a lot of work on my part. XD Mostly the connections between the characters keep growing more interconnected and twisted.

My fae belong in a world that I've created over the years of writing short stories and such. Worldbuilding used to be a hobby of mine and this is probably my favorite one that I created, and my longest lasting solo project.

My third group belong to a mish-mash reality/fantasy world that I've been RPing for years. It's pretty history-rich now and complex now, but my main character in that has her simple little niche.

I bought a doll with no intentions of giving him a character, or putting him into a world, but he ended up being connected to characters in world #3's future OTL

    10. Most of my dolls all live in today's modern world, no fantasy or sci-fi, just the everyday world. Except ONE of them is an alien, but to them it holds as little meaning as it would to one of us seeing someone of a different ethnicity. So what? Whatever. That's their attitude about it. It's not a sci-fi story or world, there just HAPPENS to be ONE alien in it.... if that makes sense?

    11. Weirdly enough, yes they are, which wasn't my intention at all when I started collecting.

I won't go into it, but there's humans and 'demons'. Anything not human is called demon though, a very broad blanket term. Specifically I have a couple humans, two half-elf twins, a half-dragon devil hunter, a Priestess of the Mother Demon Lilith (who's a sweetheart really), possibly a gargoyle, and a Charon all planned or already obtained.

I sorta wished my dolls had ties with other people's dolls, but I haven't really made good friends in the doll community. I have one friend who just started out though, I think she's still getting to know her girl (that and it's a SD, which is a little difficult to play with my MSDs and tinys). I'm always too afraid to try and start a conversation with people online, I feel invasive :c

    12. Yes, my dolls are all from a made up world, with a background and personality. My dolls belong in three different worlds, though some dolls exist in more than one.
I share two of the worlds with my best friend, who are also a doll owner. She is the only person I would want to share a world with as of now.

    13. Is your doll part of an elaborate "world" or set-up?
Mine are - I'm a writer so have lots of stories already. However, wanting to create versatility (read, not have to get individual dolls for ALL my characters...) I wrote a backstory for a limited group of dolls, who get together to cosplay, & later maybe form a theatre group. They live in a small town in Georgia - that was fun to do. So all the fantasy is cosplay, etc.
Perhaps including other peoples dolls as well?
At this point, not including other people's dolls because only one of my friends here in town even has one, & it's a fantasy doll so that would be difficult.

    14. Yeppers =v= All of them, they are from a shared story between me and soenatte, but there's a side story that 2-3 characters of mine (and one of soenatte's) are associated with some of another friend of mine's characters.
I'd like to keep all of my dolls in that story, no matter how many 'side stories' and 'side characters' I have to make, just so that I can limit myself a little and so that all my dollies are 'connected' in a way >u<

    15. My dolls are from two separate elaborate worlds. Laila Asha, Oracle, Eric, Lola, Damon, Sasha and Mischa are from one world. It is a modern world where vampires, werewolves and other supernatural creatures live among humans. Their existence is not known to everyone, but there are a few that aid them and/or hunt them.

Tlaloc, Yaotl, Oz, Atl and soon to be purchased Itzpapalotl belong to another world that also includes characters and dolls owned by a friend. This world is very elaborate. I have written and published one short story involving this world and characters. I am also writing another story that will hopefully be published as well and am also working on THREE collaborations with my friend whose characters have come to inhabit this world I have created at least on a temporary basis.

    16. Yes, mine are part of an ellaborate world I share with my sister and I find it very interesting and creative!

    17. The answer will be yes & no for me. =) The background world isn't something like middle-earth or something like that. It takes place in current world, but perhaps their personality, relationship & occupation are the one that pretty elaborate.

    18. One of my RL friends and myself have established a whole alternate universe for our dolls, complete with its tweaks and, in turn, own parallel worlds (Ellysia -the world of the Immortals, Celestia -the angelic world or Heaven if you will and Abyss -the demonic world/Hell). While generally using demons and angels already existing in lore we've also created races such as the immortal Fei and their darker cousins called Nefarians. Furthermore we have introduced three, so far, main storylines with characters structured around a core of relatively 'innocent bystanders' that initiated the meetings for the rest of the characters which are in turn more complexly interconnected.

The main plot generally concerns an Organization founded to deal with the Human world's supernatural -mainly demon-related- problems; but that's hardly the end of it.

All the dolls we have and/or plan to get are members of the story and we have decided that if we cannot justify them as characters in it we shouldn't even consider buying them (because all the times we REALLY wanted a doll we easily found them a place in the storyline just fine).

    19. Yes, because they're character dolls, from X-men. :D So, any character dolls would automatically be apart of a bigger world.

    20. Yes, the dolls are part of a imaginary world. All of them are different characters, and so on. My favorite MSD and my favorite tiny are narrators and narrate the blog that tells the story of the dolls' world...and yes, cute gasp! they interact with the vinyls in my collection as well.
