It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Just buying dolls that have the same "look"?

Feb 4, 2010

    1. I am sure that most of my dolls will have a similar look to them, but that's probably because I have a certain taste in BJDs. I prefer the more realistic ones that don't look too anime-y -for lack of better term-. Smaller, realistic eyes, etc. I'm currently contemplating selling the doll I own, my only and first, so that I can go for other dolls that better suit my style. He really is a gorgeous doll, but I feel his eyes are just too wide and unrealistic... something about his head just doesn't suit my tastes. Sure, there's a lot of dolls I find gorgeous but I am pretty sure that all the ones I decide to buy will match each other, as well as their characters. :)

    2. A few minutes ago I saw a gallery of dolls grouped together according to company. There were about 8 Dollshe dolls and 5 Volks dolls and 7 dolls from different companies. But overall the dolls (at least the SD and MSD ones) looked quite realistic instead of anime-ish. That made me want to get dolls that have the same look but it's kind of too late now. I have a DOD SD, a Souldoll MSD, an Angell studio SD that's been on layaway since last year and I've just ordered an IOS Sezz head. I'm pretty sure that when I place all of them side by side there won't be any coherence at all. So I just comfort myself with the thought that, hey, my dolls may not match each other but at least I got a good variety.

    3. I realize my kids are probably going to look alike to each and every one of each other in some way, I guess my family really will be a family, haha.

      My current two, Dante (A-S Antonine with default faceup) and Reiss (Crobidoll Yeonho with faceup by KEIICHI-x), are two totally different sculpts from two totally different companies but they wound up looking pretty darn similar, just like brothers, and I'm glad about that 'cuz they are brothers, lol. And my two future sets of twins are definitely going to look alike, haha.

      I mostly have a thing for smirky, badass and angsty-faced dolls, and I'm also really partial to the allure of punk-rock smoky eyes, so I'm willing to bet my future kids'll all be recognizable as mine, somehow, even though I'm not the one doing the faceups. XD;

    4. If I had the money I would buy one of every doll from every company but unless I win the lottery that is not going to happen. So I want dolls with different looks. I like the sweet look, the sexy look, and really like the fairy and elf dolls. I sew and having different dolls means I am not stuck doing one kind of outfit. The outfit made for that really cute doll will not work on that sexy doll.

    5. I think I have almost every size and several co's dolls I try not to get any that look a lot alike, My Bei and Bao and hopefully soon a March do look a bit alike but I actually want them to be family, and I do have a thing with vampires and elves >.< but every vampire I have is a different size and shape so al in all I don't think I really have that many that look alike and now would I want to . .I hope this makes sense. it's almost 3am and i'm still at work :(

    6. I strive to have all my dolls look similar only when they're supposed to be related by blood. If they aren't sisters/brothers, I don't think it matters to me.

    7. I am not particularly interested in similarities so close they could pass for siblings, but I do aim to have them all look like they live on the same planet.

      To go with the example from the first post, they don't need to look like Faye and Faye's twin sister/mother/aunt/second-cousin-twice-removed, but they should look like they inhabit the same world/series, with the same general physical proportions.

    8. Haha. I never thought about this. I just bought whatever dolls I really liked. =] My dolls are all part of the same story, sure they are a pretty different in scale of each other, and sculpt variances but I guess I looked past that. ^^;
      Maybe the believability comes out of the imagination performance ?

    9. If a ever get more than one doll, I'd rather aim for the similarity than... variety. But mostly because I would love to do some family type photoshoots. Also, the dolls with heavy differences in size and look sitting on one shelf just look kinda... messy and random, in my opinion. It's okay if they're kept seperate, just don't mix your Hound with Pukis :sweat

    10. I go for dolls within the same size range. I'm also drawn to realistic sculpts as opposed to stylized, so that they'd look like they fit in with each other. So far there's only one doll that I decided to buy (Angelheim Ryan) because I thought he's got similar enough features to one of my dolls (Buddydoll Teo) that they could be related (we'll see when he gets here :) ).

    11. I currently have dolls that are not alike at all, but I feel that my future dolls will all be from the same company and have the same feel to them. I really like the BBB/Resinsoul dolls, not only do they fit in my budget better, but they have a less real look to them than many other bjds. I don't want my dolls to look real, I like the anime look alot. To me, dolls are dolls, not little people and that is the fun in them, they aren't real.

    12. OK so I have no BJD's with me yet, although I just bought a LW head, but I already have about 4 that are on my wishlist that I would for sure buy in the future. Whether they match or not is not a thought that crosses my mind. I want to buy the BJD's I really love, regardless of if they will fit in or not. If I fall in love with them I have to get them, not settle for something else, otherwise I would just regret it. I know I would. It has happened before, not in the BJD hobby though. And with having to shell out so much money, I don't want to buy something just because it will fit in. I want to buy something because I love it. I just work like that. If it is not something I truly want, or if there is something I want so much more, but buy something else instead it would just not feel right. Now whether or not the bjd's I want all look similar idk. I guess a few have a similar look. My top 4 on my wishlist, and the LW head I just bought all seem to have soft features, very feminine, although 1 looks more manly (dream realm Antonio, I love his nose!), and all seem to have half closed eyes apart from AS pink Cinderella, who just looks totally cute.

    13. Some of my guys look alike, and some don't. I'm not worried about having the same style/size/anything, so long as the face suits the character. Since a lot of my characters tend to have narrow eyes, smirks, or angry scowls, some of them will resemble each other. I'm aiming for race/size correlation. MSD is my average adult size, for anyone between 5' and 5'6'', and SD's are mostly my really tall guys who are 6'2'' to 7'4''. Since I only have one really short guy, who's 4'11'', he'll end up being a shorter MSD, but still MSD. But I'm not worried about them 'matching'. I have a pair that is an MSD who's mate is an SD.

      So right now I have one DZ mini, two BBB/RS mini's, and a Doll Family mini, and they make me happy, even if WS, NS-pink, NS-yellow and a custom purple doll don't 'match' particularly well. XD

    14. I own an Iplehouse and CP dolls. I guess I like variety! I've got all sizes and looks and types...
