Keeping the Faith: When Your Dream Doll Finally Comes Home

Feb 10, 2008

    1. My dream doll for quite some time well actually just after he'd been released and i missed him was sard. I knew i'd never pay second hand prices and brought another md just to fill the space he should have. Untill the rerelease soom recently did, thought i wouldnt have a hope in hell but what was there to loose? An i got him:)So after all this time ive finally been able to get ahold of him.

    2. Mmm. I have a Dream List... I have this story in my head you see, and then I have characters from RP games gone by that I love still that I want to see in resin flesh. But right now I want my babies. ResinSoul Bei, ResinSoul Yu, and FelixDoll Small Comfort Fairy. I'm in debt up to my eyeballs at the moment, so I'm patiently waiting until I have enough change in my change jar to buy them.

I'm glad they're not limiteds, because that would break my heart if they sold out before I got to them. I still live in trepedation that they'll decide to stop making them before I can afford them.

    3. My dream doll, like probably so many others, is a Volks Suigintou. She's always been my favourite Rozen Maiden doll... Not to mention she's stinking gorgeous!

      One day...

    4. My dream doll is shared by many people. I was enchanted by her in a convention at a dollmeet i was dragged to by a friend. When i laid eyes on her i knew that i just had to get one. I knew little to nothing about dolls then so i had to idea that Beryls were limited.

Long story short, thanks to DoA i will have one soon.

    5. I'm still waiting for my Wing-2 to come home. He's my first doll and I'm basically ready for him. (Even to the point where I'm making clothing for him lol)
Well I've kept hanging on so far, and theres only 11 days left.. (Lets hope they go fast)

    6. oh - this is so me!!

volks old f-12: for some reason the first time i saw her face i fell completely in love with her. she, to me, is not the prettiest of molds, but something in her face just spoke to me. i'm sure we all know what that means. she had been discontinued for some years, and after searching several months, i only found 2 owners - who of course would not want to give theirs up. so i put a wtb thread in the marketplace, and after about a month or two of bumping i got an offer. BUT, it was not cheap. they still loved her and it was a "feeler". basically, she was worth a lot (and a lot of money) to the person. i said i would think about it, and i did. for about 6 months. it just felt like way too much money for just a head. but after searching for her within those months and finding nothing - i saw that the seller had put her up for sale in the marketplace! i got nervous, and decided to contact the seller and say i would take her - on layaway.
she will be paid for and coming home soon! i realized that you can't really put a price on love. ;)

my next two "highly not available" dream dolls are: dive seimei and soom heliot.

    7. Mine was a Skoll or a Hati...I realized way late how cute they were....and put up a WTB thread. Dr. Seiji offered me hers for what she paid and I jumped! Now he is on his way home!

    8. My dream Doll: A tan Dollzone Hong. ^_^; I'm fairly certain I will be able to afford him eventually though...

    9. I sold a lot of hot dogs to get my Breakaway. Yep.

    10. The doll I have always wanted above all others was Volks Michele. Pined and whined for years over not being able to get him due to all sorts of factors, usually involving how rare he was and how expensive he sold for second hand thanks to his rarity.

I finally stopped looking since it was just not practical for me to pay $1000+ for a head. Decided to focus on other dolls I'd always liked but never really thought about getting. I purchased the single 05 Breakaway head I had always admired. Then thanks to my super awesome friend rkold, I was able to buy another Volks that was special to me. Tachibana Shirou was the first BJD I ever saw thanks to her enabling and taking me to the Dolpahe was released at. She had gotten a great deal on a fullset Shirou but in the end he wasn't right for the character she wanted him for and to me he came.

Of course, a day after all this happens, Volks re-released Michele. With an amazing fullset outfit AND the jointed SD boy body. Insert much cursing and the selling off of bodies and dolls I wasn't as attached to, and finally, after 4 years, I managed to win Michele in the Volks lottery. He should be home in a few weeks.

Now to hunt down a Tsukasa and I will say my dream doll collection is complete.

    11. Well I wrote that a year and a half ago and in that time my want for a Woosoo has stayed strong. I've wanted him for three years now, and last week he finally arrived. It's kinda funny to finally have that doll you coveted and almost thought was out of reach, but also very awesome. :)

    12. I ordered one of my dream dolls a few days ago.

I've been waiting months for Soom's Alk and Yrie to come out, knowing they'd be little birds, and even made a pact with Tallenvayre that we would order them when they came out. So I have been scrambling for a job for ages, but still nothing, and I'm flat broke.

Well, they finally were released and I was still broke. My hubby hates my doll obsession and said there was no way he'd even help with a layaway. I was crushed.

So, I asked my mom if she could give me the $150 she was planning to give me for my birthday in advance, and she said she would full out buy Alk for me, paid in full, no layaway. Needless to say; I LOVE MY MOM! ♥

In the course of a day I went from the verge of tears to the happiest I have been since... well, a while. X3

Now I just have to wait for my little baby birdy to arrive! :)

    13. Yay! Now I can post in this thread which feels a bit surreal~ I used to hate reading this thread because I honestly thought for the longest time I would never acquire my dream doll Volks Williams. It seemed all the stories here described situations of great luck and timing. Two things I rarely have going for me~ xD To top it off, Williams is probably one of the most popular Volks boys, which just made it all the more difficult to beat people to him when he came up for sale.

I haven't lost him as much as many other people I'm sure. I remember them coming up for sale, and just dying a little inside when they'd be scooped up knowing I never stood a chance. I did have one beam of light when Volks released the new SD17 Williams on the upcoming Kobe Cruise...a SMALL/UNLIKELY shot in the dark to finally acquire a Williams~ So many people were competing for a spot on the cruise, and as luck would have it SD17 Williams has been their most expensive LE fullset to date [am I wrong?] SO, not only did I have to find someone to help me get this boy and attend the cruise, I have to gather all the funds for the boy [+$300 for my bid on commission fees] in a little less than 2 months. In my mind though, I told myself if there's even a small chance I'll take it...and if I don't get him, then I guess use my savings to try and hunt down one second hand.

WELL. I obviously didn't get the SD17 Williams. xD I was so focused that the Kobe Williams was my only shot at getting a Williams that I seemed to completely stop searching for Williams elsewhere. However, one day I was randomly going through the Marketplace threads here on DoA. My expectations are always so low to find anything worth buying after page four, and I had been keeping myself out of the MP since I was saving up all I could in case the person I was commissioning won a spot on the cruise. One night, I don't know if it was extreme boredom, or my inability to sleep [probably a combo of both] I was down to page 9 of the large doll Marketplace threads, carefully combing through each title, and saw to my surprise a FS thread for a wadda-ya-know Volks Williams. I was very sure that it was an old thread that had already been attacked with offers left and right, and this guy had slipped away like so many others. Even if he was a bald, naked, and the SD13 Williams..I have always dreamed of owning the original Williams that I fell for. Even if he was gone I decided a PM wouldn't hurt. Sent a PM [I had a good chunk of funds saved up since I was saving for the SD17 boy], and waited for a reply~ I didn't have high expectations at all. I finally got my answer a few days later and learned that no one had even sent an offer for him, he was missed by so many eyes!! The seller liked my offer and 2 months later I finally welcomed my dream doll home!!!

For once in my life...I'm super thankful I was miserably bored and unable to sleep that night! xD So now I have my story of luck, and excellent timing to add here. I hope that people reading this thread and hating it, will one day have that turn around of luck/timing to acquire their dream dolls.

    14. My dream doll was, is, and always will be Soom Chrom.
And I wanted him for my birthday, but that just didn't happen. Thinking that the resale price would be just way too high, I figured I would never have him (seeing other MDs like Sard and Heliot going for about 900). But luckily, I found him for a more reasonable price. I cried when my mother said that I could get him for Christmas. I was just beside myself. And I've never been more exstatic for any other time of year in my life ever. The feeling of opening that box on Christmas morning will be like no other; and I have to say I don't really care if there's not a single other thing under that tree.

    15. *giant sigh* The Collection Black Luke from Dream of Doll whom I will never have... (there was only one world wide) If I ever found him or a suitable doll from another company that looked close enough, it'd be willing to pay over $1000 for that boy. -_- When I first saw him, I knew he was a perfect match for one of my characters. I have other dream dolls, but he was the ultimate. I need to keep looking now I suppose...

The rest of my dream dolls are attainable with saving and some searching: DOD Camine, Luts Abadon, Leekeworld Dark Rihael and an Unoa Lusis with the wink faceplate as well.

    16. I got my dream doll as my first doll today. :) Volks MSD Toppi is the girl I always dreamed of and never thought I'd get, but here she is, in my lap right now~ :aheartbea She's lovelier than I even imagined. :o When I opened her box I was shaking and crying... :sweat

    17. My dream doll was someone else's doll I saw before getting into the hobby. I only knew about Volks at the time, so I was really upset I couldn't find it. It made me upset because it was the only mold that really made me smile ^^ I found out a bit afterwards that it was a Luts El XD

    18. My dream dolls?? :( The Black Ducan and the Crobidoll Mikhail... :...(
Both are put into my WTB thread that I will keep bumping forever and ever... :aheartbea

Boy... I need lots of LUCK!! :sweat

    19. I've enjoyed reading this thread for so long now~ :D I love all the stories!

My ultimate-super-holy-grail was SD13 Williams. I found out about him a while after getting my first doll (which was probably a good thing, or I would have been torn between them! I'm very glad it happened this way around, I love my girl very much!) ...aaaand also found out about his rather jaw-dropping price, and that was... kinda that. I guessed I'd never really get him and had to make do with looking at pictures XD

Well... I'm sure you know how it goes... I couldn't get him out of my head, and began trawling the market-place, and Y!J. Just for... you know. Interest. Which deepened :sweat Slowly I got more and more serious about it all...I made a couple of bids on Y!J, but failed rather hard. :sweat I got really into the hunt... I would scour the market here, eBay UK, eBay US, Y!J... anywhere, every day, several times a day... just in case...

Eventually, after various misses, my diligently daily-bumped WTB thread was answered! I actually couldn't believe it! I burst into tears when I got the PM, couldn't sit down for the jitters, and texted my boyfriend who came home from town right away and we danced around the flat  I remember going out for an errand on my bike and cycling down the road singing really loudly  The transaction couldn't have gone better, I was lucky to have been contacted by a lovely seller. I literally wasn't able to sit still the entire time between that first PM, and his arrival. I wasn't able to focus on work at all, haha. I would randomly get up and jump about

I admit, I was worried when I opened the box and got him out, that he would continue being "Williams", the doll whose pictures I had fallen in love with, instead of the loose character back-story and traits I wanted him to have. But I shouldn't have worried O_O; He instantly became Edward, and that was that! He is more characterful than I could have hoped for, and I adore him. He is my go-to doll. I pick him up almost without thinking... he's really cuddly =^-^=

I hope everyone can get their dream dolls one day. Never give up! Never give in! :D

    20. Unoa 'O' face DDDD<

I liked BJDs when i was younger, but I was a bit put out because all the ones I saw (DoD, etc) looked so sad. I wanted a REALLY happy doll, something with a grin on it's face. So i checked gigglegeek, and saw the Unoas there- I loved the faces, but the 'O' face just drew me in. So forget smiles, I want that climax face.
Skip to a few years later, I've discovered just how difficult getting an Unoa from new Zealand actually is. Love is over, etc, I give up.
      Yesterday, my girlfriend bought me an Unoa 'O' plate off the market ;w;
      TEARS OF JOY.
