1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is your doll part of an elaborate "world"?

May 30, 2009

    1. Honestly? No. It seems like the majority do have their dolls represent their "characters" but I don't. Except 1. But she hasn't been "made" into a doll yet. I'm still in the planning stages. But she is one of the ONLY "humans" in her particular world. The rest of the inhabitants are non-human creatures. So most likely, she might be the only character that ever gets made into a doll, and I'm doing it because she's incredibly important to me. And I've already found physical forms for the other inhabitants, and they can't do anything until she exists.

All of my other dolls have names of course, though. They have personalities, too. Quite a few have little backstories, but nothing like the character I mentioned in the paragraph up there. My "character" is the only one that exists in an (incredibly) elaborate world.

    2. Yep! All of my planned and in-coming dolls are from my novel-in-progress, The Angel in the Ashtray. :D My friend Ven's doll Saul is a character, too.

    3. I actually adopted a bit of Ringdoll Carlos's story for my own. When I bought him, I didn't have a character or anything in mind. But for the two that I want to buy for him, they're made specifically to fit into a loose interpretation of Carlos's story. I imagine it'd be an earlier period of piracy and whatnot, but I haven't gotten that far. I am amazed at all of the thought everyone else seems to have put into theirs! :D

    4. All my dolls were created to live in the same universe as we do. The main focus was creating personalities that could be worked on to get the most possibly credible, so our world was just the environment where I chose to develop them. They live under the same rules we do and they were meant to react to situations in accord to their moral views and way of being. All of them are directly or indirectly related and it's a huge universe with lots of different people. I like things this way cause they look like people I could really meet someday.

However, sometimes our world can be a bit boring, so I have Alternative Universes where I develop them as gods, ancient romans, pirates and so on. It's nice because I already understand their personality enough to know how they would behave under these exotic circunstances. I don't really plan getting dolls or outfits to represent these AUs (at least in the near future) though.

    5. So basically I'm just wondering to as how you came up with your back story for your doll. Did it come to you in a dream or a friend perhaps? Maybe you based your character on yourself or someone you want to be? And what is your Doll's story?

    6. This thread should probably be in the BJD Games section...Anyways, there really isn't too much details in my doll's backstory, they just kind of developed from (the less complex side of) my imagination. Huxley (my ResinSoul Long, soon to be Mirodoll hybrid) is an elf in an urban fantasy setting, his main goal in life is to make enough money to live and eventually buy back his childhood home. Charlie (my Magical Angel Amy boy) is a human preteen who seeks to hunt demons for murdering his parents a few years back, and he makes deals with animal like tricksters in order to gain powers he doesn't fully comprehend.

    7. My dolls are part of my own world and my family, I do not write stories for them and do not like it.

    8. Yes, my dolls are part of an elaborate world, this one.

    9. Yes they are O.o All my dolls are based on or will be based on this story I've been working on ever since I got my first sd doll. I want all my characters so badly I wouldn't even consider buying a doll outside of that world for a very long time

    10. I had a story planned out for my dolls, long long ago. It was gonna be some Steampunk setting with my first three, but after i got my fourth girl, she didnt really fit in and... long story short, no one fits into that storyline now and everyone just farts around in the real world, oops.

    11. Yes. Most my stories are my original ideas. I would go further into this but I'm very secretive with my oc's.

    12. Yep, though they didn't start out that way. I was a one-doll person...which didn't last long. Now I have a full crew that just developed their own stories. Some stories intertwine, while others have yet to meet. A mix of the human world and the fantastic. I can't wait to see how these stories are told ;)

    13. All my dolls are characters in stories I have yet to write. I do have them in my head and I join RPG's with my characters in mind. Not all of them are part of the same world but some of them do cross paths. I hope to one day own all my main characters as dolls :3

    14. well, yes and no. they are characters from a fantasy book trilogy with a pretty complicated backstory so technically they *are* part of an elaborate world, but since I only ever wanted only two of these characters (my favourites *.*) and never plan on owning more that my two dolls, I guess in fact they *aren't*. I hope this makes sense, somehow...

I guess I'm a different kind of BJD person as I don't have an original story for them, I'm more the fanfic type XD

    15. I never thought to make my dolls characters until I saw how popular it is among the hobby. To me I see my dolls as work in progress art projects for sewing or prop making. Hm, I guess although I consider myself imaginative I guess I'm not good at writing stories. ^^

    16. I recently purchased my first doll...well actually just a head *_* ...it sounds silly but when I saw her, I could picture her whole "life" - She hasn't even arrived yet, has no eyes, wig, or body and I know EXACTLY what her backstory is. I can't imagine being as excited without feeling that connection. NOW I MUST NAME HER!!

    17. What an awesome premise for a "world" and it makes perfect sense also because old-timey things used to be more well made and that kind of man-power in modern day is very expensive! Really cool!

    18. A couple different worlds actually, haha. Some of my doll characters belong to one story while others belong to 1 or more other stories, each with its own world. If i could figure out how to combine the stories, I'd like it to become one world as I admit, that would be easier :XD:

    19. It's really starting to seem that way. I know its a super industrial world thats been around for a long time, and it progressed much like ours, but it's wayyyy wayyy into our future...but at the same time I'm not so sure that it is "our" world. I think of a place that has an air of old magic but also a place that looks a lot like the city in the movie Metropolis...

    20. My machina dolls are in their own little universe..literally galaxy hopping robot sisters. My other dolls don't really have their own world. Maybe that's why I'm finding that I'm losing interest in them - there's just no inspiration for world-building.
