Is your doll part of an elaborate "world"?

May 30, 2009

    1. Yup, I'm actually collaborating with a writer for my story, and my resin gang are doll versions of my most fave characters. I do have one doll that actually isn't a character from that story, because I wanted one that was out of place with the others. :)

    2. I adopted dolls to represent my OCs from my personal project/fanzine ^w^
So when buying them, I look for a head mold who would represent best the character, not which one I find prettiest :3

I do have some 'Image Character' dolls, like my Kanu Unchou Dollfie Dream, which I will not turn into my OC xD She stays from her own world, Ikki Tousen.

    3. I'm a character creator by semi profession, (which basically means someone who makes up stories and characters and gets paid for it, but being an art, not enough to live on.) So creating these worlds and elaborate character interactions is pretty ingrained. It's not just a career path, it's an absolute passion.

All my dolls are part of a rather large scale universe, taking in their various sizes and obviously different looks to consideration and letting the story write its self with a little encouragement.

I sharehouse with TeaPartyRevolution, so her dolls are in the story as well, with occasional cameos from our closer dolly friends, Shelbelly and Stromybabe88. (and one of Emma-ma's who seems to have become an object of desire for one of mine and one of TeaParty's)

That's the short answer... Without submitting to the temptation to elaborate (as I see so many other people have resisted for the same two-page summary reason XD....)

    4. Mine are based on a story and an elaborate world too but nothing too specific as 1. I'm still working on the details (see siggy~ lol) and 2. I didn't want it too be too specific so as to make allowance for future dolls. So instead of buying dolls to fit my story, I keep an open eye and an open heart (I wish the same could be said for my wallet) and if I come across a doll I really love, I can fit him somehow into the story and world. So there is a concept and a background story, but the direction it takes, particularly character-wise, depends on the dolls I will bring home. However this world is and will be private. Including other people or friend's dolls seem like a really refreshing idea, but personally if I am involved, I am not really sure how it will turn out since there is a lot of things everyone will need to agree on.

    5. My dolls are part of a world I created for a game I have in mind.
Though except their name and their personality they have nothing else to do with it and I am the only one who creates for it ^^

    6. I have four storylines going at the moment, but they're all sort of in a fifth, AU story, as they're all together in the same place when they would normally never meet at all.

The elaborate worlds exist in the stories themselves more than in the dolls, if that makes any sense. It's fun having them wander around in a weird giant's land, wondering what the heck is going on : sweat.

    7. My first doll got a long, complex story...and all new dolls do/are going to fit into that story, with most of them having already been picked out...
Except for my BBB Feng. He's got nothing- no story at all, though he will eventually have a girlfriend.

    8. My first doll has a small back story that fits in with two of my previous roommates' dolls and my current roommate's dolls. My other dolls are from a story I started writing thirteen years ago that keeps developing in my mind and very little on actual paper.

I really wish I could just buy dolls and make up a story for them where I can just add more and more dolls whenever I find an interesting one, but I can't seem to get past the idea of getting dolls to fit my already created characters/storyline.

    9. Oh lordy, yes.

In fact, the world and stories came first, and I think I got into the dolls because of that.

    10. Some of them have backstories that are connected to each other's... some of them have their own stories and their own paths... and some of them are just here. :) Nobody is thus required to "fit in" to anything.

I like to think of this place as a kind of safe-house, or interdimensional flight-lounge, where this many types of people/creatures have come to mingle and live and hang out (and have cocktails and fabulous shoes).

    11. All my dolls are part of seperate story lines that meet up at one point or another. they may not interact directly in their stories, but they are connected in some ways. I think it adds to the doll experience ^^

    12. Some of my dolls have back stories, some don't. Currently I have 3 different worlds going on and they don't interconnect. When new characters are developed in my head or I am inspired by a new doll release to add a character, that is when I try to replace/sell one of the dolls to help fund the new acquisition. It does'nt always work out, but it helps keep me with 8-10 dolls or less most of the time. I really don't have the space or want the excess klutter that more dolls and their stuff brings. Plus, I can't afford it!

    13. I have many worlds and my SD is definitely a part of them. She started off as a roleplaying character and grew into my main character, the one I am known for. It was natural to me to put her into doll form when the hobby came.

The worlds I create are mostly medieval low fantasy, though I do trend into high fantasy. My favorites are my Greek and Roman historical fiction worlds though. I have many and I share them with Rosslyn. As dolls, Rosslyn's world and Court are the places I put Khorae in.

    14. Hahaha, YES. I am hoping and praying to be a writer, and I have developed a few storylines set in the same world. The dolls share a same general environment, and lots of them share a story or at least meet at some point. It makes it more interesting and limits spending in some ways... I only buy things that are perfect for the characters.

The bad thing is that I want to dress them in super specific ways, and more often than not, nothing in the market matches what is in my head! D:

    15. Yes mine does but because my friends are pretty poor and can't afford dolls. It's really just a world of my own sadly. And this idea does intrigue me.

    16. my imagination is completely out of control so yes! XD;; actually my Duncan hails from the Southern Continent home of the wind nations - North, South, East, and West - and the Southern Islands.

    17. When I first got my DZ Yue I created a character for him, in turn creating a whole world of locations, characters, events.
I absolutely love that I ended up getting a vast story simply from trying to make a character for a doll.

On the other hand, with incredibly developed characters comes incredibly limited locations and dress.

    18. ARGH so many times this. It wouldn't bug me if I could sew--but materials and tools issues aside, I don't even know where to start~ All my dolls that are from my headworld wear weird mixes of fashion types such that few premade outfits look at all accurate. >w<;;;

    19. Yes, and no. One of the dolls I am getting has elvish ears, so I had started a little bit of backstory for her, and want to put her in a different world. I probably will flesh it all out more once I get closer to getting her.

Right now the one I am paying for recently got a name, and I'm starting to put bits and pieces of her personality together. I kinda want to make her mythical too, and have this idea of buying 2 sets of eyes for her, one in the original color I want her to have, and another in the same color but with solid eyes (either all glitter or something where the iris kinda blends into the color) for poses of when she uses her powers that I am working on developing.

    20. Luken's from the Nick Starkey "universe", Celaran's from the Luskeron "universe" and Morgan's a pirate from a magic ship in a bottle (the world inside the bottle being the one as we know it from the PotC-movies). As for the first two, I'm not sure how elaborate those "universes" are, yet, since both are works in progress (note, I'm not writing the stories for the dolls, the dolls are rather something like "3D pictures" of my favourite characters). As for the third - well, I guess most of you here know that one. ;)
