1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Von Alk, congrats on your boy's arrival. The insignia in his head means that he was one of the original Capt Jack Rigel limited sets I believe, they were numbered like that. I do look forward to seeing more of him in the future. These boys are so much fun.

I guess I will have to find time for NiNi to get together with his "little brother". He will like that. I had all of my friend's dolls living here for more than 6 months while she was in the process of moving and I kind of got used to just playing with them whenever I wanted to. Now I actually have to ask.

It is nice when you have a supportive family. I am almost 30 so my parents don't have any say in what I do at this stage of my life. My hubby is also a dolly person so he gets it. Even my kids have BJD's. Really compared to some of the things I've done, my parents are thrilled that I've settled on such a benign hobby, and it gets me out of the house and socializing. We have a really active dolly community here. I'm into tattoos too so price wise this is pretty comparable. It is strange when I will catch myself thinking "$200 isn't bad at all" while looking at doll prices.

    2. Did a couple shots yesterday while testing the camera. Got them up on a thread in the gallery. Mostly just playing with Mycroft, but I shot a little of the new guy too, about three photos.

It's not the best photoshoot. Still re-learning my camera.
But though a little time, photographs and searching, his name settled in at last! Dorian F. Dawkins. The F stands for Fritz. Once it clicked, it clicked- and I feel much more settled.

Amet- Bah! You tempt me further with my wanting for the KDs. Rrrggh. Poor wallet. Alas, unless I come under some great fortune, I can wait a year or so, I think. I just need to avoid that cute little elf-eared girl head that they have listed under the spare parts sort of section.

Your boy's wig is so amusing. Combined with that shirt, he reminds me of a daydreamy, dramatic, Lord Byron-like-era poet XD
It's not a lame photo! It seems pretty natural, and I do like the background. Do you have him sueded or wired by the way? I am considering hot glue sueding Dorian when I next have some time, and possibly wiring, as I am having trouble posing him. His arms in particular.

iris0110- Thanks for telling me more about the signature/carving in him! I'd remembered the numbering thing from a long time ago, but I just didn't think it would come up. I'd put it out of my mind. I'm still totally baffled that I somehow ended up with a doll that was limited in some sense. Wow ._.; I never really aim for any sort of limited thing, so it's funny that it seems to have happened by accident. I feel doubly glad I bought him off the MP then. It just feels like that's how it was supposed to be.

      Once again, I wish I had a family that was as supportive as that. As a mother, do you find the doll hobby a worthwhile one? Though I'm not a teenager anymore, I have a very hard time explaining and justifying my new hobby to my parents. I wish I could break into the doll community here a little better. Not sure if I fit in yet, or ever will. Not much luck in making doll-related friends so far ^^;

Ugh, tattoos, yes, I see why you see $200 as so reasonable XD

    3. I like how he looks disinterested in what he is being told. LOL He is such a cutie. I really could own them all. It is a good thing I limit myself based on having characters first.

As a mother I think anything we can do together as a family is great. My kids were about 2 and 6 when I started collecting dolls so they have been really immersed in everything BJD for quite a while. The value of owning one of these dolls as a child might be even greater than owning one as an adult. They get all of the benefits of creativity and enjoying something pretty. In my boys' cases they get to be involved in a hobby with hubby and I so it is a nice family thing, but I also think it helps them learn responsibility. My oldest had to save up the money for his second doll himself and that was a huge thing for him. My kids are home schooled so being able to get out in the doll community is nice socialization for them too. Of course I'm probably biased a bit about the benefits of the hobby since it is my choice of hobby. They are also pretty into anime conventions too.

Yeah tattoos get expensive. The dolls actually look kind of cheap by comparison. But when I first got into dolls it slowed progress on my tattoos. Lucky for me my tattoo artist is my friend and he gives me really good deals on the work he does.

    4. I'm just loving Dorian more and more, Von Alk! :D

Iris0110, it's really cool that you have managed to get the whole family involved. :) I tried to do that with my cosplay hobby, but it didn't go so well, haha... (Dad still likes to help when it comes to props and power tools, though. xD Maybe I should do some serious modding on a doll in the future, maybe he would come around then!) I definitely like the "saving for something worthwhile" aspect of it too, on top of being an outlet for pure creativity!

I can imagine that tattoos would be expensive, yeah... glad to hear that you get deals, though! I joke with my friends that the only needles I could handle are the ones in a sewing machine, hahaha. As artistic as they are, I'd be way too chicken to get one!

    5. I hate to double-post, but it's been quite a while, and I have excellent news!

I just received my SHIPPING NOTICE for my Nihal! :aheartbea :D

Will post a box opening when he shows up, you can count on that! :)

    6. Congratulations!!! I look forward to seeing the box opening pictures!!

    7. congrats StarsOfCASi, so happy you got your Nihal, will you do his faceup?

I took so much pictures of my milan a while ago, but I am too lazy to fix them and upload, here is one finally, i love the dramatic light lately...

    8. *swoons a little*

    9. Hahaha, me too. <3

Hoping to do the faceup sometime this weekend- finally got my MSC and gloss in the mail, whoo! Been a little preoccupied with cosplay work for my next convention (two weeks to finish two cosplays @.@), and the HP movie premier (WICKED EPIC- and then I spent time with friends and drank butterbeer! xD), but I should be able to find some time this weekend!

    10. StarsofCasi, congrats on your boy he is a cutie. I can't wait to see his face-up! OT but I do agree the HP movie was EPIC!!!!

Malvina-Milan is gorgeous. Your pictures always turn out so lovely.

    11. thank you all for liking him, I been playing with photoshop yesterday, learning new stuff and I had to share.... I sooo love him in dark colors ^^

    12. Er, hello! ..I was advised to come over here on the SDF thread, so um, here I am! I just got my boy today, actually. He's a 2010 Summer Event Head 2, on an SDF body. :3 I love him so much already, I can't resist spamming him. Here's a picture of my Charles (albeit not yet in his correct wig or eyes):

...yes, he can read your mind. But I'll make him cut it out at least until he doesn't have blue hair. XD

Oh, and ETA: A link to his box opening!

    13. Roserising, welcome to the thread! :D
Your boy is beautiful, and I really enjoyed the box opening. ^^ He seems like an interesting character, I'm such a sucker for mind-readers! xD

Malvina, Photoshop is the best, isn't it? :)

    14. StarsOfCASi: Thank you! <3 telepaths are so my thing, too, lol. I can't wait to get Charles "fully together"... we finally ordered his proper wig tonight, so cross your fingers for fast shipping from Iplehouse, lol. Because once it gets here, I'll... take more pictures than I'm already going to be taking? XDD

    15. Sounds brilliant, can't wait to see them!

I'm still dragging on doing the faceup/clothes for my boy... ergh, it's a good thing his character is so patient and cooperative...

    16. omg his stuff is heeere- Okay, so he still doesn't have clothes of his own (soon, soon!), but he has his wig and eyes, so I would like to introduce everyone to Professor Charles Xavier:

I am so thrilled with hiiiim. :3

ETA: And now I have a gallery post up for more pics! :3

    17. You should be thrilled with him, he's lovely! :D I think the new wig and eye combo is quite fitting. ^^

Okay guys, so- have any of you done your own faceups on the JDFs? I just started my boy's the other day, then realized that I didn't have any of that Windsor & Newton brush cleaner (D'oh! :doh) I've heard mixed reviews about cleaning their faces with acetone- does anyone have experience cleaning the JDF resin specifically? Thanks!

    18. I never use Windsor and Newton, perhaps because I am too nervous. I don't like the idea of using acetone unless it is absolutely necessary. Unless he already has a faceup on him and it won't come off you don't need to do much cleaning. When I prep a head to do a first face up I usually wipe them down with a magic eraser and then clean them off with plain water and give them time to dry. If I have to clean an old face up off I use plain alcohol, 97% or better and the kind without any dyes or oils in it. I have only had one face up that was so stubborn I couldn't get part of it off with the alcohol, and ironically that was the one on my JDF1 head that I purchased second hand. I don't know what he was sealed with or what they did his lips with but they weren't budging. I wound up working around his lips after I removed the rest of the face up with alcohol and elbow grease LOL. All my other dolls have been cleaned with alcohol or magic erasers only and I have had no problems.

    19. Sorry for disappearing... :doh Life got crazy again.

Congratulations, StarsOfCASi~! :fangirl: I love the box opening. He kind of does look like a buddhist monk... >_> Only temporarily. I can't wait to see the faceup! Also, I second iris0110; I don't do faceups, but I've watched my sister do them. She just does a quick scrub with a magic eraser and water to prep. Acetone is scary, because it starts to eat away at the resin if you leave it on too long; it can ruin a head. I know there are a lot of threads about it in the help section, and the faceup section probably has some as well.

Von Alk: Love the pics! Dorian F. Dawkins has a good ring to it. :)

iris0110: It's great how you make BJDs a family thing; that sounds like so much fun. :3nodding: You have a point, and dolls are traditionally given to children. It makes sense that they would benefit a lot from BJDs. My brother's just getting to the age where he'll really take care of a BJD properly; maybe I should encourage him more in saving up for one.

malvina: I like the gothic/victorian kind of atmosphere your photos have... :aheartbea The light is great, too.

roserising: Congratulations! Ooh, JDF 2; he's one of my favorites. He looks awesome! :D I like his new wig especially; it looks like it curls nicely.

A little OT, but the Aru I mentioned has now arrived. ^_^ I'll post some pics in the KDF thread and the gallery when she has her face.
