Lee-el : 90cm Dolls

May 2, 2013

    1. I usually have my boy standing against a wall, but currently, all the standing space is taken! So he's sitting in a chair, but... then his pants come unsnapped and his butt hangs out. :doh What I wouldn't give to have a pair of jeans or pants that stay up and fit when the doll sits!

    2. I just got Livan's clothes. He looks wonderful! I am hoping that the new female is up soon! I will probably buy her and her clothes. Realized I should have bought his when I ordered Livan but didn't until after I got him. Shoes too! Hearing they do plan on offering a female was wonderful news!

"The girl doll is released soon.
Have not seen anyone with the size and proportions doll.
I hope a lot of expectations."

I am so looking forward to seeing her AND buying!

    3. I'mdefinitly going to buy one of the guys soon and hopefully they Will have released some of the girls when thathappens because of the possibility of a mecha angel saiph hybrid failed and I need a girl for him :(

    4. I know how you feel about couple's, Ebichu. I like having both male and female myself. I can hardly wait! I also hope for quite a few accessories. Mostly the shoes and that sort of thing. What I would absolutely love to see is a stand that will support them. And if wishes came true a dressform for them, male and female. I'd buy in an instant! An while I'm wishing...patterns. I'd buy every one if offered! Unlikely though, since clothes are part of sales but on my I wish list.

    5. One thing I have Done for the incoming (when I canafford to buy him) lee-el Guy is I found free human sized man clothes online and downloaded them and downsized them for him according to his measurements it Will still need som tweaking when he gets here but atleast it's a start and as of now I've only found 2 patterns for pants and 3 for jackets and I've found a dollsized male shirt pattern I made bigger for him :)

Oh and btw forwomen on the same site I found 142 patterns to be exact that I liked the problem is I've printed them for the mecha angel so now I need to do it all over again XD

Btw where did youread about the girls?

    6. In an email from Lee-el manager about my order being on it's way. Knows I want one. I was thrilled obviously!

I found a sale going on of patterns at my favorite fabric store last year. Bought quite a few. Re-scaling them takes time but worth it since none available in proper size for Mecha Angel. Now will be doing it for Livan. And the female when I get one! It's just it would be fantastic to get patterns from Lee-el. Save a lot of time! I can make dress forms but again would be time saver and less homemade if I could buy one.

    7. Why don't you ask Lee-el if they could make a set of basic adaptable patterns for them? The must have to draft patterns to make thier costumes in the first place...

    8. I think i's a good idea. I think they could get a lot of sales if they did that. But, a new company may not even consider it. I've suggested it to a couple other BJD companies and no was the basic response. Half the people who buy BJD love to sew for them. Or end up buying clothes from people who do. Company could make a bit from that market in my opinion. But so far no seems to be the response. I'm not a insider Lee-el or any other BJD company so I'm not likely to be listened to. Just a customer.

    9. Some companies put out enough of a line of cloths I can see them not wanting to take away from those sales .. but this one only has 'what I'd call' barely minimum outfitting.. All dolls should have at least one outfit that was made for it's original concept... But those tend to sell out fast and the rest of the population not getting in on the 'limited' clothing still needs something for these poor bare kids ;p Lee-el does not have a fully developed clothing line like (for example) Iplehouse. And even IH will definitely listen to customers... It's how they maintain loyalty lol. Not everything customers want is given but they try. And if you check the thread... Lee-el ppl DO pop in occasionally ^^.

    10. I know they do, lol. That's why I was told a female is coming soon. I am VERY ready to buy one!

The clothing patterns has been a "I wish" from the day I became interested in BJD. I buy very little clothing unless it's for a friend and I'm buying say eye's or something like that. A combined order. A few yes, because I do like one or two limited now and then. Not often though. Patterns would be a yes every time! So would a dress form. Right now I have to draft my own, or rescale an existing human size pattern. Do-able of course but time consuming. Many years ago a doll was put out by Tonner name of Tyler and she was a "dress designer" and had a dress form and some patterns. 16 inches all. I thought the idea was a great one......they sold tons of.....still do as far as I know. Not my size though. BIG is what I've looked for longer then most of the people here were born. Mecha Angel and now Lee-el more like what I've wanted for years. I have used half scale dress forms design classes but not the same as having a "person". Everyone here knows what I mean, lol

I know how much time is involved in developing those clothes which is one reason I do understand the no's. Doesn't change my wanting patterns though because that's why for me too!

    11. Do you have any scans you can share? It doesn't need to beproperly scaled i can do that myself :)

    12. If you mean patterns for Lee-el. I haven't done any yet. Just getting ready to do a "dress" form for him. For female dress forms I use a short cut. Bought a Uniguely You dress form cover and took half of it apart. Marked seams first because if you don't you sort of have to guess where the org. lines were. Saves time and that is what they are intended to be rather then having to find a fitting pattern and get rid of ease and other make other adjustments, plus marks them already. I use the tape you buy for draping. Scale down, cu out, and then fit. Sew (I do use zipper)and line with batting and then a lining. It's sort of "stand alone" that way. And put on a foam core, or semisolid form if can find one. I did find some that are smaller and sort of close enough to give it stability. Most craft places have them. None of them work as is though. And padding without a properly fitted cover is a waste of time.

    13. No I mean scans of human sized patterns where you just see the picture of the pattern pieces of that pattern :) it's hard for me to explain I'm swedish so XD

    14. I do know what you mean. (The scale drawings of) I've done that many times myself over the years. Works extremely well! Fast and easy.

I do historical costume so mine are originals, hand drafted. (or from books eg. Janet Arnold (scale drawings, same principal as what you do), period magazines or books, "method" type) The ones that were "mini" were from the 70's and 80's and wouldn't be what you'd call current even if I still had them. And the patterns I have I haven't scanned into my computer. Any scaling I do is by hand. Pencil and ruler not by photo copy or print out. Once or twice though, but that was of my own design and for a class I was giving.

Basically I've never gotten around to computer designing of anything. All by hand.

And patterns made for a specific doll....will fit. No twitching needed. No drafting or scaling or ten hours of this or that nit picky anything, just pin, cut and sew. Done. Lots of time saved. Plus if you do want o branch out...most of the problems are already solved.

    15. Nice! Actually I did know about diagram pieces. Scale drawings. Which is what I was talking about. Same can be done with a ruler and pencil just as fast, if not faster, then doing on computor. (you can also down size from full scale pieces as well) But will keep it in mind.

I have no doubt Ebichu was talking about doing those like demo on computer. Many years ago pattern companies did mini patterns as patterns and you needed their tape measure and all that to turn them into full scale patterns. Method patterns. Still available some of them.

    16. Someday soon I hope a girl will come....

    17. Totally hope so!

I have a suggestion for anyone who is interested in designing patterns for Lee-el or any other BJD. Block patterns, full scale but can be scaled down. Center For Pattern Design, Adult Block Patterns. Just a thought. I own most of them and do find them quite useful. For myself and for doll clothes.

I will be naming Livan Philip after my 11 greats grandfather Philip Stapleton. Decided not to name him after Philip's father Sir Robert Stapleton after all. My grandson is named Robert and he's 21 and isn't keen on having a BJD with his name even if it's not named after him. No Philips in the family so no problem. Not sure yet what I would name a female. My Vega is named Eleanor so that's taken. Do think I may name female Katherine after my 11 great grandmother Katherine Constable Stapleton. No sure though. Also plan on getting a new faceup for Philip shortly. A little too feminine looking for 1800's and other time periods.

    18. ^^ nifty about the names lol... I have a name site for you... under tools it has a name generator... it's a fun site even just to muck in even http://www.behindthename.com/ As for too feminine for the 1800's.... have you really looked at historical portraits? O_O The word Dandy did't get a lot of use then for no reason lol. I sort of collect pictures of regency-ish era men for reference on my Pinterest page... to me most of them look... fem-ish...

I'm curious... your 'Sir Robert Stapleton... how did he come by the title or is that just for the doll?... I'm still hunting up a good name for my guy... he will be a "Lord" of something... when I decide what lol. I don't even know what rank to pick lol.

    19. Sir Robert was a Knight. Battle sort of Knighthood. Born 1548. From a long line of Knights. MP (House of Commons) as well. Kind of interesting person. Ended up in the Tower for having an argument with an Arch Bishop and losing. But Queen Elizabeth I, pardoned him after a bit because his wife was a 3rd cousin of hers. As for a rank.....Vicount (Lord) on up are Peers. A Knight is considered a commoner unless he has another Title.......can have both. eg. SIR George Manners, Knt., 2nd Lord Roos. Women usually aren't Lady Katherine or whatever first ame is unless daughter of an Earl or above. The Right Honorable Miss or Mr would be appropriate for daughter or son of Vicount/Lord. They would be Lady husband's last name. Lady Stapleton sort of thing since Knight's wives are Lady's. Any Title is sort of fun to add! Pick a faorite town or some sort of personal landmark and you have what and where most title's come from.
