1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Lies you tell yourself about BJD

Apr 24, 2021

    1. "I will only ever need one." - Changed almost instantly with the announcement of pukipuki line and a friend was selling a Domayu flexi 1
"Ok, I can't have floating heads, all must have bodies." - Some heads are sleeping versions or fantasy version and 4 without any bodies.
"Ten is my limit, I have other expensive hobbies." - I have more than twenty, paying for another and dream list I want complete. Still doing other hobbies when I can.
"I will use them for art and learn to sew for them and start selling pieces." - Changed when an unknown disability took center stage causing many problems including not able to do craft like I use to and forgot a lot things.
"I can and will make simple bits of furniture." - Reason above
"I will keep the dolls I get in a certain range. Will not get a doll big than a senior Delf Luts nor any other doll smaller than 1/4." I have 1/12 to Glamour model + Hound size dolls. And even similar sized dolls need their own wardrobe because they only fit a certain shape. It makes me grateful that I never sold anything that didn't fit one doll.
"I will never get duped into buying a fake." - A former friend sold me a second hand body that was fake but claimed was 100% real. (note, this was text and never joined this site) I sent it back to them in pieces with a note saying "Goodbye"

There is probably more like prices of certain things I won't go over and other things like that. Alas my memory isn't as good as it once was.

    2. "I don't really like the look of sweet dream/closed eye sculpts or sculpts with teeth"
I have one of each on the way...

    3. Recent lies I have told myself:
      - That’s the last one I’m buying for the year.
      - I will not buy any doll that has a wait time longer than 6 months.

    4. I’m convinced that these are some of the most powerful & arcane words one can chant to make a grail, white whale or other hard to find doll magically appear…or even make a doll you never expected to re-release, re-release! Ask me how I know all of these things!

A lie I told myself that I’m now regretting was a lie: “I’ll keep count of them all, resin, vinyl, playline.’ HA! Then I got lazy about it and also accidentally lost one list I was building for the Barbies.
My dolls are kept in 2 places now (my own choice so I have some in both locations) and I’m constantly thinking one is here when it is there, there when it is here. Quite annoying and would be much easier to manage if I hadn’t been too stubborn to keep a neat & up-to-date list with an extra column for location. I’m sure paying for it now.

    5. You know what else makes the grail appear? Buying a common doll or a bargain you can’t pass up..next day the grail appears and you have to go over your budget.

    6. "This will be the last one, I promise."

    7. "it's too expensive to get into doing my own faceups" - it was definitely an investment to get into it, but the fun outweighs that!
"i'll never get a girl doll" - i have no boy dolls atm.. at least sculpted male dolls. younger me would be shocked!
"i'm never getting back into the hobby, it's too expensive and i don't enjoy them anymore." - turns out the problem here was not displaying my dolls and having dolls that couldn't pose AT ALL.

    8. „i will never buy a doll that costs over 600$“
and „i will never get a doll on layway“
*buys a doll for 1200$ on layway*
      bonus:
„i think i‘ll only collect girl dolls“
i have 2 boys and a head now waiting for a body :^)

    9. That I will not buy another doll until every doll I own has a wig, eyes, a face-up and some decent clothes/shoes.

    10. "No more than 10!" Now the next lie I'm telling myself is no more than 20.

"No SDs, they're just too big for me," I say as I glance at my 3 Feeple60s and Feeple65 while eyeing more to potentially get.

"I'm not going to have a pukifee ever again, so I should sell all my stuff with her, she's just too small." My current pukifee Jude named Briar Rose has some things to say about this.

"I'm going to have so many cool dioramas." Granted, I tried but ran out of room, especially for any SD sized ones.

"I'm going to get custom outfits for everyone." My wallet says otherwise.

"I can't get a doll unless I have a character for them." Those characters always end up changing.

"I'm happy with my current crew, I don't need any more nor do I want to sell anyone." Ahahah, yeah, about that...

There's probably more, but these are the ones I can think of right now :XD:

    11. Biggest lie I ever told myself was “I’m never ever going to sell any of these”

I’m a revolving door collector. I sell relentlessly. I can’t count all the dolls I’ve sold.

    12. me: she will have wig, face, outfit and will be prettyprettyprettypretty on my shelf.
doll: blank-in-box for months and later moves in new house.

    13. I only want to have 1... I have 3 now. I still debate whether to reduce down to 1 still, but the number tends to increase much easier than it decreases. I'm sure many here can relate :sweat

    14. "I'm only going to get MSD sized dolls." Now I have two complete 68cm, two inprog 72cm, and plans for two more...

"I'll make wigs for my dolls, rather than buy all of them." I have now ordered all my wigs as I really, really don't like making them.

"I'll only get dolls for these specific OCs." Now I have an entirely new and extended list of OCs I'm shelling, maybe I'll keep to it this time.

    15. "I won't impulse buy dolls."
      "I just don't want that many. I don't think I'll ever reach a double-digit collection."
"I feel like I have enough dolls now."

And here I stand, rubbing my chin and contemplating the house of 9 full dolls, the floating head of the 10th doll, and two pet dolls on order... three of them were definitely impulse-bought.
These days, I add "for now" to all those statements. They're not such big lies if I qualify them, right?...

"No fantasy head sculpts, and especially no fanged teeth. I don't like vampires at all!"
"I dislike open mouths, they're not allowed into my crew. All my dolls will be quiet children and keep their mouths shut."

Got myself a doll with fangs, but it's OK he's a dragon and I still don't like vampires. I've painted one doll with an open mouth and it seems to work for his personality? (Though tbh I cringe every time I look at it and half the time I want to wipe and paint his mouth shut, but well, it's who he is now...) And of course, there's that fanged one with those visible teeth but I seem to find them OK too?...

    16. My pre-BJD era: "Ha, that's ridiculous! Why would anyone want to drop a thousand bucks on a doll? I would never!"

      Now:
Receiving my re-filed tax return of $5800 CAD two weeks ago and my friend says, "I know where that money is going towards" :wiggle
Having looked at my Year One SartoriaJ purchase history just last night: $5800 CAD are you kidding me?? :doh:sweat

    17. That I will only buy one lol now I have like 8, but I'm pretty much out of the hobby. Haven't done anything in a while. Too attached to sell, however.

    18. I did end up being able to make ok-ish shoes, I just needed to try making them for bigger dolls. I still prefer to buy them though, just to have a bigger variety of styles. Know thee limits and all such.

Another lie I told myself was that I have no space for bigger dolls and will stick to 1/4....... but I obviously immediately found some when my first 1/3 arrived. I think there might even be space for 2 :abambi: Dolls are like the "dessert stomach", always space for one more

I will never buy Volks - I have 2, used to have an extra head, they have become my favourite dolls to play with and I might get more in the future.

All dolls must be able to share everything - some of them can share bits, but I realised slim mature minis are not all I enjoy at some point and own many differently proportioned dolls now. Some of them need special clothes/wigs/shoes/eyes that none of the others can use.

No props, it's waste of money (they have a guitar AND a bass).

Best posers with modern jointing only - honestly I prefer my older dolls and don't mind the single joints at all. I have made the mistake of body upgrading several times and sometimes it wasn't the best choice also :sweat

I think by now I have learned to let things go as they will a bit, it's also exciting to just try new things in the hobby!

    19. "This will be my last one,"
      "no floating heads" and
"no more dolls over 1/4 scale, they're far too big"
      have all been....very trying phrases.....

    20. "No new resin in 2025."

This was my goal for this year, since I promised my spouse I would finish the dolls I already have before adding more projects to my plate. Yeah, uh, with the holidays coming up like they are, I may end up with some new resin between holiday gift money and my own doll sales funds. Oops?
