Junior Delf Discussion

Jul 1, 2009

1. Junior delf heads will work on senior delf bodies and vice versa. Pretty sure it won't work on delf, because of the funky neckpart and differing skin tones though.

2. Delf absolutely will not match; their heads are a completely different resin color than the JDF bodies.

An SDF head would work on the body color-wise, but I'm not sure about fit. The JDF neck is a lot thinner so there would probably be gapping and SDF heads are bigger all around so it might look a little bobble headed. It would depend on the head.

I definitely feel you on this one, though. Before they released Dreaming Terra I was like "BUT I WANT A SHORT GUY AND NONE OF THOSE WORK!" XD

3. As the others have mentioned the delf will not match resin wise, it isn't even close. Delf's are also a bit different as far as proportions go so it might look a little odd. As far as senior delf goes it would depend on the head. In some cases you could make it work because technically JDF and SDF heads are the same size, but some SDF heads are just a bit larger than others. Before I switched to the JDF event head 1 for one of my characters I had a Wintery 08 which is a SDF head and it fit nicely on the JDF body, there was no more of a gaping problem than there is with any of the JDF heads on that body. But my Wintery 09 could never go on the JDF body, it is too large. Other companies that resin match and might work would be Crobi doll, they make a line of smaller SD heads and Custom House.

4. Ahahaha, so, Mum just saw the bill for my JDF... erghhhhhh. She didn't sound happy. ^^; At least I'm paying for him in his entirety, so she can't complain about that.

Augh, now I'm feeling guilty for paying $500 for him. >.< It will be so worth it in the end, though!

5. You know I'm grown and married and I still feel a bit guilty when I think about how much money I spend on these dolls. Hubby even collects them too so he knows how much they cost and never makes me feel a bit bad about it but I think about all the other things I could do with that money and I can't help it. You will feel better when you have your new fella home.

6. After over a year of going back and forth between Lepus and Rigel, I decided, and I am splurging by buying a Rigel from the MP. He better suits the type of personality I have in mind, and looks like he'd be a more reliable lab assistant for Mycroft.

The former owner hadn't done much with him besides pay for a simple but from what I can tell, rather nice and neutral faceup, so even though he's old, (one of the first early ones from 2009?), he's almost like new.

Been loving JDs for a while now.
Still have strange compulsion to buy Lepus one day. I'll have to think of a role for him first, though.
Horrible, irrational fear that they might discontinue him for some reason before I can eventually save up for him.

7. Von Alk, yay! Can't wait to see your Rigel once he's home. :)

Iris0110, thanks for the advice. ^^ I knew I'd feel that pang of "wow I just spent a huge amount of money", so I planned accordingly and took on a ton of babysitting work to get my bank account back up. I guess it's because I'm a teenager with lots of future expenses, and the fact that I'm normally a cheapskate doesn't help much. xD On the plus side, I know I'm going to love him when he arrives. I keep staring at the pictures of Luts and squirming with excitement, haha!

8. Stars You're ordering Nihal, correct? I hope to see his box opening when he arrives ^^ He's a really cute sculpt! Looks a bit like a slightly older, more serious/neutral Lepus to me, for some reason XD
I'm usually really picky and strictly a sculpt-by-sculpt person, but prettymuch all the Junior Delfs and a lot of the Kid Delfs really won me over- I'm fond of a lot of them, I think.

9. Von Alk, Yes, Nihal.^^ Don't worry, I take LOTS of photos! :D

I really liked Rigel and Terra too, but I think the gentle maturity of sorts on Nihal's face really won me over. It was perfect for the character I have planned for him!

You're so right about the whole JDF line winning a person over- I tend to pick sculpt by sculpt too, but all of the JDFs are gorgeous. @.@ (Gah, why are pretty things so expensive? >.<)

10. Stars- I agree! They are expensive, but not unreasonable, I think : ) 500 is a lot, but it's still do-able. When dolls get to be more than that, especially around 600/700+ I start having issues justifying buying them for myself D: So far, anything I am looking at I am trying to keep in the below 600 price range. Fortunately, it seems like there's a lot of dolls that I like well enough in that range ^^ But yes, prettymuch all the Junior Delfs are lovely looking. It's a mystery!

11. Von Alk- Considering what they are, sure. :) For me, $500 was pushing it, but I pre-meditated the purchase for so long I knew it would be well spent. I think keeping dolls under that $600 range is a good call, definitely!

I'm also a fan of MSDs (so my boy is going to act more as a tall companion to my MSD girl as opposed to a shorter SD companion), so the price range for them is usually less than that of an SD too.

I think Luts is just a talented company, haha. I love a ton of their sculpts! @.@

12. Stars- Same here! They really are worth it, from what I can see. My first doll was a 72cm, around $500 as well, but Luts is supposed to be a much better company, *shrug* so I figured that it seemed right.

Yah, my JD is going to be the lab assistant for my large doll XD Funny, it's like opposite of yours, sort of XD Your KD is going to be the biggest one!
I do want an MSD sometime. Probably for my next doll. I want a little MSD girl to be the "creation" of my first doll and look miniature-ish when compared to them. I had thought about an Unoa, but I am now thinking and kid delf girl might be good- and far easier to get and far less painful on the wallet. Still looking though : /

13. Von Alk- Exactly opposite size-wise! *laughs* I think going for an MSD as the creation sounds like a good idea. ^^

I do like a lot of the kid delfs as well, though my MSD love really springs from Bobobie/Resinsoul. The company pictures don't do them any justice, but the wallet sighs in relief and they're really beautiful in person! (Plus Denverdoll has a ton of them coming through all the time, even in fantasy colours, which means no crazy $60-$70 dollar shipping. YEAH.)

Not even a week and the wait is already killing me. >.<

14. *eyeshifts* GET A KID DELF THEY ARE CUTE WITH JDFs.

15. FFFFFFFFF THEY REALLY ARE. <3

(I have an MSD from another company, and seeing how beautifully the two line up in that photo makes me so excited! That's the sort of height difference I was looking for, YES YES YES!)

Amet, more photos please. ;-; You're killing me here by getting me so excited for my own boy to show up, but AUGH SO PRETTY.

(Please excuse my large amount of caps, I think I had a bit too much sugar today! xD)

16. Amet, your two are adorable together. I really need to get together with my friend and take pictures of my Terra with her Aru. They look just like brothers. I don't pose my own JDFs and KDF together often since their story lines don't overlap. JDFs are cute with HDFs too. Luts is one of those companies that makes me want to buy them all. Not a normal feeling for me. I just love the majority of their sculpts.

17. Congratulations, StarsOfCasi (if I haven't said it already o.o) and Von Alk! I want to see lots of pics from both of you! :) And Unoa are thoroughly adorable, but Kid Delfs are cheaper,, and there are more to choose from. :P There have been a bunch of Unoa heads floating in the marketplace recently, though, if you feel like assembling one. In the end, it comes down to what you're most drawn to.

Whenever I order dolls (like I did this Monday; Aru is on the way! Next up, Junior Delf ^_^ ) I always do a group order with my sisters, so it turns out to be $800 or more. @_@ Even if I only spent about $350 of it myself (only $350?), it still feels hard to justify... -_-; But I have a very understanding family; they just tell me that it's my money, so I should use it for things that make me happy.

Amet: Aarghdbth SO CUTE! >.< Is that a Dreaming Cherry? You know I can never get enough of KDF/JDF spam, either. ;P

18. Box opening, everybody! : D He came waaaaaaaaayyyyy faster than anticipated! Please take a look and comment if you feel like it ^^ Wish I could decide on the name. Edwin and Dorian so far have the most support from friends... I can't decide. Any opinions?

Stars- I love all doll sizes for different reasons X3 SD and larger are great because they have a lot a presence plus this big, comforting weight about them- but smaller dolls that I've seen in person are great because of their maneuverability and their endearing size. So far, I'm not sure I have a preference, size-wise.

Awe, you've ordered from Denverdoll too? I love them! I've ordered stuff from them at least twice now- once for my all-important first doll head, after I had his poor, injured secondhand body lying around for a while. : 3 They're so nice there!

Amet- FFUUUUUUU
That's... that's flippin' adorable D: and your dolls and photography skills are wonderful! Very pretty!
Don't feel bad about butting in XD
UUgghhh I do want at least... maybe... oh god, is it two Kid delfs? I DON'T NEED THAT, BUT DO WANT. Kid delfs are evily cute.

Iris0110- I feel the same way. Most companies are lucky if they have even one or two sculpts that I would ever actively want to own, but Luts has a plethora of sculpts I find strangely compelling D: No idea why that is.

13thMuse- Although I'm busy, I'll try to take photos. It feels a little less lonely for Mycroft around here with my new JD boy, so hopefully more photos will be coming. I don't have the best camera (it's quite old at this point- clunky old 4megapixel from around 2003 or before), but I will try to remember my photo class lessons and figure out how to use it to it's full potential again.

Unoas are lovely, but I just don't know about really committing to getting one together at this stage of my life. I really don't have a lot of cash these days, and Kid Delfs just seem... so much more realistic for my wallet. Also, more seem to be available at any time. Maybe in a year or two after I pay off some student loans I will save up for a boy and a girl. They really don't seem so expensive when compared to my giant 72cm dollzone and now this JD.

Congrats on Aru! I hope they get to you soon : D What JD are you thinking of getting?
Woah, 800 is steep sounding o_o; Can you imagine dropping that on a single doll? I'd be afraid to. Yes. Only $350 XD This is how this hobby has programed us into thinking! It changes the way you look at money in weird ways. $350 is somehow on the "cheap/doable" range to us, but have you ever picked something up in a store and say to yourself "I could get a wig for this..." and put it down? I have .__.; What the heck dolls, what the heck?

BTW congrats on having a supportive family ^^; most of my family and some friends are... a little weirded out. They should be used to me being a bit odd by now. Parents are more worried about the price tag than anything (as they should be! I do't blame them). But I'm the type that generally takes up very little money- your typical absentminded artist- and I mostly spend on art supplies. Everything else, including clothes for myself is sort of... less important.

19. Iris0110, I hope to see those photos with your friend's doll soon!

Von Alk, I'm not sure how I feel at the moment either, since I only have one doll to play with. xD I do love her size, because I can fit her comfortably in one of my larger bags, and I can carry her on one arm by sitting her in my elbow with her feet in my hand and her back against my upper arm. Obviously though I'm not opposed to going a little bigger (hence the JDF), and I'm starting to think about a tiny too...
Denverdoll is an awesome place, definitely agreed. ^^ I've ordered through Featherfall too (helping a friend's mother with her first doll- a total surprise present! We knew she liked the sculpt in advance though, she was talking about getting it later on by saving... but hahahaha yay birthdays. :XD:) and they were nice as well. :)

Amet, I think we just need more photos from you in general! :D

Re: general love for Luts sculpts, I completely agree! I'm really attracted to their tiny-size dolls too, they're so adorable! (And perfect for another character of mine... augh must not spend more money on dolls this year. >.<)

13thMuse- At least in a group order like that, you get to split those crazy shipping costs! xD I always try to order smaller items with my doll friends so that we just get one big package and call it a day!

You're also lucky to have an understanding family, most definitely. My parents don't really enjoy my doll hobby, though they've noticed how happy I am playing with my one girl. As long as I spend responsibly and think things through beforehand, they don't usually mind.

Which goes back to what Von Alk said about parents- mine were definitely wearing this face when they saw the charge on my savings account: " o.o'''''' " Haha. xD I'm paying for him in his entirety and I'd premeditated the purchase for forever, so I think everything will be okay! (I also didn't get a 16th birthday party, so I figured treating myself to something fun a little later would be worth it. <3)

This doll hobby definitely has taught me that expensive purchases are worth it if you really are convinced you want it... I remember days when I used to wince at spending more than $100 in one go! xD (I still do that at the fabric store, lol... YAY COUPONS! I'm so cheap about spending outside of my few nerdy hobbies, haha.)

20. Thanks! <3 That's how they line up sitting, anyway. Standing the JDF is a bit taller. I need to get off my bum and take the lineup I've been meaning to for months with all my and my wife's LUTS dolls—we have just about every size here now and the range is interesting. /complete company loyalist

Really thank you, though. I'm always good for more photos. ;D

Thanks! Glaucus is actually Tristan's grandfather (long story) so posing together is a little funny, but they have identical snooty expressions and I couldn't resist plopping them down together. XD I'll definitely look forward to pics of your JDF and your friend's KDF together!

Thanks! He is! I have a giant soft spot for dreaming sculpts and he's my favorite KDF. He and Glaucus have very similar expressions so I had to photograph them together. XD

Haha, thanks! <3 Those two are hilarious together with those identical frowny faces. Nothing wrong with wanting a few MSDs. XD KDFs at least aren't that bad price-wise. I'm used to MNF, so when I stumbled across Tristan in the marketplace I was like "He's how much? HOW CAN I RESIST?" Plus they have that LUTS engineering that makes them fun to pose.

And so I am on topic! A lame photo of Glaucus. My backyard looks like a jungle atm.
