Is your doll part of an elaborate "world"?

May 30, 2009

    1. Honestly speaking, I wouldn't mind if my dolls didn't have personalities or an elaborate world of their own, but I would get incredibly bored of pretty dolls that are "just pretty", so I end up creating personalities, establishing relationships, and the elaborate world sort of just forms on its own :'D

    2. Yes, the story of my dolls involves imaginary things and places, one thing is that
      they come from another "world" which became chaotic, and they need to escape and ended up here in our house
      that's how the story starts...

    3. Yes she is. The lone survivor of a ravaged civilization :).

    4. Yes, indeed our dolls are part of a distant elaborate world, one that intersects with the here and now. That is part of the allure of the whole process.

    5. In my case, my dolls are original characters based on the military fandom of 'Keroro Gunsou'.

      I have a long elaborate story for all of them, together with my friend's dolls. That story began to be created about almost 3 years ago and now we are just making it 'real'.

      So, all my dolls are aliens, and no one is human or have nothing to do with the Earth. It means that, in our case, we had to create not only the world around the characters, but also their personalities and special characteristics in their different alien races. Though they seem human beings, they are in fact frogs, axolotlians, droids, mice... and it means they should be slightly different from we Earthing people.

      It's nice to have dolls that are just dolls, they're pretty and cute, but personaly it'd be boring to me, so I create a world around them.

    6. Yes, my dolls are part of an intricate world and are all my OC's. :) I hope to eventually do photostories with them :D

    7. Yup :)
      One big thing that drew me to the hobby was the appeal of having my OCs being completely tangible and actually there.
      I need to get some more of my "main characters" in doll form but I'm hoping to be able to do photostories someday...
      In a way they help develop the characters more since I have to narrate the story in a completely different way than if I were writing. >w<;

    8. Well it didn't start out that way, but now Emily has a long story that everyday is getting more and more complex. Soon I'll have fifteen dolls and each on will be connected somehow.

    9. Yep. Joren (my first doll) is the child protagonist of a novel that's currently beating the crap out of me.... :| All my other dolls are characters in the novel as well. The last doll I bought was her protector and mentor, Silfe.

    10. The reason I got into dolls was to have physical versions of the characters in my head...^_^;;

      What started as a gag roleplay project with my friend and I has turned into its own huge fantasy universe with its own world history, different eras of ruling hierarchy and evolving technologies. @_@ We even have a map of he main continent. All of my current and future dolls are from there.

      The current ones are from the world's 'modern' time, but the next few are from the ancient past. ^_^; The dolls themselves tend to act like their more modern selves from our random alternate universe RPs, though.

    11. Oh yeah :/ I originally got my first doll to be one of my already established characters but she didn't like that and so I came up with a world just for her. Now both my dolls live in that world although my forthcoming MNF will have one foot in that world and one foot in our own. I'm in the process of writing the first novel of what will be a trilogy about them :)

    12. Well, I give them a bit of a personality, but the only world they're a part of is the top shelf of my bookcase. Heh. I know I'm in the minority in that I don't have elaborate story lines and a realm for them to dwell, but I guess I just don't go there. I love seeing how others flesh their dolls out, so to speak, with a world and stories, though.

    13. Yes. Some represent specific characters I have in mind and created prior to finding dolls for them, others have been inspired by the dolls. (Just as some had been inspired by actors or novels or other things before that, really.)

      I realized a long time ago that I am a terrible writer, and that no matter how good the stories I could create could potentially be, the poor writing would end up killing them anyway. :lol: I am also more of a world builder than a writer and I always have been. (Friends of mine and I call this Tolkien Disease.) In a way, it doesn't surprise me that my collection has grown to be so large due to this specific tendency; I'm not so much 'casting a stage play' as I am choosing all the main players, extras, walk-ons, and bit players that might be seen in a short television series to populate a 'world'. ;)

    14. Hehe, I like the way you put that.

      I'm slowly developing a new world for my current dolls who's character's have been inspired by the dolls, as I decided not to give my earlier characters doll forms, as I'd end up never buying a doll from dissatisfaction from the doll not looking "perfect" enough for me.

    15. Yup. My 'main doll'/his character originated from a roleplay I started with a friend years ago and while my current crew is now part of a different world, the connection is still there.
      I'd like to write it all down at one point but really .. that's a lot of work with over 100 characters. That's why I prefer to put my all time favorites into resin shells for now and maybe eventually do photostories to explain a little more about 'The Realm'.

    16. It didn't start out as a world, but it's gradually grown organically as new dolls arrived, "introduced themselves" in terms of personality, character and background stories, and developed as it's overlapped with other worlds in RP sessions. It's based on a slightly futuristic world with fantasy elements in which elves reign in a hidden secret kingdom deep in the heart of Wales called Caer Fyrddin, with a small enclave established in London where all my characters are currently based. Timewise, it is set about 40 years from now, when magick has returned to the world. Vampires walk about in the daylight which does not actually harm them - it simply slows them down and makes them incredibly sleepy and narcoleptic. Vampirism is caused by an incurable virus that can only be transmitted in the vampire's blood when it ingested by the vampire-to-be.

      At some point I probably ought to get around to writing this stuff up....

    17. Yep! Pretty much all my dolls are part of an elaborate world either of my own or a friends making. Or some of them both of ours. My main dolls, one of whom is home, the other who is being saved for are part of an entire world involving MANY different characters who I hope to one day make into dolls, they have histories, an entire world that's both similar to this one and yet different as well.

      One of my other dolls is part of another world, entirely created by both me and my friend who owns his partner and one of their sons. That entire thing is something we both made up together, and the world is growing pretty much by the minute or so it seems. lol

      The third one is part of yet another different world again. This one however was NOT made up by me or any of my friends. His world and that of his future partner was created and designed by three wonderful girls a few years back. They created a website/online sorta pet game but with humanoid creatures called Ai and my boy and future boy were the first character I ever rp'd from that and the character owned by my first EVER rp partner.

      The only dolls I will own that AREN'T part of some elaborate world or another are my future doll based on my daughter and my two dog dolls that are her pets. All of these worlds are actually completely seperate from each other in reality and I'm still working on how to incorporate them so that I can do photoshoots with the dolls I have from different worlds until I have the other characters from the other worlds to star in them. So this poses am interesting problem for me... Hmm...

    18. My two girls are also based on original characters of mine. They have a complex relationship and they live secret lives because they are werewolves.

    19. That's a really interesting idea. That one would be rich enough to be wasteful and NOT use modern equipment, and instead hire people to do it. That's cool.

    20. Oooohhhh yes T_T my problem is dolls I haven't even bought yet enter the world and therefore get sucked in. My dolls live in an alternate universe where heaven and hell no longer fight but have a treaty going where neither would interfere with the other (although there are still extremists who like to cause havoc) My Raiden who's yet to arrive is the son of the devil, bored with his life under the earth, where his father no longer plots to take over heaven, instead signs paperwork and rules over the dead. He convinces his father to let him live upon the earth for 100 years, after that he has to buckle down to be his successor (although demons are immortal, if they choose to die they can, and higher up demons can kill lower demons) there are rules on earth though, that a demon or angel cannot marry/commit or have children with humans, because the offspring will be born with demonic/angelic powers but with a mortal soul, the powers basically drive the person insane (a girl i will buy in the future is going to be a forbidden half, she's slowly going mad and trying to fight it), Raiden has a half younger brother (D: havent decided on his name yet, tossing up between Haru and Kaede) who was unfortunately born from the devil and an earth spirit, something that never happens as they cannot concieve because of their different 'races' but he was born and banished to earth because he didnt resemble a demon, although has demonic powers that hell doesnt know about ;) he resents Raiden because he has it easy whereas Kaede has had to fight his whole life for what he has. (Oh, Kaedes a Soom Chalco xD) ugh there's so much more but thats the small jist of it >.>..... to anyone who bothered to read that all, bravo XD
